Should I buy Zap or Sonic Boom?

"I can't decide. Help? Which one is better? I may be getting the wii version of SL with the three starters but I can't decide between Zap and Sonic Boom as an extra character... Which one is more epic? I have watched the trailers for them both.
Sonic Boom is cute but it seems to have limited attacks (the roar and the babies).
But I love how Zap does the water and electric thing...

Anyone know which is stronger/has the most interesting attacks/cutest?

Okay, but whats good about her and why?

Sonic Boom: She has a very powerful sonic boom attack, and the fact that the hatchlings are there decreasing the enemy's health is really helpful. I chose the path that upgrades the babies and I regret it, having a more powerful sonic boom attack i think would be way better then having babies that do a bit more damage then usual.

Zap: his main attack is shooting a little lightning bolt that doesnt do all that much damage, and your secondary attack is to slide on water which other then dodging enemy's attacks isnt too useful for anything at the beginning, but once you upgrade him you can electrify the path of water you left behind, also it slows them while they are walking in it so its good for bosses if you can trap them in a water path then electrify it and spam your lightning bolt attack, or after you get another upgrade that allows you to shoot waves at enemy's, the waves does a good amount of damage. I later chose to upgrade my wave attack path and the waves are then automatically electrified and do A LOT of damage.

I have read that quite a bit of people like to play with sonic boom as their favourite character, so I bought her later that week. She was really fun to play with at first but then i got bored with her constant same attack, it gets old repeating it after time after time, her third attack is to fly like most other characters with wings. I personally prefer to use zap as he can be just as quick as Sonic Boom and do just as much as damage in a funner way. but maybe if you chose to upgrade the sonic boom path of sonic boom it might have a better turn out.

I'd say to go with Sonic Boom just to even out the elements a bit; if you get the console starter, you'll already have a very good Water character in Gill Grunt.

i would go for sonic boom her 'roar' attacks are good and she is a fast flyer..

and remember that one of each elements is important... you get more places to explore to find hats/chests/scrolls/soulsgems. the totem pole you can shoot down and you benefit from the character is stronger in different areas of the game...

Go with Sonic Boom Zap is water and the wii comes with gill grunt a good water.

I prefer Zap for his upgraded water slide thingy which is more useful than Sonic Boom's babies (at any level).

But I prefer Sonic Boom's ability to fly and get around stages much faster.

Why not get both??? Buy one and ask for one for Christmas???

I much prefer Zap just because there are a bunch of "hey your upgrade is now you fly!" characters and instead of flying he slides around on sea slime and then electrocutes it; now that is one hell of a way to get around!

Plus I also just prefer the way Zap looks.

It kind of depends on how you want to play the game and what you like in a character. Sonic Boom is hands down a more powerful figure than Zap... it's not even close. As far as attacking goes, Sonic Boom's babies can be fun to use, but otherwise you mainly just mash the primary attack with her.

Zap takes a little more skill and finesse to use. His ranged attack is pretty weak, but the sea-slime is fun and makes him one of the quickest characters in the game.

I like them both, but for very different reasons. If I could only have one, I would take Sonic Boom.

This, so much. Sonic Boom is overrated in terms of power, IMHO.

Zap. Electricity slide stuns enemies and his damage can be done both up close (slides) and far away (lightning). Sliding is significantly faster and easier for getting around than flying.

I agree with Rad Spyro that Sonic Boom (solo) is over-rated. I've done both paths for her and they are both lacking compared to most of the other 20 Skylanders I own at level 10.

I like both characters but I use Zap more for his slime attack plus I prefer his upgrades over Sonic Boom's. If you don't have Whirlwind yet, then I would recommend Sonic Boom so you can have one character in the air element but if you already have her then get Zap.

Agreed. I think Sonic Boom's overrated in general.

Anyway, I think Zap's a faster character if you have a need for speed.
If you love characters who can fly, Sonic Boom.

How much power they have is more of an opinion; though I think Zap's more powerful.

Well, I've read all of these and I can't decide between them and I think I am just going to get them both! Yup I love flying, and water + elecricity = Total awesomeness. So, thanks for the help! Unless there is a cooler flying SL then I will get SB and Zap :3

I know you're probably decided already, but I just need to make a point about SB and Zap since I own them both.

