I was wondering with the huge success of Skylanders do you think Activision & Toys for Bob might go in a different direction with their technology??? They do publish Spiderman and X-men games now... a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance would work good with the portal and toy idea?

Personally I hope they stick with Skylanders but you never know right? (Look they are standing on a portal right now! haha)

I was talking to some people at Gamestop about this.

Now that Activision knows they have something on their hands with this tech, they will surely have Toys for Bob develop more games from their previous properties or new IP's (fine with it as long as they don't overshadow Skylanders and its sequels).

I gave an example of a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which almost plays like Skylanders. Toys for Bob could make Marvel figures.

I would dread to think what they would do with Call of Duty and this tech. Buy a sniper, medic, etc. (blah).

Don't think they will use Call of Duty for this but..... Marvel, Transformers....I could see working really good!
Bring back Mechwarrior I would buy that game and figures!!!

Really would just like them to stick with Skylanders tho.

Well, I could see any of the comic book titles for skylanders style games to go from, also the fact they have already established markets of figures and toys. This could help in the distribution that has aggravated so many with the current game.

The one group of games that I think could be amazing to see licensed using this technology is sports games. With it one could have a figure that holds their team and playbook, so they could take it to compete with friends or even in tournaments easily. They could also have a location or stadium figure that could be customized as to where the game is played. In doing this you would not only have those if figures contain an unlock perhaps, but there would be many out there just wanting the figures of their favorite players or team. The downside of this particular idea is that it would most likely cater to an older audience, so they might be a little more hesitant to spend as much on themselves as they would for their children. It could be considered though the major amount that is spent on sports merchandise every year.

Another game that would seem to be very easy to adapt to this tech, would of course be the pokemon titles, although Activision would be hesitant to license to a competing game.

I would love to see a Pokémon title with such technology, but as Stigar said, it's not a likelihood (although maybe Nintendo could develop something similar?). It's a great technology and I would love to see such things being used more.

while I support the pokemon idea, I'd also dread it... I would sink so much money into that if the games were good. smilie

Pokemon with this tech? Hell no!

If most Pokemon games have 150 in their regional pokedex, that's 150 toys.

Well, I wouldn't mean a main Pokémon game, per se, and probably not something exactly the same. It would have to be a cheaper resource than the toys! Maybe a programmable Pokéball or something?

One step at a time.....

And I'd personally rather not have a Pokemon game that has a toy function similar to Skylanders.

I can see Activision and other companies toying with this technology, but Pokemon most likely won't.

Far as I know, Pokemon originates in a land (Japan) where technology's very advanced. Game Freak probably won't be enticed by the sort of technology Skylanders uses. Besides, compared to Skylanders, they kind of have lots of merchandise and their own store to boot, and making lots of money. I doubt Pokemon will have THAT much of a change.

Pokemon has something remotely similar in Japanese arcades: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdL2x9q9SYI

It would be awesome if they had Kaiyodo resurrect/make a new figure game, but I don't think Nintendo will jump onto a physical DLC video game anytime soon. Not with an existing IP, anyway.
