Chapter 1
Orphan
I lay in the cold of a blizzard, ice spitting down every passage. Each creature was huddled down in the ice of the storm, hoping and hoping. I didn't hope, I couldn't think, my head throbbed and my body felt blistered with the cold. Then, everyone peering out from their cave, a warm orange glow glided across the hills. Ignitus had come.
I pathetic throaty cheer came from the caves, our voices rasped. Ignitus flew down and took in breath, then a giant burst of flame soared out from his jaws and every bit of ice melted into meek slushy water.
I saw blurs of blue and yellow and green as the other guardians rushed into caves rescuing the other shivering creatures.
I wasn't sure I liked the guardians, they were too popular for my liking.
The snow was caving over my face, I was only small, the size of a little boulder, and very skinny. I'd been living off scraps of meat that the death hounds left after they hunted.
"Is that everyone?" Ignitus called, then wandered into my cave, the other guardians followed. They couldn't see me under the snow.
I tried to wriggle, cough, shout, anything! But I was too weak. I summoned all the power I could muster, then gave a feeble "Keh!"
Volteer turned round, then dusted away the snow where I lay.
"Ignitus! A young child lays here, the ice must have fallen over him so we were unable to sight him," Volteer cried.
Ignitus picked me up and placed me in a small basket.
"Is this anyone's child?" he called.
"He's Haster and Karline's child, but no one's seen 'em much, we suggested that they were being kept busy with 'im," someone replied.
"Well this child looks like it hasn't eaten in months, he'll need a home," Ignitus announced.
"Ignitus, you're not suggesting..." Cyril said.
"No, no we cannot look after him," Ignitus whispered.
"Give him here," a young female said gently.
She looked at me in the basket, she had big lilac eyes outlined in gentle thin lashes, with cream white horns and sky-blue scales.
"He's purple, Missy," a male, emerald dragon whispered.
"So what?" the female said.
Missy and Karlet became my 'parents', I never felt I belonged with them, my true place consisted of a bronzed rock temple with a proud statue inside where four guardians, red, yellow, blue, green, rested.

Chapter 2
10 Years Later
It had been ten years since I became the 'child' of Missy and Karlet. I didn't feel normal around them, or anyone. I was bullied a lot by the other dragons because I didn't have an element, I couldn't fly and I was just generally usless in battle.
I was a problem child as I got older, getting angrier, even Missy got annoyed with me.
Missy was the gentlist dragon in the world, so kind she made your heart melt. I never loved her as a mother though, I thought of her as a friend. Karlet was quite rough to me, I didn't like him much, as a father or a friend.
At ten years old was the Big Iccident. Jamex was the bully I hated most.
"Hello hello, Useless, collecting berries for mummy?" Jamex cackled, creeping up on me.
I felt my skin burning under my purple scales, I was getting berries for Missy.
"My name is Malefor," I hissed, turning round clutching the berries so hard their skin split and the juice flooded out. "And Missy isn't my mum."
"Oh yues, diddums, I got no mummy and no daddy boo hoo, I'm so useless because I can breath anything and I'm rubbish at flying too, wahh wahh little baby diddums."
"I can fly," I lied.
"No you can't," spat Jamex.
"Yes I can, creep, watch," I hissed, though my heart was thumping as I couldn't fly a bit.
I crawled up a tree, crouched down, hoping for a miricle, leapt off the trunk and flapped my wings wildly. I hovered for two seconds maximum, then my wings stopped and I tumbled to the floor with a terrible crunch.
Jamex was shrieking with laughter.
"You call that flying!?!?!? Jesus Christ, you're PATHETIC! You can't do ANYTHING, you're just a stupid little wimp who is useless! Useless useless useless! If you'd never been born we'd not even have noticed the difference!"
My throat was stinging, I knew what this meant, finally.
"You would," I croaked.
"No I wouldn't, creep."
"Yes you would," I hissed. "Cause if I wasn't born it won't happen to you."
"What?"
"This!"
I spat ferociously, expecting flames to fire out of my mouth, but instead a enormous beam of crashing purple fired out of my mouth, hit Jamex in the chest with the force of eight battering rams. He smashed into the wall and I could hear several of his bones shattering.
I looked at his lolling head and bleeding mouth and gasped at what I'd done. Crackles of purple surrounded me, fizzling a little like after a fury.
I couldn't go back and explain to Missy, she'd hang her head and cry because she hated people getting hurt and she hoped so badly she'd done right by me...Karlet would get really angry and shout at me...but if I couldn't ask my 'family' what this breath was, who could I ask?
I gazed at the dragon guardian temple on the hills, golden in the bronzed sunlight of evening.
It were almost as if it were fate.