SB's flight is very, very smooth. However, she is very, very overrated. If you want a fun experience in which you gain EXP from killing monsters, then don't buy her. Her babies, fully upgraded, will do most of the work for you. I find that while she offers so much power, she lacks in the qualities of fun.

Zap, however, is one of the few who can shoot Lightning. He is a better option than Gill and is pretty fun overall. His Sea Slides are very, very handy since in one way or another, it WILL paralyze enemies.

Honestly, you're right in getting them both.

you should get all the Skylanders

I can't get all of the skylanders Magic, I can't afford it. And my Mum isn't going to buy me any for Christmas either(She thinks they are pointless if the game already comes with characters).

And thank you, DragonHope. I think I am leaning more towards Zap now. But I still have until after Christmas to decide, since I probably won't get SL before then.

In that case, I would personally vye towards Sonic Boom so that I could cover another element.

^ If you aren't going to purchase Whirlwind then get Zap but if you're just going to have the three that come with the game for a while, then get Sonic Boom so you can have an additional element.

^ Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Then you should choose Sonic Boom for now so you can have an air elemental.

Edit: Drobot is also another helpful character. If you don't have him than you might want to get him in the future. If you want to get a life character, then get Stealth Elf.

Back to the topic: I would buy both of them (and I did ) but if I had to decide I woud buy Sonic Boom cuz on the console versions you already have Gill. So you can use him to open the elemental portals and then change to another Skylander. I went the same way and bought Sonic Boom and Drobot with the game and Zap was not available in the stores. So I just used Gill to open the Water portals till I got Zappy

If you think you can wait until they all release to reach all the parts in the game =)

If you're going with characters that haven't been released yet then I would definitely take Slam Bam as my water type. I won't know for sure until I get a chance to play with him, but being able to freeze enemies looks really cool, and I like his ice slide.

Plus, you'll get an expansion with him!

Expansion?

He's one of the characters that is released as an "Adventure Pack", which means you'll get a whole new level with him, along with some helpful magic items.

My picks....

Air- Sonic Boom
Life- Stealth Elf (very very fast!)
Undead - Cynder
Earth - Terrafin (can go under ground, funny too)
Fire- Sunburn
Water- Gill grunt
Magic - Spyro
Tech- Trigger Happy

If you're going strictly for strength, I'd get the following list.

Magic: You'll do fine with just your starter Spyro, since money is an object. He's a great character, and the only better magic elements are the Spyro variants.

Earth: Terrafin is the best one, by far. Also, he comes with Pirate Seas, an expansion that I would recommend to anyone since it comes with arguably the best melee hat in the game, and the most useful magic item in the Dragon Chest. Plus, the level is fun!

Water: Zap on his Slime Serpent build is going to be superior to your starter Gill Grunt, but not by so far that you can't just use Gill. Consider Slam Bam if he is out by Christmas; Empire of Ice will enhance your overall game more than any single-pack Water character.

Fire: Flameslinger is the best option for the price-conscious shopper. Plus, he comes in a three-pack with Drobot, who I'm about to recommend for Tech!

Tech: Drobot. One of the best characters in the game, easily the best Tech Skylander.

Undead: While we could argue until the cows come home about whether Ghost Roaster is superior to Hex or vice verca, Ghost Roaster comes with the Darklight Crypt expansion--an excellent value that will enhance your overall game, again, more than a single figure.

Wind: Whether Sonic Boom is better than Whilrwind is truly a matter of opinion, and depends greatly on playstyle. Pick which of the two you like more, and be happy knowing that the other isn't markedly better.

Life: Stealth Elf is pretty much always going to be the best Life Skylander, even after Camo and Zook are released. With the way the character works, there's really no way around that--her brokenness is a game mechanics issue, and won't be surmountable by future releases.

But if character power really isn't an issue to you, the game is easily beatable by any roster, and you can always just have fun playing the ones you like. Drobot is far better, but I still prefer Drill Sergeant when I sit down to do things with the Tech element. Personal preference is not meaningless.
