Ok being a dire need for some relevant topics here I decided on posting something I've wanted to ask for awhile. I looked and didn't see any other topics on this (correct me if I'm wrong) but I was curious about how everyone goes about grinding a new character to the grueling level 10 haha.

Me personally I usually jump into the Quicksilver Vault chapter. I can usually level to about level 7 and accumulate roughly 1975 gold. After the second round my new character is about 4 dead chompies away from level 10. Is there a more profitable location I could be training at. Share your training tips!

I go there and Kaos Lair to get both lots of money and level up really fast. I get at least to level 4 or more each time. I also get more than 1000 gold maybe even more than 2000 but I don't keep track so.

Personally, I farm gold from Lava Lakes Railway up until before going into the area where I have to start pushing blocks to fix the railway. It nets me about 1700+ Gold per run, and it's relatively short. After four runs or so, I'm at around 6400+ Gold. For leveling, doing at least 17+ Heroic Challenges can get my Skylander from Lv.1 to Lv.6-7. From there, I'd take them through the first half of Lair of Kaos for a couple runs to hit Lv.10. That's just me. Sometimes, I'd skip the Heroic Challenges first and max out my Skylander's level then breeze through the Heroic Challenges after. Note: If you have any AoE attacks via upgrading, it's best to hold off on those UNTIL you've done Drobot's/Double Trouble's/Zap's Heroic Challenges where AoE's can be quite costly.

I never picked up the second treasure chest in this level, because I was not sure if the gems will stay. That was I earn around 500 gold in 2-3 min and level up to 10 in 45min.

I generally do a short runs through Lair of Kaos up to the split at the first triple key lock. Its normally around 900 or so gold and only takes a couple minutes. After a few Heroic Challenges (Critical and Armor) its survivable for even low level characters and can level them up at a decent pace.

I alternate between crawling catacombs and lair of kaos. Lair of Kaos is actually pretty fast for leveling if you survive it, be prepared to swap out characters. I'll have to try quicksilver vault. Thanks!

For a balance of leveling up my character and getting a decent amount of gold, I tend to do any of the levels with boss battles (Leviathan Lagoon, Stonetown, Falling Forest, etc.) since the single player boss fights earn a pretty hefty amount of XP. Crawling Catacombs is also a good balance. My record is starting at level 1 and getting up to level 6 in Falling Forest.

If I want a lot of gold, I sort of cheat by constantly moving my save file back and forth. After you beat the game, you can talk to General Robot and Auric to get a ton of gold – I think around 5,000 or 10,000. Once you talk to them, your game automatically saves, but if you copy your save file before talking to them (thumb drive, cloud, etc.), you can then get the gold, delete your save, reload from your thumb-drive/cloud/etc., and repeat. I don't do this often, but when I purchase a few new Skylanders at a time, playing the same levels over and over again can get a bit boring.

This is on PS3, by the way. I’m not really sure how the game data and save data systems work on Xbox or Wii (or PC, for the few of you out there). You want to be careful, too. It can be easy to delete your save and not retrieve it if you back it up incorrectly. If you had to backup your save due to the “Gotta buy them all” trophy bug, then you should know how to do this.

I never thought about doing heroic challenges first. I always do them last since I sometimes pick not so awesome paths for my skylanders and reset them. I don't feel like doing all the challenges (26) for allll my characters now as it is, let alone twice. smilie

This^ I leveled Hex, Double Trouble and Cynder from around lvl 5 to lvl 10 in no time at all last night doing Lava Lakes Railway. The beginning nets each character TONS of gold. Haven't thought about doing Lair of Kaos yet though, honestly my son is the one that beat the game...he couldn't wait for his old Dad to come help smilie.

So basically you go to the same places for both things except Perilous Pastures. I don't get that much money in Empire of Ice and I've tried a few times.

Crawling Catacombs. The end can be tiring, but can be good for your character. A level 1 can reach...level 4-7 if you do it. (I did it, and my Skylanders are now level 10 after few rounds. just saying.)

I've been wondering about where to post this as it didn't seem to be worthy of a new thread so I hope nobody minds that I've dug up a slightly dead thread...

I just got my new Zap from "fresh out of the box" to level 6 in 2 seconds... no kidding... although it took a little set up time it certainly wasn't longer than 2 minutes. On the last part of Lair of Kaos where the platforms bring monster after monster in I stood on the ramp, outside of the agression range of the monsters and shot them all to death with Flameslinger. As I was a fair distance from them the xp bubbles just stayed where they fell and I thought, "I wonder how much xp is there?" and that thought evolved into, "I wonder what would happen if i dropped my brand new Zap in that pool of xp?" so I switched out, ran into it and ta-dah! Instant level 6!

I haven't found a definitive answer on this, but this seems a good place to ask. If you play a level up to a certain point then exit, do you lose the coins and XP you gained in the level? (Sorry for the newbie question!) Thanks in advance for answers! And, thanks for starting the thread. I'd been wondering the same thing.

No, you don't lose the coins and xp. As this data is saved on the character and not in the game's save file... It's not a newbie question though, it's perfectly valid smilie

You MAY lose a small amount of coins and xp if you yank the figure off the portal straight after getting said xp/coinage as the game takes a moment to save this information sometimes:

Q: How do I stop losing collected items whenever I remove my Skylander Champion from the Portal?

A: Try waiting a few moments before you move your Skylander Champion from the Portal. The game does not save to your Champion constantly so removing it from the portal before a save happens may cause you to lose what you have collected.

Over a month late on this. Very sad.

On topic, I just grinded (ground?) on Lair of Kaos to get my figures completely upgraded. They were all already level 10 with all heroics done, but had to get maximum coinage, and the Lair did it for me. I made that level my bee-otch by the end of the night.

The easiest/fastest way is to use the gold glitch on the Wii version up to about 8500 gold, then hop into Kaos' Lair for two runs with your purchased upgrades. Those two runs will finish out your gold and your levels, and boom, you're done.

If you don't have a Wii version though, I'd recommend Kaos' Lair up to the split with the moving platforms. Perhaps even ride the platform to the right; four Shadow Knights and a Spell Punk in one area = tons of EXP.

Either way, I use Kaos' Lair. Quicksilver Vaults aren't without their charm, but Kaos is more straightforward and probably a little quicker once you get used to it.

Thanks for answering! And for the quote from the help archive. I'd noticed that I lose a few coins sometimes when I switch quickly, but it never bugged me that much. I just didn't want to play through a good portion of a level then need to exit and lose the time spent (yeah, I know, but a couple minutes at a time is all I get to play the game most days!).
