A TV show could work, in the right hands of course.
Because of what it is based on, it could come across like a 30 minute commercial for the game. Preferably, we would get a very good quality show that goes beyond just trying to sell the product, like Transformers Animated or My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

@rocketbeast: exactly, but theres not many tv people who aim for quality, only quantity

Unfortunately so. As long as the show didn't descend into incredibly immature or excessively crude humor, I would watch it.
Don't be like Marvel Superhero Squad, is what I'm intending.

Yes, it could be really awful, like "The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog."

Or it could be awesome, like "Sonic The Hedgehog" SatAM version.

personally, i think tv and video games should STAY seperate. movies are a completely other thing though.

I guess there isn't much faith in transferring video games to TV, as we haven't really seen a stellar example of one so much. Same with movies though. The best one I have seen was Prince of Persia, and even then, it wasn't that great.

A Skylanders movie could work though, just need a good team to put it together.

a good team, exactly! if the people who made avatar or something (maybe not the best example) did it, it might be good?

Haha if James Cameron and the whole crew behind Avatar made a Skylanders movie, it would be pretty freakin' amazing smilie
Or are you referring to Avatar: the Last Airbender? In that case, that would be an amazing TV show!

So, if I had to choose, my dream teams for making Skylanders into a movie would be Dreamworks (they've been doing an excellent job in recent memory), and for a show, I would have to say distribute with Nickelodeon and use the people behind Avatar: TLA, or Transformers Animated.

no, i mean the blue avatar people XP

ah yes, dreamworks too! they did so nicely with how to train your dragon <3 i don't think i would leave it to pixar or anything. i agree with putting it on nick, but their animated shows are all animated the same :/

Haha well, just imagine how pretty Skylands would be with the tech that made the planet of Pandora! *drool*

I actually rewatched How To Train Your Dragon and I feel that it had a similar vibe to Skylanders. Maybe it was the somewhat similar setting, and the dragons, but I felt the music really matched too. Might be just me, but oh well!

That is true. Hm, Cartoon Network would be pretty good too I think, they definitely have more variety in animation and show style.

You guys fo realise that the plot for the game was written by Alek Sokolow and Joel Cohen who both worked on Pixar's original Toy Story movie, right?

yes i know that, i've only heard that from my damn tv about seven times TODAY, what does that have to do with anything? animation quality and writing quality are completely different things.

It is logical to expect that Disney/Pixar may get first option to produce tv or film media for the franchise.

that's not logic, thats a guess you based on one small detail of the entire group of people who worked on the game.

#18 Posted: 08:33:13 18/12/2011
And besides, the two writers main claim to fame was writing for Toy Story, not any other Disney/Pixar film. These guys are in no way affilated with Disney or Pixar in any respect besides writing for Toy Story. As well, everything they have written for after that are all very much the direct-to-video quality, like Daddy Day Camp and the CG Garfield films that never went to theaters.

Off-topic, did you guys know Joss Whedon has writing credit for Toy Story?

I don't really want a tv show, but I would like to see more clips like the animated commercial.
In the LOS trilogy there were so many clips - if you watch the cutscenes of all three games you feel like watching a movie.
In my opinion they should make some more scenes for Skylanders too.

I made posts about some potential episodes, on a topic I made here, about how this franchise has huge potential in other mediums.

I am a screenwriter, so it was very easy to get my creative juices going, in creating an episode title, sypnosis, and plot for a couple of episodes of a Skylander' TV show.

It would have a continuity to it. Some episodes would deal with an overall arc. However, some episodes would be one-offs that just deal with fleshing out origins, or team-ups to take on tons of invading trolls and other baddies.

EDIT: Rocketbeast, Joss Whedon also had writing credit for Armageddon. I didn't know that until I watched it for the first time in years.

I really like the ideas you presented in that topic, GameMaster, and that is exactly the type of formula I would like if this franchise started a TV show.
One big thing I would like to see is that not all of the Skylanders are friendly with each other. For example, Stump Smash may have issues with Boomer just because he is a Troll, or Chop-Chop and Igniter may have a swordsmen rivalry. Just seeing characters try and work out differences, or create larger issues, would be excellent to me.

Oh man, that is nifty. Might explain some of the more interesting moments between the characters in their group dynamics.

Also some of the undead critters may not get along with the life element ones.

For example, Cynder and Stealth Elf wouldn't get along at all.

There could an episode where they have to team up and burty the hatchet or they are doomed.

I never thought of those two conflicting, but that would be a pretty awesome dynamic.

Another interesting thought is the dynamic between Cynder and Hex. Throw Spyro in there too, and you could have a few episodes based around Malefor smilie

Yes, no matter what you other stick-in-the-muds say. TV shows don't ALWAYS ruin things.

And who says who doesn't get along? And who says it would be bad if they didn't? There could be some good comedy, and some hate-love-relationships.If you give it a chance, then maybe oyu'll like it.

That's my 2 cents, and don't even try to change my mind.

I would watch one, but I would want it to be more like the cut-scenes in the game where it just shows the Skylanders interacting and using portals of their own accord, and not necessarily put any emphasis on the "they've been frozen and transported to your world" thing.

It would be cool to have a skylanders tv show and I agree that not all the skylanders should be friends. For example, Hex is often annoyed by Trigger Happy's uncontrollable nature and Stealth Elf and Spyro have a very fiery rivalry type thing.

Full agreeance on this. If there were a show, I would prefer if they left out the whole "toys in another world" idea.

When you'll get older, you'll do younger things. It's often how it works.

When you are young, you want to grow up and you start to think that this or that is too young for you.
When you grow up, you regret these young days and you are mature enough to admit that these kids cartoons were awesome and you feel no shame to listen to them now.

It's a good show with plenty of talent backing it up, and at the end of the day, the show makes me smile. Regardless, you're entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine.

Oh, and gender doesn't really matter with MLP anymore. Most of the fans are between 19 and 30 and I believe the majority of them are male.

But anywho, Nick or CN would be better places for the show. CN in my opinion would be best.
