Here's the Joystiq article and I'm not sure what's more questionable: The writer's reading comprehension or his journalistic integrity. He either failed to grasp what he read from the TRU press release or he's sensationalizing it purely to churn page views.

For reference here's the TRU press release and relevant quote concerning Dino-Rang:

Quote:
Following are additional Skylanders SWAP Force toys that will be available only at Toys“R”Us stores and online at Toysrus.com later this fall:

Legendary Night Shift from Activision Publishing, Inc.

For Portal Masters looking to add to their assortment of Skylanders SWAP Force figurines, this Toys“R”Us exclusive is a Legendary version of the new character soon to be famous for his massive uppercut and fighting spirit. The undefeated phantom-weight champion of Skylands, Night Shift stays true to his motto to “Roll with the Punches.” This boxer is well-equipped to help the Skylanders protect their world, no matter the challenge, making him a must-have character for Portal Masters determined to prevail against evil. No batteries required. Ages 6 years and up.

Legendary Zoo Lou from Activision Publishing, Inc.
This Legendary version of the new Zoo Lou character is every bit as in tune with nature as the original, but with even more enhanced powers. A descendant from a long line of shamans, Zoo Lou traveled the Skylands far and wide to become a master in the art of communicating with nature and summoning animals. Known for his catchphrase, “Nature Calls!” and single-handedly freeing his lands, Zoo Lou’s caught the eye of Master Eon who brought him to the Skylanders. No batteries required. Ages 6 years and up.

Dino-Rang (Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure) from Activision Publishing, Inc.

This popular character from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure returns as an exclusive Toys“R”Us SWAP Force Skylander who, despite his calm and cool demeanor, is back to protect Skylands. No matter the battle, Dino-Rang has what it takes to win, whether it’s using his earthen boomerangs to attack his opponents or summoning pillars of earth in the form of fists to blast away his foes. No batteries required. Ages 6 years and up.

Edit: Don't know why I quoted you as well, Dahvoo. I'm obviously distraught over the quality of that article. smilie

I guess they thought he sold the best out of the 8 "forgotten" characters.

You don't see very many Dino-Rang fans around here.

Pure speculation. I saw something about there being 20 series 2 and series 3 Skylanders for Swap Force. We have seen 16 confirmed. What if four of the forgotten 8 (probably Dino Rang, Ghost Roaster, Boomer, Sunburn, or Voodood) become store exclusives for Swap Force. The Toys R Us press release says that Dino Rang is a Swap Force exclusive making it seem like it will not be the series 1 from Spyro's Adventure. They are already usable in the game, so Activision could easily make them into true store exclusives. I guess we will have to wait and see.

But it also says that it is "Dino-Rang (Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure) from Activision Publishing, Inc." Why would the say the bold part if it was a new figure?

I understand that release as saying that ONLY Toys R Us will be getting S1 Dino Rang shipped to them to restock the shelves. Weird choice to start putting an SSA figure out again...

I know my nephews love him, ever since I got mine one of them always complains I took mine down the "wrong" path, LOL! (This nephew is addicted to the Stonefist Traps, his Dino Rang is on the path that gives him 4 traps while mine only gets 2).

The figure is or will be in Japan soon. So my guess is since it's being already made, why not move some over to TRu if they want to flant it as a figure they only ahve that if you missed 2 yrs ago come and get him there and while there Buy more stuff smilie

I expect this is to clear massive overstocks of Dino-rang left over from the failed free toy in the SUN newspaper.

It was a TRU offer, collect 5 paper coupons and get Dino-rang or Hex for free from TRU.
When I went in they had HUNDREDS of them. Normally with these offers they are sold out in minutes but in this case it didn't seem anybody had gone in for one apart from me!

If they stocked craploads of these in TRU for one offer and didn't clear them, of course they are trying to shift them any way they can.

They probably had overstock from manufacturing for their Japan run as well. If the price is SSA-ized (7.99 or cheaper) and they have new backing on it I'll buy one just for collection purposes. I'm thinking Activision has a bunch of mindless collectors out there.

Saw him and when they tried to ring him up it showed that they couldn't sell him until Sunday 11-17-13

Does appear the exact same as the old one except for the sticker which I can only assume is to separate him from the other SSA figures (oh and he's $10.99).

Hmm...I saw this ad today. It's set for Nov 17th-23rd. What's funny is that the fig in the picture on page 10 has jade-colored boomerangs (vs the gold ones in the original) and a slightly darker armor. If he's just the same fig, then they seem to have pulled some sort of fraud. Or at least, that's how it looks to me. Either that, or whoever buys for them goofed BIG TIME!

Just returned from Toys R Us in Concord Mills, NC. The store had half a dozen Dino-Rangs on the shelves. I took one up to the check-out/register to see what happened. The computer/scanner locked-out the purchase and told the clerk that the item could not be purchased until Sunday, 11/17. Another employee was standing nearby, and he briefly explained the lock-out/street-date, then cursed another employee (apparently the one who mistakenly put the Dino-Rangs on the shelves), then went and pulled the Dino-Rangs off the shelves.

No way for me to know if this will happen at all Toys R Us locations or not. But that's what happened to me. In other words, it's probably best to just wait until Sunday and don't bother jumping the gun on this promotion/re-release. If you can't help yourself, don't be surprised if the store blocks your attempt to purchase Dino-Rang before Sunday. Just an FYI/PSA.

That figures. But you know, considering all the different varients, and the fact that people count on a different figure when they see something is not the same as what they already have, that advertisement could be construed as "false advertising". Lawsuits spring from such discrepencies.

I don't for the life of me understand why anyone would want an SSA Dino-rang (that isn't a varient), unless they don't already have him. I thought we all did. Did I miss something?

He is one of the "lost guys", the five that haven't been heard of since the first game. Dinorang is an odd choice, but more likely because of leftover stock than a reprinting. Boomer and Ghost Roaster would generate far more excitement, maybe they will be in the cards soon.
TheLurk Blue Sparx Gems: 533
#40 Posted: 17:43:33 15/11/2013
Hmm....Now I see! But it would've still been better to just bring him back as 2nd gen instead. Or bring back Boomer. Haven't they been paying attention to this forum? So why wouldn't they know most are calling for Boomer?? I wonder if somewhere, in some remote store, all the Boomers are sitting on a shelf gathering dust...

If they bring back Ghost Roaster, they have to repackage him, unless they just rerelease the Darklight Crypt. They could reduce the price, but I doubt they would, since they have the old SSA adventure/triple packs for $25 here.

Got to my TRU a bit early today for the Disney Infinity exclusive disc released today. I planned to wait in my car until they opened as lines don't really form unless Skylanders are released the same day. There was one person in the lot as I pulled up and as soon as he parked he got out of his car to wait in line. It was 30 minutes before store opening (which isn't bad since I've waited in line much earlier in that for wave releases). Soon as he gets out it starts raining. LOL.

I'm going to assume he's hoping for a silver Dinorang unless he REALLY wants the regular version or the DI Tron Sky disc. >.<
