Id have to say both games are good but if you like sandbox type games get infinity and if you like hack and slash dungeon crawlers get skylanders it"s that simple.

I have this discussion a lot at TRU.
It's not even close Spyro > DI for right now. Important to note, they are not the same at all I really don't feel like there was any 'cloning' in Disney's case. I'm also saying this as someone who has pretty much everything for both games/series. 1. Comparisons have to be fair - I compare series not games, so DI is going against three games. This also means that Spyro's is more matured at this point. They have established not only their styling, but the characters and figures have been able to grow over 3 generations. 2. I feel the content creation in DI needs help...it's not goal oriented enough...you can't to my knowledge at least make a 'beatable' game. 3. DI wastes it's licenses. So many blown opportunities, and then poorly handled interactions. Phineus and Ferb should have a playset. Limited access for a character you bought, I can't even bring Jack into Monsters when he has friggin scare attacks. The end result are WAY too many money grab characters who are only playable in toy box. You can jaw all you want about variants, they are at least usable for the whole game. 4. There is nothing random in Spyros, yet everything is random in DI, sometimes that is OK, but the entire methodology to keep playing and buying is 'random'. 5. Plus one to DI for being patch able, I still don't understand why Activision doesn't get off its lazy butt and make all chases actual in game variants. 6. And actual storyline fun? DI is an endless loop of the same missions, but a pseudo sandbox. Spyros is pretty much a beat'em up...linear. Spyros should have evolved a bit more in a sandbox direction at this point and DI just needs to ferment another game to truely become what it should be. So right now it is no question which is a better series, I was ready to sell all my DI stuff, but then I realized, this is the first one, they can do expansions new games etc using things like Star Wars or even better, they could do a Marvel Comics edition using various Marvel characters. DI has way more potential, it just needs more time and better direction. -Unreall |

I have to say Skylanders rocks and Infinity is so boring my kids just walked away from it. SG is great with all the extra's than the first Skylanders, we played the SG for a couple of months now and my whole family has reset the slots and are playing again also my kids haven't played SSF yet because that is their xmas present with lots of figures. (Dark Force Version)
Might buy DI when it goes on special for half price maybe not, it was very slow just walking around the kids just didn't enjoy it at all. All 3 of my children and I think Skylanders Rocks....

Are you suggesting that Swapforce would be a better game if the bonus missions were locked to characters, rather than free to everyone? Because that's the main difference between the bouns missions and the heroic challanges. I guess it would give the impression of "value" to the toy, but Skylanders don't need to, as the reward for buying a new Skylander character is the ability to play as that character, with a new collection of attacks and upgrades. That reward isn't there for Infinity, as the charcters all play the same (other then the Incredibles) and there are no upgrades. Side note about blaming pokemon.... they weren't using that as an excuse, they were identifiying the reasons it might not have sold as well as Giants.... which is something they are obliged to do on a shareholder call. The same process is followed in any public company. On the bright side for Skylanders, it seems to be selling more toys - which seems to suggest that more people are buying Infinity and then giving up on it. It's also worth noting that the next-gen versions of SSF aren't even out yet in some regions, and I imagine that's a bit of an issue too. |

Well one thing I have to tip the hat to DI for is that they announced that the figures would be forward AND BACKWARD compatible. So figures from DI2 forward will be playable in DI 1 via a software update. I think that is a cool move on their part.
I know that it's a small sample size but my kids stopped playing DI when SSF came out, but now that we have finished the game they have gone back to DI. Their DI excitement came back with the new Frozen and Wreck it Ralph characters because they unlocked some new toys for the toy box. I personally like the story mode WAY better on SSF but DI does seem to have legs to keep my kids interested for a longer period of time, so I definitely see value there. I'm REALLY interested in what direction they'll go for DI2, I hope they abandon the initial constraint of only allowing characters from a given theme in a given playset. The dynamic nature of the first game is cool, I especially like that there are now a ton of pre-built worlds to download. Like I've said before competition is always a good thing, it makes the developers push the envelope to make their game more appealing than the others.

Cool and all, but if they continue with the tool box only access and not the play sets that's not really saying much. The lack of portability in the play sets and the sheer task oriented nature of the play sets has to be resolved if they want to really improve on their concept. Their strict IP lawyer garbage is going to get in their own way I'm afraid.

That is cool – but it’s also outside of DI1, which makes comparing SSF to DI a little unfair. For the sake of the argument, that REALLY is a great feature and I wish Skylanders would do the same. Having said that, I also respect that Activision wants every kid to have a consistent experience on any given platform, regardless of their access of the internet. That means that less technical families are having the same experience, therefor you don’t get a situation where a kid from family A can use future Skylanders, which makes less tech-savvy family B think they can use that figure, only to find out that the new Skylanders are incompatible with their unpatched version of the game. So I understand the reasons, but I still really wish they'd follow DI's lead on that. If we are going to compare whole franchises, then I’m pretty happy that I can use my toys in Battleground, Lost Islands and Cloud Patrol. Now that the trio of mobile games are on Android too, now almost everyone can grab the mobile game and get that extra value from the toys. (And it’s worth noting that Lost Islands is free-to-play, and if you have a toys you have a big leg-up) |

I also think it's cool that you can use them in battle grounds and the other mobile games, but in my opinion you aren't really "using" your particular toy. It just unlocks the character that you could otherwise buy in the game by saving gems/whatever. If they want to take the whole franchise to the next level, you should be able to take the "exact" character into the mobile games and have what happens there affect the character in a way that would come back to the console game. Like learn a move/upgrade that you could only get on for example BattleGround. Those types of experiences would increase the bond to YOUR own character, but it would make someone probably less likely to buy the next series X version of it. However I believe increasing the bond to someone's each individual character would be better for the longevity of the line instead of their new trend of attempting to make your previous game toys look sub-par by continuing to churn out a fancy "new" version of it. The flushing of HCs and their buffs in SSF was a step in the wrong direction for the longevity of the franchise in my opinion. I hope both franchise make it a priority to increase the "value" of each toy.

