Sure, Spyro may be ugly. Sure Ember and Flame aren't in it. But just be grateful that it's a Spyro game, Spyro still exists, there are many awesome new characters (I'm looking at you, Drobot) and this game isn't as horrendously bad as Spyro ETD!!!

In all honesty, the GAME portion of Skylanders isn't anything special. It's downright dull. The appeal factor lies solely in the toys. Take that out and you have a verryy straight forward, 2hr game without a solid story or main character development.
The main character is perpetually known as "skylander". It's titled "Spyro's adventure" but spyro was no where to be found... Sure he has a figure, and you can use it to play....but i never did. I used every character BUT him. The game isn't challenging in the least. Yes, I know this game is for 10yr olds. But so is Pokemon. And Pokemon has some seriously tough challenges in that game if you're not careful. Skylanders has nothing challenging. Even Kaos was a breeze. Really drawn out, but easy. There aren't any REAL boss fights in the game. "Real" is a bit of a lucid word, but you know what I'm referring to when i say "real boss fights" Overall, the game sucks. It keeps selling because the constant plugging they do with the toys and characters. The characters have back stories!! The guide book touches on all 32, let's incorporate that into the game! I play the game because I have a thing for collecting figurines and video games. Skylanders brings the 2 together with very well made collectables that are still going to look good on my shelf after the game dies out. |

The stone golem seemed like a boss. He was very easy but still seemed like a boss in the conventional status. I dont think the game is bad it was good in fact. The only thing that bothered me was the glitches, lightning rod heroic challenge, level up achievement, the missing three star from dragond peak, and the enemy goals. It just never ended.

The stone Golem was kinda fun. A bit too easy, but THAT'S the kind of boss fight I would like to see more in skylanders. Which is why I'm looking forward to the Difficulty settings in Giants. Im starting out on Hard.
The accolades for completeness kept me occupied after the game, so I'm moderately grateful for that. And I honestly have attempted taking all 37 figures and completing all 32 challenges on EVERY figure. But....some characters can't pass every challenge. Which makes me sad. |

Forlork summed it up quite nicely i.e. the actual Skylanders are nice figurines, but the game isn't that great and isn't that challenging, but I wouldn't have said that the game sucked. Without the figures it wouldn't have been good at all no, but the figures and their unique powers make the game fun, and makes you want the next skylander so you can try that one out. They are all very nice figures-I like pretty much all of the figures bar Lightning Rod. If you play PVP, it has a lot of replay value as well.
More of a storyline and more levels would be better, and it can be quite expensive, but the Skylanders themselves make the game pretty damn good. It wouldn't have sold nearly as much if it wasn't a good game.

This topic is about constructive criticism for the game, so I don't see why you're telling me to GTFO. Primarily, the game needed to be longer, as simple as that. It does have 22 levels but each level was quite short and could be completed quickly. The whole game could be completed in a few hours, that's far too short. Additionally, the game was far too easy and the enemies were weak. I would like a game that is at least a little challenging and that cannot easily be done with no lives lost. I fully agree with the aforementioned notion that without the toys this game is virtually nothing. Without the toys this is a 1 day game that would be quickly forgotten. |

I don't like the lay out. You can't control the camera or zoom in on the character. Skylanders have next to no personality in the game. You can't jump. It is easy. It is very short. It is overly priced.

Nobody says anyone has to like it, but it is baffling why you'd spend your time and energy posting about how you dislike something as opposed to putting that into something you actually like. As for the original post at hand - there was a lot of dislike originally, but I think it mostly petered out when people realised the game wasn't actually all that bad. |

Quoting for truth. Skylanders looked exciting at first, but then, when you play the game, the levels are just unforgivably short, and easy, and boring, and simple. Sure, you can level up your characters, but it's only so much fun replaying the same five-minute levels over and over and over. Especially on the ones where you can't skip the highly lackluster dialogue. And IMO, the later levels are designed much more dully than the first few. Perilous Pastures is my favorite level in terms of design but I NEVER play it because I can't get worthwhile Gold from it. Skylanders is basically a bad version of Kameo: Elements of Power with some figurines on top. The only thing Skylanders has over Kameo is the amount of characters. 37 for Skylanders vs. 10 for Kameo. (Or 8... I haven't played it in so long.) I think honestly the 3DS version of the game is the only good one. It took a right step in adding the 165 Crystals for replay value. But even that is FAR too short for the price. Even if you just buy a few characters just to complete the game you probably aren't going to log an hour per dollar, which is what Skylanders should have done. Make the figurines $5 apiece. They cost $3 to make. Or at least keep it under $10. They're $16 here right now and there's no way anyone can log that many hours on such a dumbed down game. And then they introduce these variants that are almost impossible to get unless you live in America. I admit Giants looks like it will fix a lot of problems... But they will rush it out. The figure quality will be poor, the game will be filled with bugs, and the remodels... I understand you don't have to buy all this but that's the point, they should have made these toys future-proof, or they are going to lose the entire fanbase by the fourth game for sure. Why? Because Skylanders would be a failure without them, but few people want to buy these all over again so they can have DECENT content. And we won't get another Spyro game at least for years because of this franchise either. No, I'm pretty much the opposite of a purist, with a collection even bigger than Adjeca's... But I miss SPYRO games. In Skylanders Spyro is a Skylander and it's boring and he's treated just like all the others and there isn't anything special about him even though he's meant to be a great leader and hero. .... You, Activision. |

