On the ruins I fond that if you use a certain attack on the barrels to get coins
Nothing comes out. Like Bashes role attacks and chop chops bone Bone Bramblers you get
nothing, but while using Cynders lighting You will get coins.
Why is this?

From what I have seen: Occasionally, the barrels don't give coins. It seems to be a glitch in the game. If you reload the Ruins, then the barrels will be refilled.

Barrels at the ruins? I can't recall seeing any. The only thing I've found that gives you coins is the rock next to the totem. If you continue hitting it, 1 coin crystals will pop out and eventually a few 10 coin ones will come out.

I think Mr-McChicken means the various smashable crates you can find, like down at the beach and so on.
I found that some attacks will not result in any coins, so I think it does matter, but I couldn't tell you which attacks are duds. |

It isn't random, there are some skylanders that have attacks that yield no coins when you smash something.

Nope, it's random. Sometimes you get coins, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get a drought of no coins at all, it's just random.

that is because it is NOT random. The amount IN them is, but the attack you use can sometimes destroy what is in the barrels

Sometimes.
Doesn't that go hand in hand with... random?

SceneSpyro is right, but I will elaborate and say that EVERY time you use a certain attack, it won't yield any money.

Could it possibly be some attacks are set in the fact that they produce coins no matter what and some are random, its quite possible the programers did that. Such as the primary attack only giving coins and the secondary or special never, or other variants of such

Except there's really no proof or even reason for that. It doesn't make a lick of sense. I still say it's random and you're just getting a dry spell, but present solid proof for this extraordinary claim and that'll make way for another question: Why is that even a thing?

Unless somebody feels the urge for extensive testing or cracks the game or knows the programmers i doubt we will ever get a solid answer. Programmers do tend to be quirky. I say the easiest solution if one has the resources is to use the cheat to get the unlimited coins on the beach.

I have done quite a bit of messing around and experimenting in the ruins with all the different characters. There are indeed certain attacks that will not yield money from crates and barrels when you use those attacks. Typically, your character's primary attacks will release coins. While secondary attacks will not get any money from busting open the barrels.
For example: Spyro's primary fireball attack will reveal coins when you break the barrels. But, Spyro's secondary charging horns attack will not reveal any coins at all. I have it figured out for every character released so far. And it works the same every single time, so it is not random at all. I can type out a full list of what attacks reveal money and what attacks don't for each character if you are all interested. As a general rule of thumb, any secondary attack that is a running/charging/rolling attack will not reveal money in the ruins. The amount of money you get from the barrels is random, but which attack gives you money and which doesn't is the same every time for each character while in the ruins. Note: This does not affect breaking barrels in the levels themselves. Only while you are out in the ruins. In the levels, the attack you use doesn't change whether you get money from the container or not. Also, I am playing on the Playstation 3 version, so there is the chance that things might be different on the other consoles, although it doesn't seem like the type of thing that would change between versions.

I have the PS3 version, too, and I think I'm going to check out what you've said and run the experiment myself. I've always assumed it's random myself and would like to see if indeed it is or isn't.

Thanks for doing the legwork and elaborating, delta chameleon - it certainly isn't random on the PS3 version, which is what I'm on as well.

Oddly enough for some characters, both attacks work. Cynder's shadow dash and lightning breath work to get coins from any of the barrels in the ruins.

I went on the PS3 yesterday and tried out the barrel/vase/crate breaking on my own. From what I've seen, delta chameleon is right; however I must add that the primary attack does not always cause coins/gems to come out. When I used the primary attack approximately 1/10 times no coin/gem appeared. It was hard to notice, but did happen.

Well, since it seems the attacks are a deciding factor, I'd say it might be a programming quirk. Most likely an oversight.