Chapter 3
Temple
I was still unable to fly...and the temple was doll-size on the hills. I tried to run but the grass was so thick and tufty around my ankles I could barely move an inch. I had to wade through it all.
Half an hour passed and I'd only moved two meters, the grass spiralling above my head was lathered in pollon, it drifted down, making me itch. My throat tickled, as if I had a cough. I gave a sneeze.
It happened again. A thin jet of purple glided out from my throat, cutting the grass so quick that it was burning as it drifted to the floor. I ran through the path marked by my weird breath, until I reached the hill that the temple rested on. The grass was even wilder now, rasping the leaves of the odd tree that was dotted on the hills.
I was sort of getting used to using my breath, beginning to understand how it worked. When I got angry, my throat would tickle, then I'd have to spit and it would fly out of my mouth. But instead of using the breath, I exesised my claws, cutting the grass with them. It was too hard, I only got rid of a few green cinders. Why did I expect that as soon as I'd discovered my element I would instantly turn into Superman?
Because I smashed Jamex's face in?
Because it was an entirely new element?
I spat again, but it didn't work, my throat wasn't right for it.
I slumped to the floor, sniffing with the pollon. I dug my claws into my side in my anger, my eyes narrowing, head thumping, thinking so hard about my freaky element that I didn't realise that my claws had created a huge gash on my side.
"Ouch..." I hissed, then realised that my claws were actually capable of cutting through my scales.
I turned round and began to flail my arms deturmindly, I wasn't much better, but I started to get in a groove and slice the grass like silk.
I reached the temple, stopping so suddenly I banged my chin against the floor, it was scalped to the earth around the enormous temple.
I ran up to the door and rapped hard on the wood. Although my hands were curled into fists my claws were still out and shredded some of the crimson paint of the weird door. It was circular, with a golden plate in the middle. The gold plate was divided into four sections, with pictures carved on them. It had a flare of flame in one quater, a bolt of lightning at the right of it, an icicle in another section and then a root coated in leaves on the forth quater.
The temple really was enormous, with huge rooms and vast tunnels twisting this way and that. There were turret like rooms and a big dome roof.
Before he'd even taken a look at who was at the door, a blue dragon with a pointed face started speaking.
"Look, if you're another dippy dragon selling windows we don't want any," he said. I recognised him as Cyril. "Well, what do you wa- OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE DOOR!?!?" He stared furiously at the criss-cross scratches.
I burst into my I-am-here-because explanation.
"I'm Malefor. You might not remember me but I'm the orphan dragon cub you found in the Ice Storm of 62. It was a blizzard and I was curled up in a cave covered with snow. Volteer found me as I gave a cough. I am the origanal child of Haster and Karline but I was adopted by Missy and Karlet, a young dragon couple with no cubs of their own," I announced awkwardly, like I was reading aloud.
Cyril stared at me, one eyebrow raised.
"Come in," he muttered.

Chapter 4
Convexity
I scuffled in behind Cyril through the tiny crack in the door. I was led

down a long passage, several curled doors on the walls. It was

amazing when we got to the first room, golden stone floors and

bronzed walls with a small emerald pool whirling slowly in the middle of

the room.

"It's brilliant!" I gasped.

"Hmm," Cyril muttered. "Ignitus, Volteer, Terrador, Calaknight, Airess!"

Several Guardians walking, Ignitus, Volteer and Terrador I knew, but

there were two guardians I'd never seen before. They were both

female and young adults. One was glossy black, with a slender body

and long, strong bony legs with a pointed face and two marble white

horns on her head. Her claws were thick and chunky, her wings sleek

coal black with flaps of blood red wing-skin. The underside of her

stomach and her long pointed tail were dark red. She had several silver

cuffs prised on her wrists and ankles and tail. She looked evil.

Maybe she had my element.

The other one certainly didn't. She had pale blue scales and a rather

thin body. (though not as thin as the black dragon) She had fluffy white

wings and milky white horns that were slightly bent.

"This is Malefor, he was the orphan cub we found in the blizzard of 62,
he was adopted by Missy and Karlet Beet," said Cyril.

"Ah, yes, I remember," Ignitus announced calmly.

There was a pause.

"Well whatcha want?" said the black dragon. She slapped her
forehead. "Look, you dragged me out of training, why?"

"I found my element," I said.

"Big whoop-te-do, lots of kids find their elements," the black dragon sighed.


"No, it's purple sort of beam, I don't know what it is, does anyone have an abbility like that?"

They looked blank.

"I have fire, Volteer is electric, Cyril is ice, Terrador is earth, Calaknight
is shadow and Airess is wind," Ignitus said. "Could you demonstrate?"

