Where did this idea that RFID tags cost much of crap to make?

Y'all realize that they're working to put RFID chips into pre-paid phone cards that you THROW AWAY? The bottle neck isn't the cost of the RFID chip, it's the cost (and lack of support in phones) of the RFID reader.

RFID tags cost less than five cents each. It costs more for the battery in a small toy with a light-up LED.

I don't know if Sidekicks will or won't be in Happy Meals - but it won't be the cost of raw materials that keep them out.

Mabye power ups? Like Winged Boots.

If McDonalds puts Skylanders in Happy Meals, I still won't eat there or allow my kids to eat that garbage.

If the kids insist on getting a Skylander that's inside a Happy Meal, I'll go into the McDonalds, order the Happy Meal, take out the toy, give it to the kids, then walk directly to the restroom and deposit the hamburger and fries in the toilet ... because that's where that crap belongs! (And no, I will not flush it)

You guys do realize you can just buy the toys right? I've done it for the Sanrio watches that they had awhile ago.

My guess would be plastic toys or Megablocks

Considering the cost would be cheaper to put the RFID chip in than the battery on most of their toys there is no reason it can't be an active toy.

What we need to consider is the playoff here of Greed Vs Desperation.

What is more important to Activision right now? Their need to sell the toys for huge markup or the need to revive interest in Skylanders as a product.

Just giving away an Active figure, even if its just an item or sidekick seems like a bad idea cost wise, but actually it would drive interest in the game from people who had never considered it before.
Kids who had never played would suddenly have a figure that they know would DO stuff in the game and it would peak their interest in playing it.

I personally believe that the right thing to do would be active figures and that it would drive sales of the game.
However, it wouldn't surprise me if marketing people at Activision decided that was not on and did some cheap plastic figure only or mega bloks tie-in.

So, I have no doubt that Active toy is the way to go for everybody, consumer and Activision. I also have little doubt that due to short sighted greed they will not be active toys. Instead of ending up as prized figures in people's collections they will mostly end in the bin at McDonalds.

A fixed pose toy with RFID chip would be one of the cheapest toys they have ever offered!
The battery, articulation or custom music chip they normally use cost way more.

It's not about the cost of the product, that would be low.

It's about whether Activision WANT to give an active toy with McDonalds or not.
None of us (unless somebody here works for McDs or Activision) can answer that. Just rest assured it will not be cost that stops them being active.

That said, if it IS active this will be the first time I have gone on a mission to get every single happy meal toy (twice, 2 kids).
So McDonalds and Activision could do very well out of it with Active.
Passive plastic figure or Mega bloks thing? I won't worry my head over it.

I've always pictured them as plastic toys, so personally that's what I'm hoping for. I'm going to get crazy excited if they have a Spyro and Cynder figure, they better not just include just the Giants in this one.

Spyro, Jet Vac, and Gill Grunt will shoot missiles.
Drobots wings will flap by pushing the button.
Crusher will swing his hammer (or eyes light up).

As for chop chop and Kaos... No idea. Perhaps Kaos will talk and chop chop will just be a hunk of plastic with an incorrect shield.

Just my guesses to what they will do.

Chop Chop looks like his... umm.. mask holes... might light up.

Chop Chop wins the aesthetic department for me.

If any of them have sound those will be the best ones.

I mean, seriously, if Kaos is all like "It is IIIII...KAAAOOOOOSSS"...LOL...That will be a great toy.

"Be afraid of the Bark" would be epic as well.

It's a Happy Meal toy. A cheap thrill for the 15 minutes you have a burger with your kid. Of course it wasn't going to be some epic thing you normally pay 10 bucks or more for. But it's still cool. I'll pick up a happy meal or two to see my kid's face light up because of one of these. Successful marketing working as intended.

This is pretty much the worst case scenario.

Not active in any way, but still pretending to be Skylanders figures.

I hope they all make sounds, as said above, hearing "KaoooooosSSS!" in his voice would make it worth picking up.

So, since the link is to the US web site (and when I click on it, I can only still see the Hex Bugs/Croods toys) I'm assuming these toys will be out in the US after the Croods toys? I mean, we all know what happens when you assUme but...

I don't think they all look terrible. Drobot is one of my fave toys, I'll definitely get him. And Jet Vac, too...

The toys are revealed now, there's a link in the other Mcdonalds topic. They're just plastic toys, no in game function, and most of them look terrible. However one of them does look pretty cool and it's none other then CHAOS!!!!!!

Honestly they look good for Happy Meal toys. It's amazing how much better the toys are these days than the craptastic ones I got as a kid.

This reminds me of the Bionicle fanbase when the 2006 Toa Inika and Piraka toylines were coming to McDonalds. All of the fans were wanting a rerelease of the 2001 "McToran"s, even though they ended up being, true to form, cheap plastic toys that vaguely resemble the original product.

Ignitor is meh, along with Jet Vac, and Crusher.

They failed with Chop Chop's shield, but he looks good.

Tree Rex is so-so.

As said before, GIMMICKY.
