Has anyone got any tips on how to achieve this? I went through the level in what I thought was a fairly quick manner (pulling the levers at the beginning and ignoring as many enemies as I could, doing the block puzzles without error, and so on), but am still unable to get a time under 6 minutes, 29 seconds. Any particular Skylanders who are good for finishing the minions quickly? I want to finish this one criteria before moving on in my 100% play through. Any help appreciated!

I daresay that Stealth Elf is the answer as she is both quick in movement and expedient in her minion disposal.
I am now waiting for someone to respond that Stealth Elf is always the answer and if she isn't the answer, then you are not asking the correct question.

Stealth Elf is always good to try and beat time criteria but I also used Flameslinger a lot!
Keep doing like you are doing...I had a little trouble too! Make sure to do puzzles and move big blocks as fast as you can. Ignore as many enemies as you can.....pick a strong character for the end battle and use your fighting swords too! I found water characters worked better on these minions. It can get a little frustrating....you think you did it fast then the stage ends and no star!!! Just keep trying you will get it.

Would a speed hat help shave a few precious seconds off the time?

^ Good idea...use a fast Character with a good "speed" hat too!

I used L-Spyro for this... Then again, I used L-Spyro for everything to achieve 100%
Anyway, I just kinda blasted through, ignoring enemies, and learning the quickest path for those blocks by heart. Probably not a great deal of help, but best of luck! |

Stealth Elf, or, if you're on PS360, Drill Sergeant as well, would be my top two picks for you.

...That's seriously the standard for a time trial in this game? Either it's really an easy game (heard that a lot anyway), or the levels are too long. Anyway, I don't own Skylanders, but I can give general tips for speedrunning in any game, that would apply here: -"Hug" the inside walls of areas in order to be able to turn as soon as the wall ends. May not sound like much, but it can shave quite a few seconds off of your time. -Experiment with attacks/techniques that might actually give characters a burst of speed, even if it's small. Find a good one, and use it as often as possible. By this, I mean use it as a form of transport, rather than just an attack. -If the stage isn't too difficult at a normal pace, then don't worry about conserving the "energy" supply of the game (I take it there is a magic meter or something for certain attacks). If enemies give you energy or whatever when defeated, rely on them, rather than any other energy source. Spam attacks that dispatch enemies the quickest, however, this doesn't necessarily mean spam your most devastating move. Just use whatever move, or combination of moves that will dispatch each enemy type the quickest. Focusinng on rapid attacks, rather than attacks that have some sort of drawn out animation before or after the attack is performed, would be a good idea, especially on enemies with a small amount of health. -If there are any tricks you can use to skip areas altogether, use them. -If you have to fight enemies and there is a bottomless pit/insta-kill hazard near by, knock the enemies into it. Basically, use your initiative. If you spot any little thing that might make you faster, take advantage of it.

^ Yeah, the levels are really long. Things like puzzles, especially if you do like one thing wrong, will drastically make you play longer. What's REALLY annoying is the game doesn't even tell you how long you played so you can say "oh, I should have done this or that and that would have helped." It's basically just a lucky guess for the most part.
Stealth Elf is definitely the way to go. She had that one move (...um..I don't know what it is on other consoles) where she does the pirouette thing and rolls a bit. She seems to move fastest in that sense. As for getting rid of enemies, there's not many that are super hard to defeat; a fully upgraded SE should make quick work. The problem really is the puzzles you have to do. Like moving the blocks around so you can continue in the kart. What's rough is sometimes you'll hit the blocks sideways which make them go down another path, and can possibly make it so you have to rearrange everything.

Bash Is Possibly even better than stealth Elf Due to his Rolling Attack Causing Damage and excellent speed at the same time

Hmm. Possibly. That other path where Bash gets his roll attack upgrade might be good for moving, but then you also have to walk in some places, and Stealth Elf is still faster. (And she does damage when she rolls too, at least with the one upgrade path everyone basically picks)

You should use Bash Stealth Elf Zap or Ghost Roaster

The levels are not too long or too short.....but the time trials can be tough because you do not need to hunt for the hidden stuff.
Just run for the goal! Yes Yes....A timer in the game would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good point spyroflame0487

I think "speedruns" are a little bit different in Skylanders, Sonicbrawler, but thanks for your advice, anyway!
And thank you all for your advice; I'm going to try again this morning and see how I get on. I'll let you know if I manage it, then it's onto the Quicksilver Vault! EDIT: I just wanted to thank everyone for their help; I finally managed to get the speed run time! Here's my method: - I used Bash initially to get through the rocks at the beginning as it saved me time picking up a pickaxe (plus I could use his roll to get to the levers more quickly). - Afterwards, I used Drill Sergeant for his speed to push around the blocks, and also to get through the monster gates. - Finally, I used Stealth Elf on the first two minions (with Terrafin taking the reins for the spells in between). I used Drobot's lasers on Evil Eruptor, before switching back to Stealth Elf and the Pirate Swords item for the three-way battle. Hope this, and everyone else's brilliant advice, helps anyone else who might be stuck on this! |
