I think Lightning Rod smashed Sky Princess' face into a car windshield, and then took their mother out for a nice seafood dinner but never call her again. Thats probably the reason behind the hate.

As for the thread in hand, I'm remaining unspoiled about Lightning Rod until we finally get the figure, but I'm sure I'll be more eloquent in my opinions!

lightning rod feels far too out of place in the skylanders general design direction, since he's way too anthropromorphic (his features are too humanoid)
the second-most-humanoid character is probably chop-chop, and that's stretching it thin as it is.

if they toned down is human features a fair bit, he probably wouldn't be so bad

it's like the design version of the uncanny valley (look it up)