Considering how Disney "obsessed" I am, Infinity I thought was going to be IT! for me.
BUT, it doesn't compare to Skylanders. Skylanders is better to me. No contest. Infinity is ok, but it just doesn't compare and feels very unfinished....very lifeless. It doesn't come close to the fun of a game like Skylanders or Kingdom Hearts if sticking within Disney. If they would have made Disney Infinity like a a video game version of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, THAT would have been an AMAZING game. Use figures or DLC to get characters to join forces and battle the villains. Thats what I was hoping for. |

I like the levels, missions, and story better in Skylanders. I could give a bleep about the missions in Infinity so far. However the toy box rocks. Eagerly awaiting a PC version to make some levels. Since I have the kids permissions mucked up they can't download any toy boxes... I'll have to fix that soon.

No, I am not suggesting it would be a better game with locked bonus missions. My point is, if you were the head of Activision or some other game company and did the same thing, you would in fact lock the bonus missions when developing the game if it gets you a lot more money (unless you're already a millionaire). That's what both companies are trying to do, vacuum your wallet; who doesn't want to make money so they can live the high life? Don't know even one person like that. And in my eyes, Skylanders is probably selling slightly better only because of the recent Black Friday sales and Christmas coming up rather than people giving up on Infinity. A lot of things start to sell better because of these, not just Skylanders. Skylanders still remains the No#1 franchise to kids, but its sales still aren't speeding up quickly enough to match its predecessors. Yes because of DI, Pokémon XY, PS4, and Xbox One; but not only because of that. I think the real reason for the dipping sales is because of Wallet Fatigue and being Overpriced by itself. Some parents have already bought so many Skylanders for their kids that their wallets are being pulled into hell, and as such they cannot afford such priceyness anymore and officially quit. When the first 2 Skylanders games were out, there weren't other toys to life games competing with them at the moment and it was easier to make sales since parents buy as many figures, it was too new to have spent that much money (unless every single figure was bought). Now they keep making more and more toys and keep increasing the prices (they used to be $7.99, now they cost $2 more) that other companies are starting to do the same thing like DI, Pokémon Rumble, and Angry Birds; not to mention they're only making it worse with reposed figures. Maybe I would like Skylanders better if there were more content in the game than they gave it (especially the Story Mode length), but other than that they're focusing far too much on the toys and the game feels soooo rushed and incomplete. Both games could've potential, but neither of them came even close to reaching it at the maximum level.

I'm not sure how people with kids can survive without internet. My kid no longer receives books, and has to download/print their homework from the school's Wiki page. I'm now wondering where all of the money from the "fund our school" campaigns went...I'm guessing employee Retirement programs.

Actually, although I lack a beard in my neck region, I was one of these "whiners", as you so eloquently put it. Yes, I do have the Internet, but what Microsoft failed to take into account is how reliable the Internet is for people. I'm in an area of my country where there are people who still can only access Internet through dial-up, a concept that some members of this forum might not even be familiar with. My Internet isn't 100% as it is, and I can have outages. I don't live near a telephone exchange or in an area that grants me fast, stable Internet. So why should I go without playing my games just because my Internet is down? Surely my Internet being down would be the perfect excuse to play video games? THAT is why a lot of people complained, myself included. |

I think they both have there strengths and weaknesses.
Disney Infinity can be a lot if fun but each character needs a bigger move set I believe, half of the characters second move is a shoulder bump :/ I love the figures and they all are pretty easy to find. I do wish you could use any character in any level though, I hate getting a new character and only being able to use it in the Toy Box. The power discs are fun to collect in my opinion but I wish they did more, as well as having the item discs save in the game so you don't have to keep putting it on to use it. The Incredibles levels were super fun and they all had a pretty wide array attacks. The cars drive a bit slow in my opinion, I would've liked it more like Mario Kart Speed I wish every character had a world but that would kind of be like make 15 separate games. It's different from skylanders as a game because it's a completely different gameplay. Building and creating as well as semi open world-ish task completing (not always fighting). The last thing is it would be cool my sister and I could play without the WiiU game pad but you have to have it as first player. It is a very good game but making each character feel a little more different than the others would make it so much better Skylanders as we all know is awesome, there are a lot of things that could make it better but it's a really solid gaming/collecting experience. The characters all feel significantly different from the last and it's great to try them all out. My biggest wish list is for the ability to skip the screen with the catchphrase every time you put on a new character (probably a necessary loading screen) but it kind of takes away from the moment when your beating on Kaos. Also a run button would be cool as well as being able to attack in the air. That's all I can think of now but like I said both great games and figures just good in their own way.