"Well, I sort of have to be angry," I explained.

"He's lying," Calaknight spat.

"I'm not!" I hissed.

"You are," Calaknight seemed to wink her red eye. She stretched her long black legs. "Show us the breath if you're telling the truth!"

"I can't!"

"See! You're totally wasting our time!"

"No!" I spat, and a jet of purple light flew out of my mouth, crashing through the golden wall and burning the vines. Calaknight looked taken aback.

Ignitus clapped his paw to his mouth.

"This...My Guardians, is none other than....Convexity..."

Chapter 5
Different
"Convexity?!" the other Guardians said at once.

"Yes," Ignitus said calmly. "It appears so."

"What's convexy?" I asked.

"Convexity, child, is the strongest element known to Dragonkind. No dragon in the world has been able to summon it," Ignitus said.

"Someone must have, otherwise you wouldn't know of it," I corrected him.

"Wrong. It hasn't been summoned as an element, it is an abbility that only very strong dragons gain when using all of their power. After using it their power is drained for a matter of months," Ignitus said. "Tell me, Malefor, do you feel weak? How many times have you used Convexity in what space of time?"

"I don't feel weak, and I've used convex-whaty three times in...about an hour and a quater?"

"Remarkable," Cyril said.

They were all staring at me in disbelief, like I was really special. I

figeted, not liking the attention. I was beginning to regret coming.

"What is?" I asked.

"Oh wake up, genius!" Calaknight hissed. "You are the only dragon in the world to have convexity as an element! You're different!"

Chapter 6
Fire Breath
It was all very hectic those next few days. I was allowed to stay and

they started training me, trying to figure out my breath and teaching me

the basics of Melee, and Calaknight taught me that, and she was

brilliant. But the stuff they taught me. One quick swipe and

Jamex would go flying.

My abbility to amaze them expanded further. Ignitus was trying to get

me to use my Convexity breath on some targets, they were hexed

dummies that were floppy with blobby faces. I often just leapt into the

air and kicked them in the face.

"No Malefor, use your breath," Ignitus would hiss impatiently.

"I can't!" I said angrily. "You know I need to be angry."

Ignitus nodded...but not at me.

"Well come on then, Boy Wonder," Calaknight hissed, lunging out from
a corner and flexing her shockingly thin body. "Show us what you got!"

"Bring it!" I said, smirking.

I leapt towards Calaknight and whipped her with my tail, only she

hooked her own tail round my leg and pulled me to the floor.

"Ha! Come on then, if your so special, hit me!" Calaknight cackled.

I leapt up and smacked her hard, only she blocked me, locked horns

and pinned me to the floor.

"Calaknight," Ignitus said uncomfortably.

"What?!"

She was looking away.

I felt crystal energy surge through my body, making me shiver. I leapt

up and slashed her with my claws quick as lightning. I whirled out of her

way and used complex Melee moves upon her that she hadn't even

taught me. I shook my head and blew hard.

But it wasn't convexity.

A burst of scarlet flames flew out of my mouth and singed Calaknight.

The other Guardians wandered in and gawped.

"Right you little creep! You're gonna pay for that!" Calaknight had barely noticed my new element.

"Oh my! Was that Fiya?" cried Airess, she had a light french accent.

"Yes Airess," Terrador said, astonished. "This dragon has summoned two elements..."

"I don't care if he's summoned the bloody periodic table! He's gonna pay!" Calaknight screamed.

"Be quiet! Do sou not see? Theis is thee first deragon to summon two eliments!" Airess cried.

The all stared at me, they looked like they thought I was playing a trick

on them. Cyril looked uncomfortable, like he didn't like to be beaten.

Calaknight was giving me death looks, and like she wanted to chuck me

into a pit with the Death Hounds, but the other Guardians were looking

at me like I was their God. I liked this, sort of.

Ignitus was astonished, though he wasn't showing it.

"Indeed Airess, you, Malefor, are more special than you realise..."

Chapter 7
The Vision

Everyone was crowded around me. The exciting babble carried on for

half and hour. The Guardians kept saying that I was the first dragon

ever to summon two elements, the first dragon to summon Convexity,

and I was truly amazing. They were all saying 'Remarkable', even

Calaknight muttered it.

I was led into the first room, the one with the swirly emerald pool at the

centre. Ignitus steered me over to it.

"Look and tell us what you see," he said.

I bent my head over it and gazed into the swirls of green liquid. I

waited a minute.

Nothing happened.

"I can't see anything," I whispered.

But then something took form. A powerful dragon with spiked scales

and gold eyes. He was surrounded with whirls of fire, electricity, ice,

earth, air, shadow...and Convexity... There was an immense ape next

to him, with glowing eyes and bulky shoulders. Then bellow him, was a

black egg.

