I know, I know, this topic is has been done to death, but I am curious, what got interested in the series?
For me, Skylanders (Especially in SSA) was very nostalgic. It reminded of me of movies I watched and even places I used to go as a kid (For example any Dreamworks Animated film and Old Town, Alexandria.) The bright colors and blue skies reminded me of playing in the yard with my Corgis and going to Old Town and walking around and feeding the ducks with my Dad. Spyro also got me interested in Skylanders, I played his Classic games as a kid and loved them. Hell, I even played the Legend series ( Which, now that I look back at the Legend series, I realize how awful they were, even though I wanted to make a movie based of the series)

It was Spyro for me, so when I saw a small Nintendo Power article about the series, it drew me in. Preordered the game as soon as it was available.

This was back when there was a Nintendo channel on the Wii and there was a weekly show giving Nintendo news. On the show they featured SSA and I thought it looked cool. I got into the fact each character was unique, and when Christmas came around, got it.

Someone gave me the PC version as a gift. I left it in my garage for about a year. Then I found it again. I played it a bit on my computer but the game crashed and wouldn't work. I sent it back to Acti in exchange for an xbox 360 copy of the game. I tried the xbox one and I had a lot of fun.

Sometime around March 2011. (that was when i first posted a topic about it on another website lol)
I was on the hype train for it after I heard Spyro would be getting a new game since Spyro has been my usernamesake for quite a few years now. After I saw the initial anger from TLoS fans making me lol and that the toys idea sounded pretty neat, I was sold on it before it was even in stores.

I remember my experience very well. First I saw that this game was gonna have Spyro and was surprised he was back. Then, sometimes when I went into the store, I saw the display and had a nice look at the amazing roster of characters they had. Some interested me and some didn't stand out to me, but boy was it a rush to see some unique, original and awesome characters that day and I still cherish that day. The ones that really made me excited were Hex, Ghost Roaster, Voodood and some others who later I got attached to.

I remember, my brother and two of my friends introduced me to it. (Before it was out, I think?) and the game looked pretty awesome!! I'd never played a Spyro game back then, and I wanted to try one out. I didn't know much about the game back then and had only really seen a few characters on a poster. I really liked Trigger Happy, and was glad he was in the starter pack. we purchased the game when it released! I really enjoy this game, and never thought I'd get so into the series. and I never really thought I would try to collect quite a few of the figures!

Spyro was the only reason I gave it a double look. I sobbed at how hideous they made him! Then my friend and I played with the in-store portal and found other characters cute (I warmed up to Spyro, she loved Trigger, I loved Sonic Boom and she loved Bash) and then we decided to get it. She got it first though and then we played it together. Then I got my own.

This is all Grandma's fault. (Grandma is my mom, my kid's grandmother) When I first saw the game, I avoided it like the plague. No way was a getting a game that was such a money pit. Then around October of 2012, Grandma bought Spyro's Adventures. I figured that would be the end of it. The kid's loved the game and I enjoyed playing it with them. The ex got them a couple extra figures and so did I. So then Christmas comes around and Giants was a natural fit. They got the game at both houses and about a dozen extra figures.
At this point we knew very little about variants or the various release dates. However, last spring we started hunting blindly. Missed quite a few variants but they loved the chance that thumpback or nonjini may be waiting for them. Made some great memories. We were semi collectors at this point. We didn't have to have them all. Till Grandma broke the seal again and got a handful of rarer variants off Amazon marketplace last October (my birthday). With that and SWAP force coming out, hunting was in full swing and we were getting everything as.it. came.out. I used Christmas to fill in the gaps of our collection and get some of the rare variants. |

An interactive Giants display at Walmart. I was walking by and seen Chill. Being a sucker for female action figures in general, I investigated this thing called Skylanders when I got home and I discovered it was a lot like my favorite video game 'Gauntlet Legends!' I couldn't resist putting female action figures directly into a game.
Of course I didn't know anything about elements and how you need all 8 to unlock the game completely. Nor about how you needed every character to unlock every mini-game in Giants nor the extra set packs to unlock other levels. I couldn't stand being that limited in my game, so I ended up buying a complete figure collection off of ebay during the summer when everyone was selling theirs off cheaply. So I'm sorta hooked but I'm cheap enough where I will wait to get a complete set cheaply off ebay. I know it's a huge gimmick and a money grab but at least I'm really enjoying it and feeling quite passionate about it. Not many games are out today that I can say this about.

For me, it was actually Disney Infinity.
Playing Disney Infinity for two months (September/October of 2013) piqued my interest in Skylanders. I really enjoy Infinity and couldn't help but consider the comparisons of the two games. As I read some articles and watched some Youtube videos, I decided that I was really interested in some of the things that made Skylanders a different game and so far (got Swap Force at Christmas), I have been very pleased. My kids and I are having a blast. My son and I have even completed a 32-character PvP league (NFL-style with 16 games for each character) and then a 12-character playoff.

