Please excuse me if this has been asked before but I could not find it.

I know that the expansion packs unlock levels in the 3DS version but what do the other items achieve in it?

After all, doesn't the 3DS version simply read two chars at level commencement and then it is simply a race against time using those? I ask because the 3DS portal shuts down after initial char selection.

Or is there something I am stupidly missing? Please feel free to whack me with the clue bat if there is.

The Adventure Pack levels in the 3DS version share the same qualities as the other levels in the game. You gather Radiance Crystals and try to complete the challenges in the levels the Adventure Pack has.

Cool, thanks, but my question was what do the other items (Healing Elixir, Ghost Swords, et al) do?

^ You use Radiance collected in the current level you're in to "Charge up" the items. The healing elixir heals your characters at the charge of radiance, the ghost swords brings up your attack which also costs radiance, and I'm not sure about the other items but I think all of them cost radiance to use. I would test them in game to see but I had to send in my faulty 3DS for Nintendo to repair so I can't play the game, sorry.

Aha, it all becomes clearer now.

So you can choose to use an item mid-way through a level, then? Or do you have to choose the item/s to use before the level commences?

^ You can use it at anytime when you're in a level, as long as you have the required radiance.

^ And if I remember correctly, you don't have to leave the item on the portal. The game reads it when you first put it on the portal and can be removed from the portal after it reads it but I think you can have only one item activated at a time. ( I hope that I'm remembering all of this correctly, I'm sorry if I'm incorrect on some of this.)

I will have to give this a try myself; never thought to use the items on the 3DS version!

Have't used any adventure packs on my console version or 3DS version yet, but on the 3DS version there are gateways already pre reserved for the adventure packs as well.

Where as in the console i'm assuming like...if you put on the pirate seas, a pirate ship arrives (just a huge guess lol) but the console it opens a gateway thats' pre reserved so the main hub island doesnt change much.
