i'm giving up on variants. they're actually really hard to find. seeing everybody getting them on this site is uncomfortable. i'm not jealous but there lucky. i look continuously through stores in one of the world's biggest city's, and still nothing. and giants is about over, i wonder what will be swap-force's variants. maybe i can find something over time. and no... i'm not spending $120.00 on a toy with my hard worked for money from my dad who give's me about $20 on one day of the week. well, a big city probably has lots of people too. good luck hunting i guess?

I know that feeling very well. While I would love to have a chase variant, I know it may never be as I am not paying that much for 1 figure.

I too fell like giving up, I have 3 in my collection (Found Stone Zook in Walmart, bought GITD WB for $40, and bought Bronze hot dog for $70. Will not spend that much in the future for chase figures.

I fell your pain brother. I to have had the same problem...i to have as yet to find a variant in the stores around here. Also one on here having so many of said variants is quit disturbing.

Chase variants i feel ya, I too live in a populated area (sub of NYC) and have yet to see a single chase variant and i look almost daily at random stores, only by ebay do I know ppl are finding them around here as I have seen a few listings with towns close to me. As for regular variants (molten/jade etc), those have been fairly easy to find as long as i jumped on them the first week they came out. Gnarly atm seems to be the only one still staying around.

I guess that's why they are called chase variants. You chase after them. Doesn't mean you'll catch them.

They should be called "Needle In A Hay Stack Variant".

So that's basically GITD Cynder, GITD Sonic Boom, GITD Fright Rider, Gold Flameslinger (S2), Red Drill Sergeant, Green Gill Grunt, and Blue Bash.

Clear Stealth Elf was a pure luck find in ToysRUs. To this day, I'm amazed that I found her, especially considering her value ($250!)

Rock Zook was luck at Walmart. They had 2, but one was bought by a guy who took EVERYTHING. Didn't see any Triples with him.

Rock Whirlwind 3-pack was another lucky find at ToysRUs. I saw about 3 total, one single, one triple.

My Luck-O-Tron has run out, though.

Got a sealed Gold Drill Sergeant for $30, Gold S1 Flameslinger and Chop Chop for $20 each, Glitter Sprocket triple pack (Only released in UK) for a Ninjini and a S1 Flocked Stump Smash, and a few Swap Force figures for various prices.

I haven't ever seen a single variant. Not once.

I gave up as well. I've never seen one, and I've got around 10 stores close by that would sell them. Walmart, Target, TRU, Gamestops. Nothing.

If I ever see one, I'll get it, but chasing them, no go.

GameStop NEVER gets variants. The shipping company removes them from boxes and they sell them/bundle them with other lame figures.

So, you didn't specify WHAT TYPE of variant. Activision clearly has three types of variants.

• In game variants of characters and are relatively easy to find--if you are there when they are released
  
• Toy variants with no in-game change that are part of a store exclusive (sometimes as part of starter pack or to a store as a single)--easy to find on release, although some are exclusive to a non-local region that forces eBay.
  
• Difficult to find "chase" variants (clears, glitters, snow flocked etc) that were produced in limited quantity. Your odds at winning Powerball might be better than finding these in store. These are tailored to collectors with pocketbooks.
  

So, there's a way to enjoy variants in this game---just not certain kinds. After seeing the frustration and money expended on the last variant type has helped me to a much less stressful alternative---ignore they exist.

Your Swap Force figures are in no way a good deal. You're paying over MSRP for loose figures that will be common in just over a months time. The only Skylanders you should ever pay more than MSRP for are variants or old figures that are no longer being produced and that's only if you enjoy collecting them. Paying a premium to get something that will be out in a short time is silly, not to mention you can't even use them until the game comes out anyways.

I even asked him how much he wanted for a Flocked Prism Break; he wanted $90 for a damaged one, which is a very nasty move.

That's a really good idea, and yes, (duh) they're really hard to find ... they're purposefully produced in low quantities, in order to drive demand. It's a brilliantly simple marketing ploy, and it works.

I'm with you ... spending multiple hundreds of dollars on one Skylander is absurd, when one could purchase dozens of "regular" Skylanders for that sum of money.

And even though you see them on eBay for $200+, it doesn't mean they sell. Normal selling price for a mint one is $90, people just bid without looking at the picture sometimes.

White Flocked skylanders are among the cheapest of the Giants variants lot. Come back when you have ten of each of the blurples

While it may have been bad form for Matteo to PM you about buying a Skylander, Judas, that really isn't against the rules of the forum. What is against the rules is advertising and/or soliciting in the forum or signatures (which appear in the forum).

If I wanted to randomly select a DarkSpyro user and send him/her a PM asking if s/he has any Skylanders for sale, I don't believe that's a violation. However, if I create a "WTB" thread for a certain Skylander, that is definitely not allowed.

THAT many of the same rare figure, asking THAT much for one (esp. a damaged one) makes him a scalper, and we don't like scalpers. Scalping in other forms is even illegal. It is perfectly reasonable to tell off a scalper.

I've also pointed out to him in another thread that his pictures are too small to bother posting them, that they're basically useless at this size, and suggesting he change settings so that his pictures end up a proper size, and his attitude to my attempt to help fully fits in with the "I don't care what anybody thinks" attitude typical of scalpers.

It is NOT COOL to tell off anyone. Adhering to the forum policies...perfectly legit. Let's get some common sense around here guys, and keep the community from looking like an angry frothing mad mob. I personally expected more from most of those who have posted their disdain.

Personally, I like his collection. I wouldn't buy at the prices he's selling...but that's his problem, not mine.

I wouldn't blame anyone for selling rare figures for a profit. It's the company's decision to release these rare figures. I believe the idea behind them is that they help build excitement for collectors, not that an average person will ever get one or should even want one. Once you've gone to the dark side of trying to get every variant in existence, you better have some serious cash in your bank account!

I got a fraction of that when I was being given my highest amount of money from my folks.
