This is topic where we all get to give credit to some of the less-used, less-bought, less-famous Skylanders that make up the bulk of the collection. Many of these characters have incredible abilities and prove that we should never judge a book by its cover. People should hear about these unsung heroes of Skylands, and this is the topic to do it!

Remember to post a brief reason why you feel this way about your pick, as well. Otherwise, nobody's going to know why they're so great in the first place!

For me, two of the best and most underrated characters are Voodood and Dino Rang. Voodood is an incredible melee character, and in my opinion, the best Magic Skylander... it's just that he's plagued by a look that screams "don't buy me!" I myself passed him over as possibly the most generic of the bunch before I played him, but ever since trying him, he's been climbing steadily up my list of favorites. As for Dino Rang, he shreds enemies like paper, is easily in the top 10 PVP characters in all of Skylanders, and does it all while spouting gibberish in an Australian accent. He's often overlooked because the rest of the Earth element is so incredible, but trust me, he fits right in.

Voodood

Incredible Damage which stacks up even against Stealth Elf.

Good Defense.

Amazingly fast with Zipcord.

but ...

Requires much more skill to be effective using the axe combo and zip line effectively!

I have most of the "popular" Skylanders.

But... I do think Dino-Rang is pretty underrated. I'm not even a big fan of dinosaurs. And I still found him cool(also love the boomerang attacks)!

Most underrated for sure is Dino-Rang. When I bought the 3DS game I bought Hex and Dino-Rang at the same time, and Dino-Rang is probably my favourite Skylander to play as in the 3DS game. I don't know about the console game, but Prism Break and Terrafin REALLY stink in the 3DS game, and while Bash is really good, I think Dino-Rang is much more fun to play as. I also don't think Flameslinger gets enough love. Again just going by the 3DS game, but his super speed is really helpful, his arrows are really strong, and the trail of fire he leaves behind as he runs is easily abused too. Still just going by the 3DS game, but I think Chop Chop is pretty underrated too. He's quite good as he levels up.

Oh, and Stump Smash is the most broken Skylander in the 3DS game. He's practically invincible, and has some of the highest damaging attacks of any Skylander. Strange how so many people say he sucks in the console game. :/

hmmmm i pick boomer he looks crappy but acrually is pretty good i like him cuz throwing dynamite at an enemy is fun and easy i play the 3Ds version so hes awesome i like it when im sprinting and i poop bombs

Boomer has grown on me over time. Like you said, he's actually quite good in the 3DS game. I think what got me to like Boomer more was when I was telling my mom about Skylanders and how nobody buys Boomer. I showed her the figure and she goes "Ewwww! He's so ugly! No wonder nobody wants him."

It was at that point that I really felt sorry for the guy, and started to like him as an underdog.

Probably Voodood and Boomer due to their unpopularity, but the fact is, they're both formidable characters.

thanx now i know which characters are bad i should've bought stump smash instead of prism break but ghost roaster sux in 3Ds but hes good in the console i guess some characters are good in specific consoles

Boomer, Vodood and Dino-Rang they may not look good but they have some great upgrades. I was never fond of Stump Smash and Prism Break, they are my least played characters.

Yeah. Prism Break and Ghost Roaster are lousy in the 3DS game, but I always hear they're really good in the console game. I've also heard many people say Wrecking Ball sucks in the console game, but he's actually quite good in the 3DS one. To be honest, there aren't a ton of characters that are flat out lousy in the 3DS game. Zap, Ghost Roaster, Prism Break, Terrafin, Double Trouble, Eruptor, and VooDood are the only ones I can really think of that stink in the 3DS game.

well zap doesnt suck that bad his upgrades arent that good but hes not terrible hes easier to control than prism break and i know drobot isnt that good compared to his console version and yeah i hear from alot of people that wrecking ball sucks in the console

Flameslinger should get just as much love as Zap seems to be getting. He has an equivalent dash move, and has superior ranged attacks. He is my go to character when I need to complete a level under par time.

I don't get it about Boomer. People think he looks ugly? It never occurred to me until reading it on these forums. Even if he was, so what? People really want their gaming characters to be Captain Vanilla Studsauce? Personally I think he looks crazy, which is hilarious and has a ton of personality. I'll take that any day.

Methinks he was speaking in a generalized sense, meaning those that fight well. Not "Warrior" as in a D&D/WoW style class.

Voodood, Wrecking Ball, and Dino-Rang. I'm not all that fond of Boomer, perhaps I'm not playing him right, but for the difficulty it is to play him, his damage isn't that rewarding.

I don't know why anyone would say Prism Break sucks. Admittedly I haven't played the 3DS version, but in the console version, he's amazing.

You can add Cynder to that list. The range on her lightning in the 3DS version is pathetic compared to the console, and even though her shadow-ball attack has a pretty long range, it also has an agonizingly slow rate of fire. About the only thing she has going for her is her jumping.

