Grinade: (I'm going to put him on a trap, so he's not quite done yet)

Do traps work if you put them directly on the portal?

Like undeadmaster...sorry but no....its do to the size of the RFID chip in the Traps the field radius is small...so it has to in the Trap holder...because theres a another coil in there ...how the two RIFD chips(the one on the portal and the one in the Trap holder)are told apart in the game.

No...there in the middle...there right behind the element symbol. ....That little black thing you see in there.

^ not in the sculpt at the top of the crystal it self under the element symbol it looks like a mini trap just clarifying what I ment

I've seen the whole thread and these are my favorite. How did Jin make these? They're incredible. The effects on some of the figures remind me of japanese trading figures. Where did you get the materials for the effects and the clear stand for Spyro? I really want to make some like this, but I'd love some advice on what "attack/scenery effects" to buy and tools to use.

Jin is a master at this kinda of thing...he has been doing it for some time. Anyways ...a lot of the stuff he makes himself. The poseable joints he cuts off other figures...G.I. Joe's, Star Wars, Star Trek...ect. and glues them on the arms an legs of the Skylanders arms an legs he cuts off...then repaints them(matching the paint of the figure) In short, he molds an scupts...and...its A LOT OF WORK! ....lol. But the man is very good.

Also, don't say i didn't worn you...he's been doing this a long time...theres A LOT to read on his page.

Oh ...that clear shaft holding Spryo up is just a acrlic rod....you can get them at most hobby shops.
Course knowing Jin...it could be a part from a model cars tree...(you know the tree things holding the windshield an head lights...ect.)

SWAP <> FORCE

LOL, my 10 year old was bored with extra figures, and made these! So I posted them at his request, hope it's cool!

Oh yeah, I remember during SSA people swapping Hex's skull for assorted hilarious things or replacing heads and weapons. I could see that working for a few similarily colored Skylanders(put Whirlwind's head on Blades for an armored fake Series something?), but it's too drastic of a custom for my taste :U

If you two got the mind out of the gutter it wouldn't be.
But it'd have worked better for the original plan of 3 swappable areas(head,torso,legs) instead of 2. Swap Force's character design is already a lazy mess, imagine trying to mix that with their female character builds which are all exactly the same plus acessories.

i did this to my Riot Shield Shredder and Outlaw Brawl and Chain Trap with a bottle of my wife's nail polish she doesn't wear anymore.
i practiced on the water tiki first, as i will be getting a second one after christmas, and it cleans off completely with nail polish remover.
i need to clean up the Water Logholder up a bit, i was a bit hasty and got a few spots in unwanted spots.
i figured legendary had gold accents, so the variants should have silver.

At GameStop I saw a Boomer Wham Shell and Boomer so I bought the voodood, boomer was kinda pricey because he was in a double pack with trig. So I painted that Voodood and now I'm painting lots of series2

I'm still working on all the spikes and things...it's pretty hard since the enamel smells so bad for me xD

should have painted his horn blue....

because of his back,eyes,mouth...

It's their custom, not yours...

it goes with the winter white and blue theme.

Actually so does green :3 It's a figure based off of cool colors :3 Like I said he's not even finished yet.

Enamel!?! ...your using enamels!! ....NOT recommended. Enamels have tendencies not to dry fully on this type of pvc plastic. Best to use acrylics only..yeah yeah they dry faster hence you have a shorter painting time line, but the good thing is they don't have that bad smell.

Also like mega spyro said CountMoneyBone, telling her she should have done this to it an that is not right...it is her's not yours...you want it done that way... paint your own...offering pointers is one thing...say'in it should have been done is another. And she is right...green is part of the winter scheme...ahhh..trees?

And OnionCakes your Wintered Camo is coming along real nice...well done. I like the detail your putting in his back an tail leaves.

Yeah we're learning xD I've seen some people use the enamel before and I LOVE how it looks dried. It does suck at drying but I've been very very patient and letting it dry completely for a few days before going back to it.

Normally I use acrylics, water color pencils and pastels but I wanted to try something new :3 I want to see how the pastels do on this enamel. It's really hard when it dries so i think using a little bit of matte finish will make a good surface for me to use them on.

My boyfriend has a small studio so when I'm painting he's painting and the fumes jsut add up xD I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't freezing here and we could open all the windows! xD

SkyScratch- That looks so cool! Concept works surprisingly well, and I love all the stripes and spots and how you did the colours.

So i had two Series 2 Double Trouble's for some time now so I did an experiment and it's cool!

These are all very nice. I only have an extra sonic boom, i don't have any extras of my other skylanders. Maybe someday i can make one of them custom but right now my parents arn't gonna buy me all sorts of special paint and stuff for this, and I'm scared I'll mess up on sonic boom.

Very impressed with these though, great work guys!

It really kinda sucks that we probably won't see any ghost roaster customs here. I didn't see the first posts so idk if someone made some but since ghost roaster is so rare now i dont think ppl have extras that they can customize.

I have 2 more work in progress customs right now, a lightcore drobot and a blades, they are taking a while due to a lot of small detail but I'll be up working on them all night while waiting to go to TRU for wave 3, so hoping to get them both done.

Really interested to see how they turn out. I love drobot and blade's designs, so I'll keep a close eye on this thread (not like i haven't been keeping a close eye here anyways) I really liked your custom Whirlwind, so I'm sure these will turn out good too.

Guess I'll just stare at other customs for the next few years before i can finally make my own. Gonna be expensive, since I want the correct materials and i want at least one non custom version of that skylander to keep, so i'd have to get 2. I have a few others posted on here if you go a few pages back. I get most of my paints from hobby stores, each bottle is about $2. I have about 20 different colors and pick them up as I need them.
For me making customs adds a uniqueness to my collection, knowing no one else has one that looks exactly like my customs. That and its a fun hobby.

Yeah, it's nice to have different looking skylanders. Plus i play with the figures (yeah ik seems kinda wierd but it just brings out the inner kid in me. lol i am careful) so customs could really add to my storyline there.

I plan to get some cheap used swap force characters, i really missed out on a lot of those characters, plus i can probably pick up some extras of a character for my first customs. Gonna try to find a good art store nearby, i plan to do chores for money around the neighborhood (for neighbors i know) so i can get this stuff. This way i can collect more skylanders and maybe get some for customs. Pretty sure I might find a lot of used wash buckler for some reason, since hes from the starter pack i think there are ppl out there that grow sick of him.

Then i'd have to get my parents to let me paint the characters, will they still work after you paint them? Like on game, i know the colors wont show up but will painting damage the base? Since if i'm getting extras might as well use them to choose another path like i did with my spare sonic boom, and having a custom i would have to remember the custom has this path and the original has the other ya know? Just wondering, i might not even use my custom in game.

I'm also scared the figures will turn out bad when im done painting them there's a lot of stuff preventing me from making customs anytime soon.