Everyone, you do know the target audience is ages 4 to about 12, right? How could a 4 yr old use camera movements to zoom in and out on characters? How could a 4 yr old jump with out the constant frustration of falling off? How could a 4 yr old complete this game in a day? You all are acting like it was made for adults! Actibob knows about their older fan base, but the care more for their younger. It was never intended to be hardcore game.

Great post GamingMaster 76. I don't see why they wouldn't make another Spyro game though. It seems as though they are trying to take him out of Giants, and Skylanders has made him popular again so it would make sense to make a game for him. It would definitely sell better than the Legend Series I'd have thought, since the younger generation have all heard of Spyro through Skylanders.

They probably will - and the OTHER 39 Skylanders as well. Consider this scenario: Mini-adventures that can be downloaded on the PS3, 360, PC and Wii U. Each quest would be about 20% the length that Spyro's Adventure was (about 5 or 6 levels). One mini-adventure is released each week, giving you ten full months of adventures. Each quest would revolve around a single Skylander and their backstory. Play as Sonic Boom to track down the nameless "Devious Wizard" who cursed her young. Ghost Roaster returns to the Valley of the Undead to escape his fate (and probably decides it's not so bad by the end of it). Experience Wham-Shell's fight against the oil-drilling Trolls and the mystic weapon that took him so long to track down he arrived at the fight against Kaos months later than the other Skylanders. You get the idea. You can only play as that "main" Skylander and the others of the same element. (A marketing gimmick to encourage you to buy figures you wouldn't have if you only wanted one of each element!) You could play the game WITHOUT owning Giants OR the figure, but wouldn't be able to transfer your abilities and XP gains to other titles, and wouldn't be able to switch without the Portal. Completing this mini-adventure would give that Skylander a special ability that can be carried over to Giants or all future main games, and there's no way to unlock that ability WITHOUT completing that mini-adventure. So there you go. You'd get backstory adventures, 40 new bite-sized games to play, and since they'd probably be overpriced and charge $14.99 per mini-adventure, they'd get $600 from any obsessed players that HAD to have all the abilities for all of the characters. People might not be happy about it at that price, but you have to admit ... it'd sell. |

I enjoyed the game, but, like it's been said, without the toy interactive concept there wouldn't be anything special about it. The gameplay is, for the most part, simple and doesn't offer anything truly difficult. The bosses are easy and repetitive, and the only level I found to be hard was Kaos's lair, but I quickly got used to it on my second playthrough of it.
The lack of character development is also an issue. Clearly, the main character is supposed to be the player him/herself, but the Skylander characters do have backstory's that could be expanded on or implanted in the game, yet they are not. Also, I haven't been sure if it was specific to my copy, but I've encountered several glitches when I started a new game, such as missing objects, sound issues (especially with the lock puzzles) and, most annoyingly, Adventure Pack levels and Heroic Challenges do not save when I use a new figurine, preventing me from increasing my character stats or permanently accessing a new level. (Note- this only occurred when I started a new game, my first game does not have these problems except for a few lock-puzzle sound issues.) |

Cheeseman- Thanks and I did make a mistake with that, I meant for years. But even then they'll probably reboot him so no one will know anyway. Holding a poll on my Webs site, Spyro's Collection, the large majority expect him to be rebooted... That would be the third time and I agree with them. That's what I think. It's really sad that there hasn't been one or any hint towards it (Sans the Kingdom fiasco, which turned out to be this) since 2008.

I really liked everything about skylanders. I mean, most of the game WAS really easy, but to me the gameplay was really fun and enjoyable. The music and graphics were really cool too. And to be honest, Kaos took me about a week to beat. I was nearly tearing my hair out! Bit embarrasing when I hear about little kids that found it easy and I'm 19 and struggled so much... but in my defense it's alot harder on the Wii.

People have the right to dislike whatever they want, but I do agree its a bit weird that theres those who waste alot of their time hating on it, when they could just be spending that spare time enjoying and talking about the things the DO like...but its whatever, its their time to waste.
Furthermore, I'll admit I didn't go into this game expecting to enjoy/like it myself, as a matter of fact I was sure I'd hate it. (Boy was I surprised) I'm almost in my 30's and both my husband and myself enjoy this game. Our two kids could care less about it.
