Do you just want jumping for the sake of being able to jump or do you actually think it will enhance gameplay? I'm not trolling just curious. I'm a fan of the jump pads because it's not used all that often. Plus how would you solve the problem of losing an attack button?

And because I have my own opinions, why is it everyone (myself included) wants the ability to jump?

As far as losing an attack button, you dont have to. Just use the action button for jump. It would be easy to code (if statement really) to jump or move a lever with the same button. Why do I want the ability to jump? To make attacks from a different angle better.

I guess for me I don't want a jump button. I'm worried (mainly for my own seven year old) that with the ability to jump comes a level design that incorporates more jumping. Be it moving platforms, obstacles to jump over, falling off the edge of a zone. Those types of situations might discourage the younger generation and that's who this game is really made for. I grew up with Megaman, Castlevania, Mario, Metroid, Sonic and the like. I know jumping platformers. Maping the jump ability to the action button could work but I think they want it simple for the younger crowd. Having one button do two separate things might get sticky for some.

I mostly play co-op, and tethered co-op would be dreadful with ANY amount of platforming whatsoever. Just look at the bounce pads. No jumping for me!

A jump button will destroy the PvP of the game. You will end up with players that do nothing that spam the jump button as they bounce around like a cracked out pogo stick with attacks hoping to get in lucky shots and avoid damage rather than actually trying to have quality matches.

Adding the ability to jump adds nothing to the game. Nothing. The game is designed for dungeon crawler style play. Jumping for the sake of jumping is meaningless unless there is a reason to jump. That's why the bounce pads are there.

However, if the game was designed because there was jumping, things would be different. The levels would have platforming segments and hidden goodies that could only be reached by jumping. Enemies themselves would probably have their attacks revamped to reach up a bit higher as well.

Plus as pointed out on other threads this game is more of a dungeon crawler (Diablo, Torch Light) and those games would seem awkward with a jump. I've never once played those games and missed the ability to jump..../Barbarian Charge....Rarrrrarrrr. OMG I would crap myself if the game Voodood a Barbarian charge/leap instead of the reverse "Get Over Here" Scorpion move.

The only time I ever felt like I wanted a jump button was during those times when you smash open boxes, and the money flies up and lands on a rock or a ledge where you can't collect it because it's JUST above your head.

But that itself could be fixed by maybe programing a "pull in radius" or just making it so they can't stick to the rocks (Or the WALLS, in quite a few cases). I don't feel like I'm really missing anything without a jump button otherwise.

Pretty much what Spyroid said; when treasure gets stuck, that's my main frustration. Otherwise, I don't see the need for a jump button, myself. If I want to jump, I'll play the 3DS version!

I do have an ulterior motive too. I dont want a jump button. I am guessing the younger players want a jump button because it would make getting to treasure and hats far easier. Not having the ability to jump up where you want to makes it hard to collect some things. Being that you have to use your noodle to figure out the puzzle the designers put forth is what it should be about. So you have to use some critical thinking, so you have to use deductive logic, so you have to exercise your problem solving skills, its about time. With a jump button, more than half of the in game/special area treasures become caek instead of an actual puzzle.

For me, as I said, having the ability to perform an attack from a different angle would be the only bonus I can see.

I don't see why this game needs jumping. It's completely unnecessary. But if people are really desperate for such a feature, just get Stealth Elf's ninja flipping upgrade.

Honestly, there's no point. The only reason that the jump button is on the 3DS is because of how the levels are made, where you have to hop from island to island. That works well because you have 4 buttons on the 3DS to use, 1 of which is used to jump.

The same is in the consoles, although at a much smaller amount. You just use the jump pads to bounce. Being able to normally would detract from using the character; something that the 3DS version does because you only have 2 moves, where in the console versions, you have multiple attacks you can perform.

Actually, the reason the levels were made like that is because jump was added before the levels were created. smilie

EIther way, since you theres no real need for jumping since everything is low or opens up for you to reach, I'm alright with no jumps.

It was weird playing a game with Spyro that lacked a jump because I used to just...prance around the game that way. However, I got used to it and, personally, I don't need the jump feature anymore. The designs work well enough without needing a jump.

It will ad more deepness and exploration in the level just like the old Spyro. I don't understand why people say it will ruin the puzzle is just a question of size...

I admit that the bounce pads are inconsistent (to be nice) from time to time, but in general I don't have a problem with the lack of a jump button. No need to change it, IMO.

I think this is the kicker right here. Skylanders isn't old Spyro. It never will be. Spyro is in it but Skylanders, however it is its own franchise now. Trying to make it like what came before it isnt going to happen. Activision is making it their own now, and isnt going to use what Sony/Insomniac started or what came in between except what they can remold for profit.

Someone else stated in the "Proper Spyro Game" thread that Skylanders is like Super Smash Bros. It's not a Mario game or a Zelda game or a Pokemon game simply because Mario, Link, and Pikachu are in it. It's a completely different franchise that happens to feature some characters form different games. Look at Skylanders in the same light.
