Some people say it is't, and it is. I believe that it is, but I don't know what the truth is.

Well, it's hotly debated.

I kinda feel like it is. It was definitely originally intended to be a reboot of the series (as was indicated by it being more gritty, etc), but then they decided that's not how Spyro is. I'm kind of glad..I enjoyed TLoS, but I liked the original trilogy much better. If only they could have gotten Elijah Wood.

Although, Spyro kind of took a back seat with this game, and shared the spotlight with 31 other characters. But really to me, that's no different than Year of the Dragon. A lot of people who blatantly hate Skylanders were either ticked because of Spyro's design (an incredibly trite reason to hate something) or were upset because their precious Cynder wasn't involved (although after her announcement, a lot of haters seemed to do a 180)

So, yes and no. It depends on what side of the argument you fall on.

EDIT: Looks like you got 2 threads. Anyways, we talked about this a while ago.

People who say it isn't are purists that say so because it's not "their Spyro". Some Classic Spyro fans hate LoS because it's not "their Spyro". Some LoS fans hate Skylanders because it's not "their Spyro". Some of both groups hate Skylanders because it's "not Spyro".

But the bottom line is that it's a Spyro. It's not a classic Spyro game, it's not a Legend of Spyro, it's a Skylanders Spyro game. Totally different Spyro for a new generation. But still Spyro.

I believe it is part of the Spyro series, in my opinion I see the "new" Spyro as a matured Spyro, maybe older looking, after all he has been around since '98 smilie

I think LoS was a part of Spyro but Skylanders, it is a Spyro game but not the right kind of Spyro game.

This was covered in another thread. This game is great, but it does seem like Spryo was just "thrown in" for name recognition. He isn't really one of the best characters in actual game play, and (unlike other Spryo games) the story doesn't revolve around or involve him personally at all. I love Spyro and I am glad that he is in the Skylanders game, but I really don't see it as a Spyro game.

LoS is less Spyro than Skylanders is. It's more of a name recognition cash in too. Aside from Spyro and Sparx, it was a completely different universe. At least Skylanders has a few throwbacks to Classic Spyro with the sheep, Moneybags (Auric), and even his personality is more like his classic self.

I would say it isn't really a Spyro game. I'm not one of those "purists" someone mentioned (as a matter of fact, I've never played a Spyro game if Skylanders isn't considered one), but I think that from a marketing standpoint Spyro was put in as an established character to bring credibility to the game. I don't really have any evidence as to why I think that, but it just makes sense to me.

I actually was hoping that the next Skylanders game would be a different mascot's "adventure" the way this game is Spyro's Adventure. I'd love to see multiple mascots as the frontman, to be honest:

Earthworm Jim -- Tech or Life
Bonk -- Rock
Ratchet & Clank -- Tech
Stubbs the Zombie -- Undead

There's more, but that is off topic. I know this would never happen, but it doesn't stop me from dreamin'!

It feels to me like a Spyro game, even though he plays a very small role in the game. The whole "Linear level, your character has two-three attacks" thing feels very Spyro-y to me. Especially since a group of levels have a specific "theme" or element they focus on, in the same way that in the original Spyro games had Artisans = green hills, Peace Keepers = Deserts, ect.

My main issue with the LOS games is that they didn't feel like a spyro game because of his attacks. No charging, and gems to power up fire kinda ruined it for me.

Personally I don't think this is a Spyro game at all since you can play the game from start to finish without ever putting him on the portal thus never playing as Spyro. They simply used his name for brand recognition as previously stated. I love the game but I wouldn't call it a Spyro game.

Thankyou for all your feedback. Some say it is, and some say it isn't. But what I was really asking is not whether it is a game about Spyro, but a game that was made by the same people as LoS and if they entitled it to be a Spyro game specificly.

Well Michael Graham, the one now currently in charge of the Spyro series and the one who worked with Chris Wilson in developed LoS, is the Associate Producer of Skylanders. Skylanders is more of a new franchise with Spyro in it, along with a few other Spyro references like Sheep, Cynder...

In my opinion this game is more like a Spyro spinoff then a true Spyro game. First of all it is not in his universe, they even mention he came to this world as a protector after what he had done before so this game would obviously have to take place after one of the previous franchises.
