The Great Skylanders Boycott of 2015 - The Struggle Is Real! [CLOSED]

Day 1:
It's been 24 hours since I officially signed onto the boycott of buying Skylanders toys until new toys are released... but really, it's been longer than that. I haven't bought a new toy since Nitro Head Rush and Legendary Bushwhack. I'm literally shaking, it's been so long. My bank account has all these extra digits in it that I don't know what to do with. Should I be worried? I haven't seen the friendly faces at Toys R Us in so long. Will they even recognize me? Will they even still be alive? It's been so long.

Any day now, Activision will cave. Or, at least, that's what I tell myself... when I'm lying awake at night, staring at my ceiling, feeling this emptiness inside me grow. Any day now.

I stopped into a Walmart today to buy some toilet paper. I walked by electronics. I knew I shouldn't, but I couldn't stop myself. "It's a waste of time." I told myself. "Be strong." But the call was too strong - like a vacuum, pulling me in.

I saw them. Calling me over. "Come, look! We miss you!"

I stood there, with a Glow in The Dark Sonic Boom that had been encased in a cocoon of packaging tape, holding it tightly to the cardboard backing. "Just one won't hurt. No one would know." I could buy it. It's been so long. I could add her to my collection. Sure, I already have one... but I don't have this rare mummified variant.

I was able to pull myself away. It took all I had, but I did it. Kaos cried "PRESS THE TRAP BUTTON!". I ran, screaming, "Nooooo!". I abandoned my shopping cart full of toilet paper. I pushed it to the side. It may have ran over a little kid. I'm not sure if the screams were his or my own.

Stand stong, fellow Portal Masters. Any day now. Any day.

Back in January when I was browing Miiverse (the Wii U's social network), this one kid made a post addressed to Activision saying that he was starting a "Short Cut Rebellion" where he got all his friends (about 3) and actually believed that if he pushed hard enough they would release short cut the very next day. The only posts he made were basically "WHAT DO WE WANT SHORT CUT, WHEN DO WE WANT HIM NOW, I know you're reading this Activision!" Once or twice I tried to tell him early on that they probably are still producing/shipping him and they have millions of fans, but he pressed on and I didn't want to make him sad by commenting with more facts after that smilie

so they too can be sitting at the dock for the strike to be over with?
All this does is empty your pockets faster but in reality you would get them around the same time.

IT annoys me SO MUCH that you look at dejected tatty GITD Sonic Booms on a shelf and don't buy them when they have, to the best of my knowledge NEVER been available at all in England.
Count yourself lucky.

My "Boycott" is not self imposed. It's retailer imposed. I will buy the first new figure I see that I don't have. I have been looking since the launch date and STILL not found anything.

None of the stores that used to have shelves of figures have anything other than some Giants remnants left.
Even Amazon only had overpriced scalper crap, $72 for a Midnight Museum pack!!! About the same for a Kaos Trap.
And that is on Amazon. Even the online retailers have completely let me down.

Trap Team figure availability is a complete disaster and has pretty much killed my enjoyment of the game.

While I understand your frustration, please note that GITD Fright Rider was never available in the US, so we're relatively even there. If you want one and don't have one, it sounds like you're in the same boat as those of us in the US want/wanted Fright Rider. You'll either need to see if you can cut a deal with someone local or shell out on eBay/Amazon/etc.

I'd buy you one, but a quick check on eBay shows 'em shipped for less than I can buy one at retail. Sure, they're open - but the ones left on the shelf aren't much better.

Your Walmart STILL has Enchanted Hoot Loops?! Geez, I thought they would have been cleared out by now... the Walmart I used to go to back when SF was new had lots of Hoot Loop for a while, but at least they got rid of all of them...

How can you boycott buying when there isn't anything to buy? smilie With that said, there have been reports of new shipments (even the element expansion packs) and even I saw Kaos traps at Best Buy, the other day. So expect more shipments, soon. I'm sure it's taking a while to get through the distribution process after the dock strike was over, especially with the backlog of not only Skylander inventory, but all the other inventory that needed to be unloaded.

Is it the lack of sleep, or the speaker in the portal? I tried to eat earlier. I went to the cabinet and saw a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch... what's this? Skylanders in my CTC? Coupons? They're trying to bait me. Attack me at my weakest, when I'm hungry. Nice try, Activision, but it won't work. I won't give in that easily. I can skip this meal. It'll be hard, but dinner is in a few hours, so I think I can survive on the lunch I ate a few hours ago. If I don't make it, know this Activision - my death is on your hands.