At the time alot of family stuff was going on and custody of my step son so we didnt really look go much into toysrus during the ssa times. The following year was better and our son wanted giants. I was hooked after i fired it up and realized how the figures worked and the game reminded me of diablo-ish

My son asked for Giants so we bought the starter kit for his DS. I didn't pay much attention to the game when he got it other than to think it was pretty cool that the portal transports the figures into the game. He played it for a while then tossed it aside. He later decided he wanted an XBOX which I refused because we owned a PS3 and Wii which were both collecting dust at this point. We didn't have any games he could play on the PS3 so I bought a used Giants game on eBay figuring he could get some use out of the stuff we already had and it was more age appropriate than our other games. Once we had the game on PS3 I would watch him play and eventually I started playing too, it was so much fun. We bought him Swap Force for Christmas and his collection has been growing ever since. He now has all 3 games on PS3 and DS and about 60+ figures.

For me, what get me into Skylanders is first of all, the characters themselves. When I first saw the figures, which was the Skylanders Spyro's Adventure starter pack, I became intrigued by them, with Spyro being part of the pack, I found this to be awesome, but the two other characters also intrigued me a little, and due to how I usually like adventure games, well I bought that and played it.
At the moment I started playing with those two other characters though, Trigger Happy and Gill Grunt, I became really intrigued to Trigger Happy all of a sudden when I started playing as him. I definitely like the kind of character he is (appearence-wise, he's awesome and his way to be is also intriguing) and I completely started being a fan since then, he's also my favorite Skylander out of all. The first three from the first pack are my three most favorites overall. Another good thing I like from this game is the fact that it's a game which I need to interact more than usual with the figures and since I usually like to collect things I like, well, this bring it to an even better interest to me. From now on I can definitely say that I actually appreciate a lot of Skylanders (about 20, but the most intriguing to me are mostly from the first game with a few exceptions like Pop Fizz, Hot Dog and Shroomboom from Giants.) And to this day, I still enjoy the game franchise, even though I don't buy a lot of Skylanders now, I like Swap Force and have enjoyed the adventure pretty well. (I just miss Skylanders Universe a lot because I was playing a lot on it and never really had problems, probably more than the console versions at some point and have been my only game of this kind I played, just bad it got closed, took a huge peak as to how I see things now, but it's still quite enjoyable.) |

I stopped playing Spyro games after the original trilogy ended. I later gave the TLOS trilogy a go and whilest I didn't enjoy the first two games I did enjoy DOTD and decided to see what would happen to Spyro next. I was skeptical of Skylanders at first, especially when I saw Spyro's new look (something that I'll probably never bring myself to like). However I gave the first game go and enjoyed it. I don't see Skylander games as true Spyro games but I like it as it's own individual game series.

I have seen skylanders around for a couple of years but thought little of it . Last October i was grumbling about a Ratchet and Clank game , i was playing and my little brother asked if i would rather play skylanders . I said heck yeah .
My little brothers birthday is in October too and well anyone who has a birthday is king for the day in my house . He wanted some Skylander fun and so i added gas to the flames and cheered him on . Now i am more into skylanders then he is . He only cares for the dragon type skylander toys . Like most people i only wanted one extra little toy , in my case either a voodood or a boomer .......and then i wanted them all . The DS and PS3 starter packs for SSA were at a huge discount . 23 dollars for the PS3 and 10 dollars for the DS . Later i even went back and bought a 5 dollar PC starter pack for a friend. We paid the exact same price for both giants starter packs at Christmas . The giant starter packs were not on a discount except 2 boxes with glow in the dark Cynder . The Manager was very surprised , he even rechecked the prices and yelled at employees . Possibly that set was as cheap as SSA because the portal was not a wireless and glow in the dark toys look butt ugly . We also bought the portal owners DS giant pack . I would have loved a DS punch pop fizz and little brother would have liked a painted Cynder but in his wise words ... BIG WHOOP !!!!...

What is skylanders? I've forgotten all about this game. It's been so long since we have seen anything new I forgot I even had this game. Lol. A friend got me into this game from the very beginning. W went together to get it in release date buying only the figures we really wanted. Once we saw target.com sell out of whirlwind,, bc we were in no hurry to buy each figure, we knew we better keep up with figures and release dates or we would miss out. I've been hunting ever since. There has been good times and bad times. Most of the bad relates to the area I live in where people are raised to be selfish and the poor stock our stores put out after employees at every store in town but toys r us pillage all the rare/limited releases. That's why you will never see people from my area posting on here about hunting together or helping each other find things. It's just the way people are around here. They all want to be seen as the haves so they can look cool to the have nots. When I found this site tho I have made friends from all over the country and we help each other out, shipping figures one finds that the other can't etc. Without this site my collection wouldn't be what it is. Our I would have had to pay more than what I have for 2 of everything. So thanks to all of you who help with release dates and such. A very special thank you to those of you who I talk to regularly it's been fun being able to help each other out.
