I might be getting this game soon, and I'm not sure which console to get it on. I have Wii, Xbox360, Ps3 and 3DS so its kinda hard to choose

Sigh...
Everyone disses the wireless portals but if there is nothing wrong with your portal (and if there is, get it replaced) then the batteries last a long, long time. I know people who don't like the wired portal as their XBox is not close enough to them when they play and they have to get up all of the time to swap chars. The game was designed on the Wii and then ported so the Wii gives the colours exactly like the designers intended. Sure, the graphics will be a touch smoother on PS3 or XBox but it will be the same polygon count (as opposed to a game designed for another console and then "dumbed down" a tad to work on the Wii). I always find Wii games to be a bit cheaper than the others, as well. That said, buy whatever you use the most, I guess. Note: The 3DS game is a different game to the "console" ones so you may decide you like that gameplay better? I am told that the game on 3DS is not as long so you will get less playability out of it? Or you may decide to get a console version and the 3DS one, haha.

Whilst I own all versions except PC, I honestly still say Wii.
But chaosworrier has the best answer to your question. |

It all depends on what you're looking for.
Reimu is right; the issue of wired versus wireless portals should be the deciding factor for you between the PS3 and 360 versions. The Wii version has some fun control aspects, and thanks to the button layout, certain characters (Looking at you, Gill Grunt!) are easier to control and therefore more powerful. However, this does not make up for the noticeable lack of polish compared to the 360/PS3 versions, and I would not recommend it. This brings us to the issue of the portal. Wireless ones are more convenient--you can summon your Skylanders from across the room, or as Vhraina and I like to do, from the comfort of our bed, under the covers and surrounded by pillows. Yes, you pay for it in batteries, but it's a lot comfier, so I prefer wireless. However, it DOES run through batteries very quickly. Not like an old Sega Game Gear, but not all that much better either. If a consistent supply of batteries is in question for you, get 360. If not, get PS3. As for the 3DS version, there are a lot of reasons to get that one in addition to whichever console pack you choose. The gameplay is completely different, and a lot closer to classic Spyro with a few RPG elements interspersed. Also, it's no contest, the starting characters in the 3DS one DESTROY the ones from the console versions in terms of overall usefulness. Vanilla Spyro is okay, albeit a little less stylish than the 3DS Dark Spyro, but Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy are average at best compared to the game-breaking Stealth Elf and (currently) 3DS exclusive Ignitor, who is by leagues the game's dominant Fire Skylander. If you can get both, do. If not, the console version offers the more complete Skylanders experience, even if it is at the expense of better figures. |

PC and 3DS! I can definitely understand the benefits to having a wireless portal. As mentioned earlier, I too play this game with the lady friend from the comfort of the bed, but we have to stretch across the room to swap characters. We've even thought of getting one of those Dinosaur Chomper things, the long stick that has a dinosaur head on the end of it, and when you pull the trigger the dinosaur opens and shuts its mouth.
For those of you that haven't played the 3DS version, I would definitely recommend it. The 3DS version is just as great as the console!

Good choice! I went with PS3 (because I preferred it to Wii, my other current-gen console), and 3DS for the different game experience, but I prefer training Skylanders on the console because you don't get any of the console-version abilities when you train them on the 3DS.

Just to slap myself with self-effacing rod of irony, I will now also pick up an XBox copy of the game.
I just bought an XBox 360 in a sale. However, I think I will wait for after XMas as I expect/hope will be cheaper then? Fingers crossed!

I'd definitely go for the 360 version, the wired portal decreases chance of mess ups, the only problem is changing the characters, and having to reach over to change them...

I got a Wii, PS3 and Xbox. Controls seem to be better implemented on the Wii (opening treasures or when shooting at the screen for example), but I wanted better graphics. Not that the Wii version has bad graphics, but I preferred the graphics of the HD consoles. Deciding between the Xbox and PS3 I got it for PS3 cause of the wireless portal.

See, the control scheme is what put me off of the Wii one. I can imagine the whole "shaking" thing would get tedious after a while.
I found that my friend's 360 portal messed up more than my PS3 portal. |

In the other context of "a while", you only have to shake to open chests/door/rocks, so a majority of your gameplay is the same as the other consoles with the sporadic fun bit of shaking open presents and a simple motion to open a gate and breaking rocks. In fact, if/when I "mature" to the XBox version, I will miss those components.

Regardless of which version you go with for console, I HIGHLY recommend the 3DS for one reason: the play style of Dark Spyro. I really wish they would have done something different on the console version of him because he is by far one of the most fun to play on 3DS.

We played PS3 first, and I suppose that could also be the reason the Wii control scheme didn't appeal. The initial experience is most often the one that sticks, and for me, the simplicity of jostling the right analog stick to crack open treasures is preferable. Using the Wiimote just seemed unwieldy for me, after having already earned all the trophies on PS3 prior to ever trying the Wii version and, in the process, becoming complacent with that style of control. Really, either motion control is up your alley or it's not. There's no absolutes here, no right or wrong; it's just preference, and as with everything else, that should be your measuring stick when deciding on a version of Skylanders. |

I know what you mean! Initially with Wii games, I would have probably tolerated it for quite a while, but I've become somewhat abhorrent to games that have motion controls for the sake of having them. |

I unwrapped the Xbox this evening and have started playing some Lego games that I originally played on the Wii.
As my entire console experience has been previously based on Wii usage, it is weird for me not to waggle a control now and then to get things done. Sure, the graphics are better but I do miss the added interactivity.

The battery problem is easily solved by getting rechargeables. After the first couple of battery changes, I went this route. The wireless portal remains close to my kids allowing them to change figures often (which they do). With how the portal sucks up batteries, the rechargeables will more than pay for themselves.

Wires limit it more so,and get tangled in stuff.

The Wii is awarded 1000 points because of the Ruins Money Glitch.
Honestly though, in a higher resolution I don't see much difference. I've played it on the PS3 before but...eh...I dunno. Just looks the same to me.

dunno what experience you have with tvs and consoles... but the wii have the same picture quality as the ps2 that was released in 2000 and never had hd support... the wii was released in 2006 without hd support... this means it only gives you a 480 picture resolution with more blur and less details... like the ps2. what you should look with the ps3 is not the textures but the graphic/vector lines of the game |
