A (not so) subtle reminder about how to write forum posts [CLOSED]

From the Forum Rules:

Please use English

This is an English website and very few people here will be able to understand you if you use any other languages, this rule applies only to the general use of the forums, you can of course use other languages just not all of the time.

There has been some recent debate on how to convey a message in this forum.

I will respectfully point out that correct use of the English language is by far more comprehensible than lack of grammar, badly formatted text and incorrect spelling.
After all, even a non-native English speaker can reliably use an auto-translator to obtain the gist of a message when English is correctly used. The same cannot be said for posts which do not conform to the norms of English usage.
Hey, I recognise that a component of the audience are children. I am not asking the world, simply that a degree of respect be taken when correct English is used by others. If a word or turn of phrase is not easy to comprehend, then you can always pop up dictionary.com or simply ask.
I also respect that we all leave typos now and then; nobody is perfect.
I will, however, tactfully point out that my seven year-old son can write in an intelligible manner. He has learnt that conveying his message, so that others can understand him, is important. He also knows that not proof-reading his work demonstrates that he lacks the respect of his audience to not check that he is communicating effectively.

For the record, I fixed three mistakes in this post before submitting it.

^ This, so much. Previewing your post and editing it before you actually post it doesn't hurt, just to make sure that others can understand it.

Even editing, for clarification, after the fact is not a bad thing.

You do realise that all the noobs aren't going to read this. Even though it is by far useful to the idiots, they won't read it.

1/. If it helps but a single person, it was worth it.

2/. It can at least lessen the rebuttal of "I didn't know".

Let's use are eyes a bit people thats what they are there for.

If I must mention that making duplicate posts is also against the rules some newbies (Not all of them) don't quite understand the concept of the 'edit' button. Yes I used to be one of those newbies. Not only does duplicate posting create to many pages it can cause internet traffic (As far as my crappy little laptop goes).

It's nice to see people wanting to have well-written topics on this forum. It's certainly a lot easier to read than a lot of forums where people type like their fingers are tied together!

This is put here to remind the new kids here who have this problem. The new kids likely don't go to any other sections, and this is put here to remind the kids about the rules.

Yes, my friend, you certainly do write more clearly than some native English speakers and doing so proves my point succinctly.

Hey, not all of us noobs are idiots, some of us are thinking adults.
You should embrace your fellow 'Skylanders' players as brothers and sisters.

...of course you can toss the little kids right off a cliff for all I care.

Irony;
incongruity between what is expected to be and what actually is, or a situation or result showing such incongruity

The incongruity (the thing that is unusual or out of place) being the contradiction or hypocritical nature of making a topic on correct forum posting in the Skylands section; the wrong place to post the topic.

Oh my god...
Stupid topic is stupid. If you can't understand a post, just pass over it. At any rate topics expleaining how to write posts won't fix a thing; I'd bet all if not most users here already know how to write properly, they just don't out of lazyness. If they're too lazy to write well on thier own they're too lazy to read this or actually make an effort to try harder. Also, what if some of these people are kust kids who honestly don't know any better? If that is the case, don't you think calling them idiots and the like is a little harsh?

As the OP, I never called anyone an idiot. If I can prompt just one poster to think about their posts a tiny bit more, then that is a good thing.

I have 4 kids; a large component of my life it reminding them about things that they already know to reinforce it. Another part is teaching them new things to become better people.

In the end, if I am completely ignored, all I did was waste my time. The topic heading was clear so those who did not want to read it would not read it and if they did, I did not force their hand.
