Some fans of Skylanders hate Skylanders now because Justin Beiber played it. smilie

I used to hate Skylanders, but then hated it more because of Boob Cynder.

Then I did my research since it bugged me.
-Saw gameplay
-Saw Spyro was Classic again
-Saw the many refrances
-Saw he didn't look half-bad in game

Just going "OMG THEY RUINED SPYRO!!!!!".
Then they end up liking/loving the game. *snorts*

Oh god. XD
It was your drawings and jokes that made me like her again.

Also, since Cynder is in a whole new scenario; I don't see any reason to not give her a chance. (Also, I just want the few female characters of this game. 'Cause i'm weird.)

I have to agree with that top part.
I remember being called "NOT A TRUE SPYRO FAN" since I liked the game at first.
Now that it's more popular than LoS, people can shut up about it killing Spyro (how the hell do pixels on a screen literally die, anyway?), since it's helping the Spyro series more than LoS did.

At least I'm different, I'm not a hater, and I've looked into the game and I just don't find it appealing to me at all. The whole toy concept seems more like a gimmick which will quickly get boring in a year or two, and I've got a feeling that they should have just had the characters on screen and yada yada yada. I'm just not bothered too much about it. There are probably other people who think the same but I haven't seen anyone express this type of opinion before unless I have over-looked it.

More or less someone might have said the same thing at one time or another. Or even a few more people. So I doubt you're alone. ^_^

Personally; I find that better than straight-up hating it for it's designs and the "Spyro is dead" thing.
I was honestly sort of "iffy" with the game because of buying the figures. But I still love it nonetheless.

Yep, you've overlooked it. The toys are a gimmick and it's no secret, but that hasn't stopped this from being a huge success. People like to collect things and this is the first time this sort of toy/game hybrid has been given so much thought and had so much good marketing put behind it (the toy/game hybrid has happened in the past but with considerably less effort put into it).

As many adults around my age have said, Skylanders isn't super interesting by itself to most of us, but the toys made us give it another look and we can recognize that, were we younger, we'd probably be crapping our pants in glee over it (because everyone in my generation not-so-secretly wished we could do this with our toys). Personally, I think Skylanders is an interesting stepping stone toward a more diverse future and I look forward to the franchise continuing (though hopefully with less ham-fisted marketing aimed at kids).

Is it a revolutionary game? Not by itself, no. Is it a great game? Again, not by itself. Did I think it would be before now? Nope. It has, in fact, been exactly what I thought it was going to be from the outset. Do I think most Spyro fans who whined about it are being sensationalist ninnies who jumped on a bandwagon? Heck yeah, I do. smilie

I'm not for one for collecting, all it does is clutter up the place. Most of that though seems to be your opinion so that doesn't really make much of a difference to me, by the way, I meant over-looking people with the same opinion as mine.

Which is what I said you had done. Tons of people feel the way you do about Skylanders (some of them bought the game anyone, some didn't). Any search for Skylanders on dA will bring up at least two or three journals expressing your thoughts.

I don't think all the reviews I've read that start with some variant of "if I were a kid, I'd love this game" written by 30-somethings count as my opinion, just to set the record straight. smilie Nor is that little detail that Skylanders is considerably more successful than Activision's highest hopes for the game, the constantly sold-out toys at every store across the US and abroad, or the horde of screaming Spyro fans who turned on a dime and bought the game they claimed to hate but now adore. smilie

There's a lot more to love about the game than just Spyro. I've been a fan of the series since 1998, and I don't even play the titular dragon in Skylanders. It's a vast and imaginative universe that would thrive equally well without him, based simply on what it is. At the end of the day, like his look or not, it's pointless to care about the way they designed Spyro. He's been better... he's certainly been worse. Whatever.

Same for me. Having entered into the void of being a new parent, I was completely unaware of Skylanders until it showed up on the shelf in front of me, with a Spyro figure included. If it had just been a game, we may have gotten it anyway based on the Portal of Power display in the store and how cool the concept seemed, but I would've been equally likely to assume the game would inevitably fail to impress despite the large investment. The Spyro name, chinks in the armor though there may be, is generally trustworthy for a positive experience, so I was a lot more assured I wouldn't be wasting my money by the presence of that purple dragon figurine staring back at me from the package.

Nope.
I've seen what's been done in Skylanders before tons of times (even the toy concept has been done before). In fact, the game mechanics are strikingly similar to Castle Crashers, only worse, and with a less charming art style. Right down to the fact that in Castle Crashers, gold is money, and food serves as health pick-ups.

I don't agree with you really. I think a mythological world suits a dragon, and I can understand that it doesn't matter about Spyro's design that much, but it would be nice if they at least try to make him look more dragon-like rather than lizard-like, he just looks really too skinny now, lol. I agree that he's been better and been worse, but that's like everything else right? Even bands are like that, they go through a bad patch of music and go through a good patch of music.

Which is why I say the toy concept has been done before. And many games can do similar things already. Heck, in a ScrewAttack interview about Skylanders, one of the reps for Skylanders compared the concept of bringing toys to your friend's house to retain your stats to bringing your Xbox 360 hard drive over to a friend's house to play Call of Duty with all your stats and save data intact. If anything, the toy concept is really a downgrade of existing benefits that this generation of consoles already offers to many games and players.

Interesting.

Here's the way I see it -

Castle Crasher = a bootleg (but still fun) TMNT, TMNT: Turtles in Time, Bucky O'Hare, X-Men, Simpsons.

Skylanders = Gauntlet on steroids. Other games to compare the play style to: Champions of Norrath, Diablo, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy/Seven Sorrows and even Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. 32 characters instead of 4-6. Physical objects to own and play with.

I don't remember buying toys to bring to life in my games, and I've been gaming since I got my first gaming system... in 1986 (NES; ie Nintendo). Had there been something like this before, I would have been the first to own it.

The closest thing I can remember buying physically, that comes to life on the screen, was Eye of Judgment on PS3. Different game, different concept. There was no cross-platform play. The cards don't remember what they've done from game experience.

You're talking to a person who buys into ALL innovations in gaming. When Steel Battalion launched in 2002, I was there to plop 200 bucks on it. If you don't know what that game is, here -

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmw.../SteelBattalion

When Guitar Hero launched, I was there. Same goes for the E-Reader and all of the Super Mario Advance E-Reader cards, DJ Hero, Rock Band (thanks to introducing drums) and Eye of Judgment on PS3 and all of its cards (well 95% of the entire collection).

I simply haven't seen Skylanders done before. I think it's simple gaming done better than other simple games. Simple games are sometimes better to play, than all the games of today.

Dang it. Now I want Traveler's Tales to release a new Lego game, where you bring minifigures to life. GRRR!