The voices are getting louder. I went to the doctor and explained the problem. He says there's nothing he can do. If modern medicine can't solve the Skylanders shortage, who can? Thanks, Obama. I knew your Health Care "Reform" was a complete joke.

At home, I try to take the kind advice posted in this thread and play with the figures I already have. I place my Gnarly Tree Rex onto the portal, and with a flash of light, he appears on the screen. something-something-bark. I don't know - it's all mumbled. The flash of the "Elemental Power Increased" is missing and that's all I can focus on. It's such a rush to see that, and I haven't in so long. Why, Activision? Have I displeased you? Why must you tortue me so? I can't understand why they don't answer my emails. My Facebook messages. The tweets. The phone calls. The UPS'd box of Barbie heads. Why won't you just release new toys for me?

Turning the game off, I place Gnarly back onto his pedestal. He's glaring at me. I can't tell if he's laughing at my pain or grimacing in his own, lacking new friends to go on adventures with. Is he mocking me, or is he my kin-in-abandonment?

Any day now, Activision will surrender and there will be shelves overflowing with a wealth of new Skylanders. I may not live to see that day, fellow Portal Masters, but know that my sacrifice will not be in vain. I protest not just for me, but for all of you who want your Bunny Traps and your Short Cuts. When you finally hold one in your hands, do not shed a tear for my loss - nay, shed a tear in the joy of your newfound comrade. It's not about living forever, it's about creating a legacy that lives on - and my sacrafice for you, fellow Portal Masters, is how I will live on!

You are an inspiration to all of us UncleBob. Be sure that if you have to give your life for the cause in the next few days or weeks, we will all gather and make a bigger movement this summer to force Activision to release Skylanders 5 and its new toys months before their planned release. After all, the vast majority of Skylanders fans across the world are registered on these forums and visit them daily. There is no way they won't learn about everything you have done, everyone will support the cause and Activision will listen to us smilie

Activision, nor the retailers, are at fault. It's because of the West coast port strikes that are the cause. The employees want better pay, benefits & job security. It's a long and hazardous job to lift all of that cargo off ships day and night.
But because of the strike, some are anchored by the ports, while some went to the East coast by way of the Panama Canal, or to Mexico and Canada.
They'll be here.
It's not like it's the end of the world.
They are just low priority. All food products are usually handled first in case they are perishable. Those have a shelf life. If not handled immediately, all that food gets disposed if it passes a certain time period.

best... stories...ever. Made my day. But in truth i hope they come out this month. I got a $10 off coupon from gamestop that expires this month. I was hoping to use it on wave 4. If not ill just buy something else, cant pass up a free figure.

In here it's more because some people just won't get jokes(sometimes people that make the jokes as well), overuse memes,or do it to have an easy way out of being rude to someone. Really not worth it when a lot of people are too young to get sarcasm,too.

Right now it's basically the same thing as boycotting Square Enix for not localizing the growing pile of Dragon Quest games. Nothing to buy anyway.

It is amazing to watch so many people COMPLETELY. MISS. THE. POINT.

Ill explain using small words:

The "boycott" is saying that you won't buy anything new until something new comes out, and it is by people that already have everything already out. Therefore it isn't as much a boycott as it is "I can't buy something new because there isn't anything new to buy". The point of a real boycott is that it harms the company by losing sales, but in this case there are no sales to lose.

But, by all means people, please keep getting mad about this thread. It was meant to be funny and all these people being unintentionally funny by arguing or demanding the thread be closed just makes it better.

The Port Strike is over though, so shipments should start going out now, little by little.

Excuse me Mr Port Strike expert. It's your 2nd post in this thread and you keep spouting out port strike info as if it is fact, so please tell us what you know. Which figures were held up because of the port strikes? Wave 3? Wave 4??? And how come during these port strikes, stores were unnecessarily flooded with Love Potion Pop Fizz figures? Did they get a special shipping freighter along with Legendary Bushwack and Nitro Head Rush? What about Nintendo Amiibos? People seem to blaming port strikes for their shortage as well. Or do you in fact know nothing about what was held up because of the port strikes and you just want your voice heard??? Please...I implore you...share what info you have and cite your sources.