Anyway, Boomer is the king of being underrated. Both of his paths are outrageous. His full-upgrade smash attack only takes a second to charge and does 100 damage. I spammed that through so many levels.

I think Boomer is really underrated he's the only character I can find on the shelves. But if you upgrade him right he is actually a really good Skylander!

I've said it before but in my opinion any character can be a good one if you know how to use them right and if you actually put time into making them strong. Ya I think Stump Smash is underrated but his acorns and mega nut give him a unique move that drags other characters down to his speed, he may have high attack stats but I've never found his attacks to do that much damage. Voodood just gets crap because of his looks, but he is actually very useful. Boomer is the same, I see a little bit of myself in Boomer. Sure he lacks my dashing good looks but we both have a passion for blowing things up I also think that Dino-Rang can be useful and actually looks cool in the game. I'm not too crazy about him in toy form. He can be good but his attacks rely mostly on range and doesnt fit in with my battle style since i am more of a brawler.

I played with boomer and when you get the triple TNT upgrade he becomes a powerhouse!

Grill grunt is my BEST well next to my runner up whirlwind.
FTW grill and whirlwind are fully upgraded.

Almost anything that isn't a dragon or griffon.

Prism Break is actually a very good yet underminded character, several people on this topic alone have all said that he "sucks" when he really doesnt if you go down his crystal path. My husband uses Prism Break all the time, as well as Dino-Rang, and he calls Prism Break, Prism Broken because of all the damage he can do with him. SPECIALLY in the 3DS game, because when he's fully lvled up and upgraded he jsut sits there and rapes face with his lazers. It's awesome!!

Other people undermind besides those two are; DEF. boomer, Stump Smash, ERUPTOR!(i NEVER hear anyone talking about him), voodood, LIGHTNING ROD, ZOOK, WHAM SHELL, (caps for those because they're not out yet lol), and i'd say Double Trouble but he's actually on everyone's want list, idk if its because he's wave 3 and hard to find/hes new, or if he's just that good, from what i've heard he's pretty darn good, so i can't wait to get him in the mail to try him out lol. Slam Bam is another one of those characters who were undermined until they found out he was in an adventure pack and same theories as Double Trouble. =)

Drill Sergeant i dont think is a very played character, people like him i assume but noone ever talks about him, and the only reason he's been bought up like crazy is because he was an exclusive until now, but NOW he's wave 3 so now everyone's trying to get one, specially in his triple pack with Whirlwind and Double Trouble. I saw some gameplay of him and he doesn't look that good, but i still cant wait to have him in my collection. <3

please note that i love all the skylanders and i cant wait to "spend time" with all of them(by playing alot of the games with them alone to get to know them better and their paths etc.). Except you Lightning Rod.... noone likes you >=c .... JK ...seriously though he's my all time least fav......

Ignitor and Terrafin. I never really wanted Ignitor, but my jaw just dropped today while playing with him for the first time. Dat Soul of Flame thing he does is amazing and incredible.

Terrafin I really didn't care for when I first got the pack, but he really grew on me after seeing what a beating he could do in game.

i like how terrafin can swim underground and attack things while doing it its pretty awesome! lol

Terrafin is OP as hell. At least in the console version. Also, Ignitor looks amazing, aesthetically and gameplay wise...not sure why anyone would not want him (aside his price tag). I'd kill to have one, mostly because my boyfriend loves him to death, but neither of us have a 3DS, so buying the game to get that one character would hurt my pockets.

Lots of people think Ignitor is useless because they go Battlemaster. Soul of Flame, on the other hand, is not only one of the least-picked paths in Skylanders, but by far one of the overall best in the entire game. Ignitor is a beast with it, and even flirts with top-tier status. He's underrated because people are blinded by the sword.

The sword looks cool, and I admittedly don't know much about his paths. I'd probably run both specs on him and just reset till I figure out what I'd want to do with him. Too bad he's so expensive.

I noticed that with Terrafin's knuckles and Stealth Elf's blades.

I know I'm being dumb, but I kind of wish you could "unequip" some of the weapons cosmetically, but keep the upgrade. I like the idea of Terrafin punching faces with his bare hands, or Prisim Break's crystals not being yellow.

I put in a lot of time with Voodood today. He is a really strong character. Pull towards mobs, drop a trip wire or two for a bit of instant aoe, and start smacking stuff. It all dies quickly. While playing, I had wondered if he was actually close to Stealth Elf levels of effectiveness.

I completely agree. My favourite skylander gameplay-wise is my Water Weaver Gill Grunt, which is why it really annoys me that he has such ugly looking visual upgrades, with gold spires on his backpack and the harpoon gun from the first harpoon damage upgrade which is blue-scaled with orange tubes.

Voodood is definetly one of the most powerful Skylanders. And is the most underrated Skylander
