Anyone else completely bored with this game since no new xharacters have been released in a long time? Or anyone else waiting to finish the game when they have all the characters like me? So i play the same levels over and over and level them all up but now Im bored and losing interest. We spend so much time hunting these things we forget there is actually a game to play. Its way to short and to easy. Even the heroics. I hope aGiants is made more for adults and not just kids so it is longer and more challenging.

The Skylanders series is aimed towards children, Drill. The target audience will most likely stay the same, but Giants will possibly be a little more challenging.

Kids get bored with things quicker than adults. If they keep it geared only towards kids they better start releasing some figures. If no more skylanders were coming out ever, this forum would die in a month tops and the interest in the game . At least those that have all the figures would anyways. I wish I didnt rush to get them all so fast. When the game first came out I bought every figure released in the first week. So minus 6 figures Ive had the others for what? 6 months? Geez

I'm disappointed that Skylanders doesn't have a few more options to up the replayability a bit. But since I only play Skylanders one day per week (sometimes not at all in a week), I haven't gotten that bored with it yet. Heck, I only play it whenever I do get bored or have recieved a new character.
Honestly, like most games, it's something you should play sparingly. And like most lines of toys, it's something you have to wait for patiently and nonobsessively. I do agree that Giants better have more replayability, though.

I've been at 100% for a while now. Honestly, hunting is part of the gameplay experience for me at least. (Although clearly it shouldn't)
It's definitely a good marketing strategy. It's keeping people on their toes and interested in the subject while waiting for new things to come out.

That is true. I think Activision has to be very careful with this because people can only tolerate so much. Sure 4-6 months of intense tracking down of the toys but doing it all over again for every game will get tiring and old really quick. Once kids started losing interest because of the long way wait for the other figures (coupled with the low stock and terrible distribution), the parents will be more than happy to take that as sign that the end of a hobby/toy/game for them. I mean right now I see no real reason to get all of them because most (probably all) of the characters are coming out again. Sure it is a different pose/mold but it is the same figure.

I like that the characters are being released in waves. It's another thing to look forward to when going to the store, instead of getting everything day 1 then being done.
I'm a toy collector already, so it's just something I'm used to. The only problem (which is also a good thing) is that it caught the Christmas toy craze, so people who never intend to use them kept scooping them up with the idea that toys are little plastic investments (your Beanie Babies aren't so valuable now, are they?).

I'm at 100% completion, but it's still fun. I don't play it 24/7. Perhaps this is part of your problem? I am still hunting the adventure packs for the extra levels though. This is no different than any other game, seriously. Once you've beat it, it's over. Sell it or put it on a shelf and move on. Everyone has games that they played feverishly and love, but sooner or later...... it's over. Move on to the next one....... No big deal.

Not bored with the game at all.....wish there was more content though! Have not really played it much these days.
I am more bored and tired of the phone calls to Toys R Us ....they go like this: Hello, electronics Trevor speaking Me: Hi there, do you have any new Skylanders in? Trevor: No, no Skylanders at this time. Me: Thanks Trevor: bye Click I think once Dragon's Peak and all the Characters are out then I might get bored ...but by then it will probably be close to Giants! haha

Jap28,
I think the thing you don't realize, is many of those calls are false information. I've caught them in lies multiple times, as have others. They do get packs in, many employees don't even take the time to look. They just assume there aren't. Ask them to check their inventory system, or ask them to see if anything will be arriving in the next shipment. They have inventory tracking. They are just lazy as low paid employees. And they get tired of our relentless calling. I bet 20 percent of their calls is skylander related. So if you call, get specific. I believe we will see the following on the 21st. And this makes sense to me for the following reasons. 1. We will see the current display stocked with singles of the previous releases. I figure 3-5 of each figure. 2. They are getting a new display, which is probably going to house all the new content which will be Dragon's Peak and the 3 pack of new figures. 3. There will be a limit of 1 per for the new items that are released, but I think demand will not be so crazy that we all won't get our completed figure sets. I am pretty sure that Activision knows how much they need to release and have been likely cranking as much out as possible 24-7 in China. So lets all just calm the heck down and get there early. If you are worried, try to bring friends with to help you. And when you're done at TRU, go to other stores if you fail at TRU. I know Gamestop will be getting in the new content and some have said they will also be getting DP in their shipments. I for one plan to use my 1 for DP, and get the individual figures at other stores if I can't get them here. DP will be a much smaller run than the singles and 3 packs. So now that all this is settled, lets go back to playing the game and take a few deep breaths.

My kids have started to show fatigue with the game. They'd rather play Rock Band now. It's really because they've killed Kaos like 100 times on each of their fully tricked out champions.
Why they didn't make this game open ended is beyond me. No time sink. No gold sink. Nothing to sustain interest past leveling and PVP (and my kids don't enjoy PVP at all.)

We've had that feeling since November last year. This is the reason why online battle mode will be essential to the life of this franchise. If the game after Giants comes out without this feature then I think that is the end for me for this game. I've already done a lot of hunting down toys with another franchises and 2 games is enough for me to let me experience the toy-video game model. New gimmicks like light up figures can only do so much before people realize how little it brings to the gaming experience. If Activision thought people won't get tired doing the heroic challenges then they were dead wrong. It gets old really quick especially without any solid reason to level up your characters.

