A rumor going around is that SEGA and Sonic Team plan to have a Skylanders type gimmick for Sonic. Plus, more complaints about the infamous very ugly shot of Skylanders Spyro!

With the Wii U tablet having the same technology as the PoP, I could see this happening if they were to release a new Sonic game for the Wii U.

Unlike Spyro fans, Sonic fans are a bit..well.. lets say off. (no offense to anyone who's a hardcore sonic fan) So they could definitely do some damage to Sonic Team.

But in all seriousness though, this may work out really good if they pull it off like Skylanders if not better. What they need to do though is:

1) Make all figures readily available from the start. If not, a staggered release with concrete street dates and a TON of stock, but not TOO much. (As in, enough for people to get new ones, but not so many like on L-Triggs level)

2) Remember that there's a price valley. As in, there's a range where parents would feel comfortable purchasing them, but also a cutting off point for the price. Anything from $6-$10 for a single would be fine.

I like Sonic a lot, this is all speculation at this point, but even with the speculation it doesn't look like they're be going full on Skylanders.

It seems more to me like an integration of collectibles and game. Like instead of DLC you buy little add ons. I mean most DLC is 5 bucks anyways so if you could get a little mini diorama of a Sonic map it's just a little added bonus, nad people people like physical things they'd buy more DLC.

I know for me, I NEVER buy anything digitally. I hate iTunes and I never buy movies online or games online. I want a physical disk or object. The only digital items I buy are books mostly. But even that i like physical.

I dunno, man. The LoS portion of the fandom has shown they can be just as... off as the Sonic fans.

But, regardless, it remains to be seen what sort of direction they'll take the art now. Sonic went from a childlike 90's trickster to the more "teen" oriented design with Sonic Adventure. Since they're going to try and get kids to buy the toys, it's likely they'll go "cute and cuddly".

I'm fine with it as long as these two things don't happen

1. No tails or other old characters
   
2. they cancel the comic

I hope this is just a rumor.
They can't just end Sonic after Generations! D:
This is a terrible decision..
(If it does happen though, I'm not gonna go around hating it though.)

You say that, but that's exactly what the Spyro fans did when Skylanders was announced. Hell, they even went further than the Sonic fans and sent death threats to Toys for Bob. Even now, you find people going "YOU RUINED SPYRO FFFFFFFFFF" around the place.

To be honest, for me, Sonic went downhill the minute they redesigned him for Sonic Adventure. It's never been the same for me since then, so I'm not massively bothered.

You guys really are new to rumours aren't you?.
Firstly, there is a song that was posted on Crush 40's official Youtube channel that is believed to be the theme for the next game:
If this is indeed a song for the next game, the reboot would most likely be false since this references to previous themes from previous games.
But anyway, there was all ready another rumour for a new Sonic game that would actually make sense so I doubt this.
