First post. I've purchased the ps3 starter kit, and I'm picking up the remaining characters as I find them online or in the stores. I haven't started playing yet, this is a Christmas gift to myself. My question: how many of you have purchased the 3ds version just for the characters? I'm thinking about doing this myself, but without a 3ds and no interest whatsoever in purchasing one, can I get any use out of the portal? I do not want to sell all but the characters on Ebay, not worth the hassle IMO. So for those of you who have done this, what are you doing with what is leftover? Thanks.

Well I picked up the 3D's version not just for the Characters and mini portal....but I also bought a 3D's system too! So I could actually play it's version of Skylanders! My Christmas gift from me to me!!! lol You can use the smaller portal for your PC?

i got the 3ds version because i wanted the dark spyro and ignitor.. the mini portal work with the pc version of skylanders and the pc flash game. it also work with the ps3, you have to connect it with the usb cable. so what your getting is a extra mini portal and 3 more figurines and even a poster with dark spyro included in the magic element... the game you can keep if you find a cheap used 3ds a couple years later.. that was my plan...

I dont have a 3DS but i was thinking of getting one just so i could get this game, but i already bought stealth elf and REALLY dont want another one so im waiting for either a reduced price for the game or a new set of starter characters for the 3DS

Whoever bought the 3DS verison just for the toys has too much money on their hand, and a possible obsession with collecting the toys, especially when the only exclusive toy is simply a recolor of a toy that's in the console version you probably already have.

I purchased the 3DS version of the game first and beat it the day after I obtained it. The game is too short for the price and doesn't have much to it. The other versions of the game are far better and have a lot more replay value. This is only my opinion, you guys might like the game but it's not one of my favorites. I would give it a seven out of a ten rating.

thank-you OpalOsprey, I now think that I will just wait for when the price drops to get the 3DS version. and I agree with CAV about the dark spyro thing, the only character of value that I would get for getting the 3DS version of the game is ignitor becuase overall he looks like a cool character to use.

See, I found what I've played of the 3DS one enjoyable so far; I'd even say it's reminiscent of playing a PSOne/N64-era platformer game. I didn't charge straight through the game; rather I play it for bursts of five or so crystals at a time so I can continue to enjoy it for longer.
I wouldn't buy the game just for the characters, but you could always sell the game on eBay as long as you make it known that people will need to purchase at least two characters to play the game. |

I have the 3DS version since friday. The mini portal is pretty handful to play on the flash game (it's small and takes less space than the X360 one).

First, I thought of getting Dark Spyro as a single from ebay. But I really like the gameplay from the 3DS, so I decided to buy the whole game. I wouldn't have bought it just for the charakters. My friend even sold me her 3DS since she didn't need it at all.
I have the PS3 version too and the wireless portal was kinda... difficult to use with the webgame. The 3DS portal has a usb cable and works really fine with my pc. |

its about priority and not about how much money you have. buy the game live on soup for 7 days... everyone can do that... obsession can be so many things, some have a obsession with smoking.... others collecting stuff. you pick yours. i am glade i stopped smoking, now i can use my money on other things and live longer... |

A hard worker can choose on what he wants to spend money. I work 72 hours per week each summer, 40 to 50 hours per week for the rest of the year. I think I have the right to choose to spend money on Skylanders or not =) If it makes me happy!

Also agreeing with the above.
As long as it makes someone happy, why not? |

Thanks for all the replies. Kmart has a sale on the 3ds starter pack this week: $59.99. I have a$20 video gaming coupon from a previous purchase so it will actually cost me $40. I think since I "need" all 3 characters included in the starter pack, that's not a bad deal. To purchase the 3 characters from ebay would cost me close to $80 I believe.

That's why I'm waiting for a serious price drop before ever touching it. I'm willing to wait a year or so to get it. Quote: Seth727
And even then, Ignitor will be sold separately soon enough. Quote: kappapopm
It kinda is about how much money you have, since you wouldn't be able to buy so many figures if you didn't have money. My obsession is gaming as a whole. But even I know when to buy a game close to release, and when to just wait for it to become cheaper. I don't have a whole lot of money (if ever), and I can never seem to find a small job that pays even just $3 each hour. I can't afford to go and spend money I don't have, on toys for a game that I may have beaten by the time I get the character. That's why Cynder is the only toy I intend to get that isn't Life or Fire (since those are the elements I'm missing). But maybe that's just me and my bad luck. |

Okay, I was one of those people who bought the 3DS version simply for the figs. I already had Stealth Elf and I had a spare Eruptor so re-sold the portal with those two figs.
I was actually slightly tempted to by a 3DS to play thay version but not tempted enough. And, yes, the 3DS portal makes a fine portal for PC connectivity.