Pretty much. Not my topic, but it is pretty funny and compared to the value of a great deal of other threads and seriousness of people that get mad over the slightest thing I think not a bad thing.

If a release schedule that isn't much different than the previous three years has someone so mad they are spitting nails and ready to stop playing a game they say they love then they are lacking perspective. Maybe they need to lighten up and see the absurdity of their own comments in parody.

Thanks for the laugh guys. Bob's post was funny enough. Seeing people taking it so seriously was even more so. For the overly literal amongst us: if something sounds too absurd to be real, it's probably meant to be funny.

Which figures were held up because of the port strikes? Wave 3? Wave 4??? And how come during these port strikes, stores were unnecessarily flooded with Love Potion Pop Fizz figures? Did they get a special shipping freighter along with Legendary Bushwack and Nitro Head Rush? What about Nintendo Amiibos? People seem to blaming port strikes for their shortage as well. Or do you in fact know nothing about what was held up because of the port strikes and you just want your voice heard??? Please...I implore you...share what info you have and cite your sources.


Relax. Insane wasn't saying much that wasn't stated in articles readily available on the net. I haven't heard anything regarding perishables going first, but that's entirely probably in my opinion. As for why these variants made it to stores, it's not too hard to theorize. Obviously, products would come off the boat to a near by warehouse, then transported to a regional warehouse, then to the stores themselves. It is entirely possible that the variants were sitting in warehouses since before the strike started. It seems logical that the variants and originals are manufactured around the same time, since they share the same mold. In other words, it's entirely reasonable to surmise that products that are delayed to market is due to port strikes while other products get released on time despite port strikes.

At home, I try to take the kind advice posted in this thread and play with the figures I already have. I place my Gnarly Tree Rex onto the portal, and with a flash of light, he appears on the screen. something-something-bark. I don't know - it's all mumbled. The flash of the "Elemental Power Increased" is missing and that's all I can focus on. It's such a rush to see that, and I haven't in so long. Why, Activision? Have I displeased you? Why must you tortue me so? I can't understand why they don't answer my emails. My Facebook messages. The tweets. The phone calls. The UPS'd box of Barbie heads. Why won't you just release new toys for me?

Turning the game off, I place Gnarly back onto his pedestal. He's glaring at me. I can't tell if he's laughing at my pain or grimacing in his own, lacking new friends to go on adventures with. Is he mocking me, or is he my kin-in-abandonment?

Any day now, Activision will surrender and there will be shelves overflowing with a wealth of new Skylanders. I may not live to see that day, fellow Portal Masters, but know that my sacrifice will not be in vain. I protest not just for me, but for all of you who want your Bunny Traps and your Short Cuts. When you finally hold one in your hands, do not shed a tear for my loss - nay, shed a tear in the joy of your newfound comrade. It's not about living forever, it's about creating a legacy that lives on - and my sacrafice for you, fellow Portal Masters, is how I will live on!


My 19 lightcore skylanders held a midnight vigil so we could pray some new stock could come in soon. Although the room looked very vibrant and colorful, my prayers were not answered. Fade to black....

Funny read. I managed to pre-order Thunderbolt, Shortcut, Spotlight, Blackout, Rocky Roll and Echo from Amazon.de last week.

Just got e-mail that they've shipped, will arrive on Tuesday. If you're willing to spend a few extra bucks per figure, importing is not such a bad choice.

I think Activision has acknowledged this war guys... me and all 2 of my (totally not imaginary) friends went to another (totally real) Walmart and started yelling to release wave 4 because we KNOW that they have some undercover Activision spies in there... as we were yelling, this one Walmart worker LOOKED at us, then tackled us and said "Wave 4 is over-rated! I hate Short Cut" He's totally an Activision SPY, guys!!! We're in the middle of a war here! What if Activision is actually part of the U.S government trying to stop Skylanders from being released! I'm sure it's one of the president's top priorities! (Back to reality, quick question: Is Blackout still set for release on the 22nd?)

The total came out to $92, but I opted for the quicker shipping (2 business days). It would have been $84 had I opted for the standard 5-10 business days, but I wanted to make sure I got tracking (and to get everything a week sooner).

I just did the math, and if I had bought these at Toys R Us prices, without a sale going on, I would have paid around $84. So in the end I paid about a $15 premium over if I had found them in-store at let's say Target or Walmart or $8 more than if I had found them at Toys R Us.