The game is what it is. New figures are all they can do to sustain it, because really, how do you keep someone playing the same game for a full year? Name one other game you've had since October/November that you're NOT getting tired of by now. We're tired of Skyrim, possibly the longest console game of all time, and we've had it for less time than Skylanders. Games aren't meant to sustain themselves and be playable forever. Even Little Big Planet's user-created levels and online co-op get old in the same three-to-five month period. I don't think the future of the series is in question at all. Kids aren't so fickle that they won't jump right in after Giants comes out. Let's be realistic here. Did we get tired of Mario as a series, permanently, after completing and tiring of each new iteration, or did we wait patiently and excitedly for the next Mario game, only to play it to death again? People might be getting bored of Skylanders, but it wouldn't be a video game if it didn't eventually get boring.

Well...they are doing something right. When the new Skylanders Giants come out. We can play our originals in it too! So it isn't like we won't get use out of them again. They'll probably open up new weapons, attacks and whatnot as well. So our skylanders will wait for action for the foreseeable future. I'm not worried that this will be a bad investment. It just means the Skylander Universe can keep growing and growing...as will it's fan base.

I play Halo Reach with friends online 1 to 2 times a week since launch back in September 2010. This game would benefit from a number of online only activities. 1: They need to make it more challenging. 2: They need to have a NPC on the hub who will allow you to go on randomly generated dungeon raids with up to 1 friend. At the end can be a boss who rewards the players with a unique item to use ingame, that is worth going through said dungeon for. To flesh out the dungeon raid thing more, TFB could have done this. Randomly genrated dungeons can be themed after the 8 elements, like in the first game. So, you choose your element, which has a set number of unique items to aquire. The drop rate could be low, so multiple runs are needed. The theme you select determines the drops at the end. Each theme can have its own boss at the end, which drops said treasure, which has a chance at holding any number of unique items, but only one drops at a time, or money drops. It could be online only. Wii is no stranger to online, as people have been playing Smash Bros. for 4 years now, online. 360/PS3 is pretty self explanatory.

Let's see. Rock Band and World of Warcraft (not a console game, but still been playing it since 2006). There is no reason a game can't continue to bring entertainment value if it's designed in such a way as to stay fresh. DLC, online play and Expansions do that. Skylanders has none of these.

I agree the game is boring after completion. Getting the new characters is exciting but actually leveling them up once you are finished is tedious!
The novelty of the idea has worn off with this mucked up wave 4 release. Honestly, it wouldn't be as bad if they gave us a release date. |

Yes, but that's exactly why no one can objectively say Skylanders has "gotten old." The games you guys are listing sound like playing a teeth-pulling simulator with real, working peripherals, while V and I still play plenty of PVP on a semi-consistent basis and aren't completely bored with it. A game can't stay fresh forever. I got sick of WoW in three months for the same reasons people are tiring of Skylanders--incredibly repetitive gameplay--and there are those who still log in today, six years after buying the game. You can't just say the entire thing has jumped the proverbial shark because you're personally bored of it. Figures and games continue to fly off the shelves. The fandom is still expanding, months after Christmas. I understand if you're tired of it, but that is clearly not the prevailing opinion.

This claim cannot be validated as there is no way of knowing how many of these purchasers have just gotten in to the game or have played it since inception. Hence, many of these sales could well be to people who have not had months to get bored yet.

Was I the only one who expected this game to be longer than it was? I mean when I saw the game was a standard 23 levels long it was exciting until, of course, I played each level and they were incredibly short.
The timing of release for the waves is not adding to the excitement, it's adding to the decline in excitement. As time goes on, far more interesting things and necessities take over focus. Activision needs to step up or ship out. |

The existence of another possibility doesn't make said possibility likely, though. Whether or not what I've said is ultimately true, it's far more likely that it's not just scalpers selling to scalpers on eBay with no actual fanbase still interested. Ultimately, it's a question of plausibility, and as sales of both starters and individual figures remain brisk, it's unlikely the trend is cooling as opposed to staying steady or intensifying. |

People get bored of games no matter HOW awesome you make them, why else would companies make sequels? They're not supposed to keep you occupied for all etenity. Go play something else, and then later come back and play it again, that's what I do. I'm playing Spyro 2 at the moment. :3 Even online content would get boring eventually. And then there's the fact that this is a kids game, an online PVP would be Pedo paradise!

...as sales of both starters and individual figures remain brisk, it's unlikely the trend is cooling as opposed to staying steady or intensifying.
This is where the original premise goes awry. The discussion is based on the longevitivity of an individual's enjoyment, not the longevitivity of the franchise as a whole. Starter packs flying out the door demonstrates new users "jumping on the bandwagon". These new users would logically represent a component of fig sales. Heck, it is reasonable to presume that a component of fig sales are for people who purchased the game at inception and are buying to finish the collection and don't even play any more as the game holds no further appeal, fresh chars or not. Hence, trying to use fig sales to bolster the argument that the game retains individual enjoyment is relatively specious; no direct correlation between the two statistics may be derived. There is no debating that within the community, the game retains its popularity but this thread is about how soon individuals tire of it.

A difficulty level would solve a LOT of this game's problems with boredom. Easy, hard, and insane difficulties would keep people playing for quite a while, and would probably make completing the heroic challenges a neccesity for insane 100% completion.
Activision understood this with Guitar Hero ... Why don't they get it with Skylanders? If all you had were the easy or medium options in GH, it would have never survived as long as it did. The fun part of GH was that when you mastered easy, you moved on to medium. When you mastered medium, you moved on to hard. When you master hard, you move on to expert. When you master expert, you become a YouTube sensation (and chicks dig you).
