So uh... I've run into a sudden issue here. My Trigger Happy just stopped working for no reason. I used him, he was fine. I set him aside with my little horde to use Stump Smash for a while, hit a tech area and put Trig on there and he won't read anymore. I restarted my game and tried it again.
I'd understand it if he fell or something, but he was just sitting there for two minutes. I vaguely remember reading something about a month ago where someone was having a similar issue? I know it recognizes the character because when I take it off it makes one of his giggly noises.
Just wondering if anyone has figured out what to do in this situation, if anything? I'm more annoyed since this isn't like it's a character I can just go out and buy if I really need to. =/
EDIT: Probably just going to have to contact activision if there is no solution, since in retrospect this feels like a slightly silly thing to be asking people. =S
EDITTED AGAIN: Didn't want to make a new topic for something I've sort of covered.
Does anyone know HOW Skylanders get 'broken' yet? I ask because my Wrecking Ball that I've been playing for over a week and maxed out, suddenly stopped working tonight. I went to PVP with my sister and it said he was broken. I then lost all will to play, because I was shocked (and he's my favourite to play with) and went to test him on my game.
What could possibly cause it? My sisters have had no issues yet. However, their skylanders are kept in a plastic bin, and never touch any technology until they touch the portal. I used to carry mine in on top of my laptop. Granted, my laptop was shut down, but I'm wondering if this could have damaged them in the long run? I've since stopped carrying them on my laptop since I think someone speculated that it could harm them.
I'm kind of annoyed here. My fiance called to get a replacement Trig sent, though we're still getting a 3DS sometime in the future, and with the reset on that I should be fine with future mishaps, since I don't care about having to re-level and such. My dad is getting worried that they're delicate, but I really think this is more of a 'my bad' since none of my siblings have had this problem yet. I guess it makes some sort of sense with something that runs on radio thingers to communicate with the game?
Disclaimer: I am a technologically illiterate person who's stuck in the 90's for the most part, so my speculation may or may not seem dumb. I can't even work my own TV half of the time, computers are the only thing I remotely understand anymore.

^Yeah, a lot of people have this problem (me included). The only way to fix it is to get a replacement. Did you keep the receipt? And what version do you have?

I had a broken Drobot and Sonic Boom, I just went to target and replaced them.
I don't know what to say about your Trig, but good luck.

my drobot broke from i dont know what caused it, maybe being too close to my laptop or whatever. but yes i successfully used my 3ds version to reset him, lost all his data, but had a working drobot again. so, 3ds version is awesome for that

As the others have said, you can use the 3DS version to fix broken Skylanders. When placed on the portal, the 3DS will say something along the lines of "Uh oh! This Skylander toy is broken, would you like to reset it now?" and then you can reset it there on the spot and it works again! Unfortunately, you do have to reset the character, but a new character is better than no character

Activision should release an application for PC/Mac that should be able to reset characters just the way the 3DS does. Unecessary cost for them and annoying for us having to replace "broken" characters that can be easily fixed.

That's good to know, although I've thankfully not had the problem. Guess it gives me another reason to keep my 3DS version!

the cause is a faulty save to the memory chip... what causing the interference when saving no one is sure about, but it is a glitch/bug in the portal/software that trigger it. with a game concept that involving a saving technique like this your will never be 100% safe. if this is not going to be a big problem nothing is going to be done about it, i think... so you can either ask for a replacement, buy the 3ds+game or wait for some hacker to write the application/software.... if i had a 3ds now i would have done alot of testing to see what could trigger a faulty save... keep it close to magnets, tv, laptops, have it behind walls/metal etc... even dropping it in water... only thing we know for sure will kill it is a sledge hammer, but that is obvious, lol... |

im hoping its more of an interference issue then a bad memory chip on the toy. remember these toys use RFID, radio frequency, a lot of things can cause interference with that, like metal surfaces, spinning hard drives, things that electrons flow through, but you'd think theyd have programmed in a reset into the console versions to address this problem, instead of a "contact activison."
btw broken figures still work with the web game.

when it comes to application/software for the pc there is an option, maybe it works(not legal but who cares). if you can get your hands on the compiled skylanderseditor application/software, that is. it have a option for read/write. if you have a backup of a working save from the skylanders figurine, then when it is broken you write it back.. maybe that will fix the none working skylanders.. i see no reason why it shouldn't work as long it is possible to write... i doubt activision will ever release their own standalone pc application/software to fix none working skylanders, so this is maybe the only chance if your not going to ask for a replacement or buy the 3ds+game. |

when it comes to RFID, i have no doubt it can make a few hiccups.... i guess the chip have a programmed area burnt in to it that is undeletable/unchangeable and a space for the saved data... thats why broken figures work with the web game and will work again with the game to if reset/fixed.. |

All of this speculation is interesting. I'd also heard somewhere that people are thinking that the PC's portal is also too strong and potentially harming the toys? I've also come to the realization that the PC version is a lot more glitchy than the others... my sisters got the PS3 one, and we'll get our own eventually because of my fiance's playing preferences, and it doesn't do any of the fudge ups that mine likes to. For instance, there were two areas in the troll warehouse that kept acting like I was switching characters, and has doen it three times now. It's infuriating.
We have the 3DS game, but no 3DS currently. I'm considering waiting on calling because my fiance is talking about getting one in a few weeks for other games he also wants, so I can try the reset. I've also started using the 3DS portal instead of the PC one, since the smaller size is really just more convenient. I know he'll ask me why I didn't call like I was going to, but I've a slight phobia of calling on phones. ; We don't have the reciept anymore, even though nothing in my game is tampered with. I'm pretty decided on either waiting for the 3DS or getting a replacement because of this. If we find the reciept, maybe, but eh. Thanks for the help, everyone. I just wish this had happened to na character that, y'know, came seperatly from the game. Easier to replace.

when you get a 3ds can you do a movie where you put the broken skylander on the portal and fix it, if possible, would love to see that on youtube or somewhere...

Bump for edit.
Kappa, I'll try once we do get one. It'll be a little while, but I think it's a good investment for this game.

RFID is radio frequincy. Depending on what frequincy they are using, a simple cordless phone could screw it up. A wireless router for your PC could mess it up, but I doubt that avtivision is stupid enough to choose a frequincy in that range due to selling a PC version of the portal.
However, blutooth has its own issues. I have a blutooth mouse for my laptop and it won't work right when my kids are playing skylanders on our wii. So if it really is a read/write issue to the memory location on the figure and that info has to go from console to portal to figure, RFID or Blutooth could be the issue. Wireless, convienance with a price.

yeah, i will be getting a 3ds myself one day. it was really stupid of actvision not to include that reset function in other version of skylanders... its going to cost them a lot when people ask for replacements, when the figurines are not broken... |
