Any fans of the 3DS game? [CLOSED]

I notice most people who talk about Skylanders talk about the console version. As I've said here before, I started off with the 3DS game, and bought the Wii version once I found out I couldn't erase character data without it. I was wondering if there are any other fans of the 3DS game out there? Personally I enjoy the 3DS one much more than the console one at this point, though I've only played up to about chapter 4 so far in the Wii version. The Wii game is VERY slow compared to the 3DS game. Unless I just don't know how, I don't think there's a dash function in the console game, which really slows down the action. Though I love how Patrick Warburton is the voice of Flynn, because Patrick Warburton is flippin awesome! (Though I'd be lying if I said his voice isn't a bit distracting)

But yeah, I was just wondering if there are any fans of the 3DS game out there? Because it's a completely different game than the console one, and it's a ton of fun. It's kind of sad how the 3DS game has been selling a lot of copies, but only because people want the toys, and not to play the actual game. If you've bought the game and don't have a 3DS, consider getting one, because it's been the game I've been playing the most so far on my 3DS, and I think that if you're a Skylanders fan, you'll love it too. : )

I also started with the 3DS version and loved it! I'll probably start over now that I've finished the PS3 version, also. Being able to jump also helps xP

I absolutely adored the 3DS version - I got both it and the PS3 one at the same time, but the 3DS one was the one I played first (since I was saving the console one for when a friend came to visit). They're definitely very different kettles of fish, but I love the platforming action of the 3DS one!

I started off with the 3DS version the day it came out and I think it almost beats the console version! I got the PS3 version the same day, but I had to wait until Christmas to have it. I love how it's really getting back to the platforming goodness of the older Spyros, and it's so fast-paced too. I've 100% completed(minus the Dragon's Peak and whatnot) my 3DS file.

Until yesterday I had no idea how different (and fun!) the 3DS version was. I broke down and bought it on sale at GameStop for Ignitor, but we plesently surprised how fun and exciting the it was! Since I've "beaten" the PS3 version storywise it's nice to have another adventure to use my Skylanders on, and level up!

I started out with the 3DS ver. and then i got the console ver. a week or two after mainly to get the figures lol. I leveled up all my skylanders on the 3ds then used them on the console to get there upgrade paths. I do prefer the 3ds ver. jump and dashing are really the main reasons. I also like that i get basically all the moves with out having to collect money and pay for them. Mind you i do like how your skylander changes there apperince in some way after certain upgrades on the console version

I also think because of the 3ds ver. being so different it should have its own sub forum like the universe ver. does but that's just how i would do it lol

The 3DS game is most certainly NOT terrible. It's a really fun game, and highly worth it. As for if you should buy it right away, I can't really say if you should or not. You're the one with the money. If you don't think you can spare the money at the moment, wait until you can. smilie

What do you do in the 3ds game

The 3DS game is a whole different game. It has a whole different set of characters aside from one or two, which if you're a fan of the story in the console game, may be a turn off. Really, the story is not a big part of the 3DS game, which in my case is actually a good thing. The 3DS game is more of a traditional 3D platformer, but not in the Mario 64/Sonic Adventure sense. More in the style of the Crash Bandicoot games where it's pretty much a set path, with some alternate routes. You can dash in the game which makes the game move at a much quicker pace, and you can also jump/double jump. The upgrade system is different too. Rather than upgrading Skylanders by purchasing upgrades, it's more like Pokemon in that you get upgrades as you level up. Some levels you get health boosts, some levels you get attack boosts, and some levels you learn new techniques. That does result in there not being any alternate upgrade paths though.

It's a whole different game, and a very good one. If you like platformers, you'll like this one. It's pretty easy too, but there were several times where I actually lost a Skylander, and even a couple game overs. Though that was mostly from me being overly reckless. smilie

I can honestly say that if I'd started with the 3DS version, I probably wouldn't have given the console version a chance, and thus I never would've gotten hooked on this franchise. The 3DS version is not a bad game by any stretch but I wouldn't call it memorable. I really think the lack of bosses, the random checkpoints and the annoying Radiance Fountain missions are the biggest turnoffs.

And there are too many Skylanders that are just awful at the platforming aspect. Pretty much any slow character is a big liability.

I like the 3DS version. I mostly bought it and a 3DS console so I could use my figures with another Skylander game (I also have the Xbox 360 version and sometimes play online). It has a different story and plays more like a platformer than the console version. The only thing I don't like is the time limit that appears whenever you collect a crystal because then it's a mad dash to the exit.

I bought the 3DS version for the same reason as Star Dragon, so i could use all my Skylanders on another game instead of just one. I have the Wii version and love it, but I really love the 3DS version as well. I just dont like that switching skylanders isn't as easy as the console version.

Otherwise so far I have no problems with the 3DS version smilie

Well if your friend said it's bad, obviously he or she has played it. Ask your friend if you can borrow it to try it out. Or if your friend borrowed it from someone else, ask your friend to borrow it from that person again, and then borrow it from your friend. smilie You may also want to ask how much of the game your friend played. If your friend didn't play very much of it, it's not really a fair judgement. I personally don't like the console game that much, but I'm not going to say people shouldn't buy it seeing as how I've only played a few chapters so far, and haven't had enough time with it to really give a valid opinion.

Did your friend really play the game? Hummm Does he like Skylanders for the console?
I think if you are a fan of Skylanders and loved the console version you should enjoy the 3D's version too!
Personally I really enjoyed both games a lot! If you already have a 3D's and you do like Skylanders....and you have the money why not get it?

They're different games with different mechanics and as such I don't think it's fair to compare them as a "which is better" (other threads like this exist). I'm glad to see DinoHex's post which doesn't try to make the games compete but allows you to enjoy the 3DS and Console verisons for what they are. Don't be tricked by the similar name... there's no reason or sense to compare NBA 2k12 to NFL 2k12 (i don't play sports games for the most part but this seemed like a good example of similar games that have completely different mechanics and thus can't really be compared)

thanks!

If you're a fan of old school platformy games, you'll probably love Skylanders 3DS
If you're a fan of adventure brawlers then you're probably going to love Skylanders Console

The real bonus here is that both (completely different) games benefit eachother as you play them! smilie

The 3DS game is a nice change of pace, and presents an actual challenge, unlike the console versions. They're very different games, and I like them both, but the 3DS game has some very mature undertones and as I said, is more difficult. I enjoy that I actually die somewhat often when I play it.

If I had a 3DS I would have bought it in a snap when it was reduced to £34.91 in Tesco but I don't... and I'm not going to buy another handheld just for a handheld version of a console game I like (I did that with the PSP and LittleBigPlanet) I can't justify the expense... not when I just spent a load of money on a 3D TV and surround sound system that I probably shouldn't have bought. I'm sure it's a great game and I'd love it but if I shelled out for a 3DS+Skylanders my husband would be really upset because he wants new speed skates this year.

I have to say though... I don't consider Skylanders to be an especially portable game, it's not like you could just stick it in your pocket... you need to haul the portal and any Skylanders you want to use around with you... carting Skylander characters around seems like a recipe for losing arms/wings/heads. It would have to be a game I played at home really (especially as 3 of my characters live MIB on my shelf when not in use and therefore take up even more space).

It works differently with the 3DS game, you have two active skylanders at any one time. You scan them into your game, and it reads from the figure/writes to the figure at the same time. So any levels gained in the 3DS game needs to be transferred back by re-scanning in your skylander. A little frustrating, but it allows for portability.

Oh I see, that's not so bad and it explains a review of a triple pack I read once where a woman said she was annoyed by the fact that she paid so much for the characters for her son when all you do is put them into the game and "never use the figure again".

I have the Wii and 3DS version, but I personally like the Wii version better, because it took me much longer to beat all of the regular levels, replaying levels is more than than in the 3DS version, and you get more out of each skylander, beacuase you can go through the fun of gettting all their upgrades, and alll you can do in the 3DS version is level up, and beause you can only use two skylanders at once in the 3DS version.

You can only use two Skylanders in the console version at a time as well.

The main difference is that you can store two Skylanders to play in the game without needing a portal on the 3DS version.