I looked at the dragon again.

He had my scales.

He had my eyes.

He had my element.

I saw armies of apes, a room of a temple - this temple - with dragon

eggs smashed into shards on the floor. I saw a terrible field of energy

guarding this wicked dragon.

It was me.

"No!" I shouted, tearing my eyes away from the pool and charging out of the temple.

I flew down the lush grass. I had summoned the abbility of flight now. I

glided down the grassy hill and into the shady forest.

I ran away, past tree trunks and through dead leaves, I blew hard with

my new fire-breath, burning the grass, until I felt someone grab my tail

and pull hard.

"Whatcha doin'!" he hissed.

I turned round and saw a golden ape of about my age. It was like I'd

seen him before. He had leathery black hands with hooked fingers, they

hurt with him pinching my skin.

"Ow, get off," I said.

"What were you doing? Me Ma is dead worried, she thought a maniac was crawling through the forest." the ape hesitated. "You dragons are maniacs, burning the place down."

"We're not," I protested. "I was running away, anyway."

"From?"

"That's none of your buisness," I said, sticking my chin out.

"Well, who are you?"

"I'm Malefor, I'm the first dragon in the world to summon two elements, one of which is convexity."

I couldn't resist boasting. A few minutes ago those words would

have tasted like honey on my tongue, but now they tasted of rot.

"You what, that's cool, but a total lie," the ape said.

"It's not."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Anyway, I'm Gaul."

I resented his disbelief, but I quite liked him.

Chapter 8
Gaul

"So, Gaul, what's your story?" I asked.

"What was it you said? 'That's none of your buisness'" Gaul hissed.

"Sorry, I should go," I said.

"Where?"

"The temple."

"Really?"

"Yes, I'm living there for the moment, they're training me," I said.

"I need to get my big bro Chan to meet ya. He's got a big crush on that Calaknight, he's always rabbiting on about how gorgeous she is, is it true?"

"You'd like her if you looked at her, but she's a seriously grouchy brat," I said.

"Perhaps not then," Gaul said.

He turned around and leapt away without so much as a 'See ya later'.

I turned round and flew off, but I was starting to feel sick about going

back, my stomach felt all tense and rigid and jerky.

The icy wind in my face was sickening. I clamped my jaws shut and my

head throbbed, and then collapsed in mid-air. I tumbled into a tangle of

lush tree leaves, they were cold and soothing, like nature lending a

helping hand.

I heard a shouting, sounding so forlorn and heartbroken. A dragon

calling.

"Malefor! Please baby!"

Huh?

What?

Missy!

I so so wanted to fly out of the leaves to meet her again, wishing to

have her look after me and keep me safe, But I knew if she found me

she'd never let me go. I heard someone else yell, only they sounded

impatient.

"Malefor, come on! You've been out here for hours and Ignitus is getting ratty! Malefor!" the dragon shouted with her enormously loud mouth.

It was Calaknight, requested to search for me, obviously not pleased

about it.

"Will you dragons shut up!" Gaul yelled from a nest-like tree.

"Don't you tell me to shut up you little creep," Calaknight shouted.

"Who are you?" I heard Missy ask.

Oh no.

My pains had come back, but I just clutched the cold leaves of the tree

tight, wishing I could freeze time for ever and ever.

I opened my eyes.

The leaves had stopped, the air had frozen, Calaknight was poised on

the ground crawling over to Missy, Gaul's fist was jammed poking out of

a tree.


Time had frozen.

Chapter 9
Missy

"Wha?"

I crawled out of the tree, and landed on the gritty floor. I waved my

paw in front of Calaknight's face and flicked her left temple. She didn't

so much as flinch.

"I don't like this," I murmered.

My voice sounded awfully hollow in this timeless world. I shook my head.

Unfreeze unfreeze unfreeze

I opened my eyes, the world around me was still jammed. My stomach

hurt and my brain banged. I curled up on the floor thinking

'Why does it have to be me?"

I must have slept beacuase I dreamt I was stuck in a block of white ice.

I stood rigidly, until someone rushed up to me. I thought they were

going to cut me out so I started hammering on the glassy ice, yelling.

But they leapt into the air and sliced they claws through the ice,

through me. I saw a whirl of scarlet blood then awoke in a sweat.

"Right, Ignitus wants you, Creepy Boy Wonder," Calaknight said.

"Calaknight!"

"Yeess?"

"Malefor!" Missy screamed. She ran over to me and hugged me
hard. "I've been so worried!"

Calaknight started humming da da da da-da, daaaa and shook her

head.

"Do me a favour, love, I need to take him to the temple before Ignitus goes off on one," Calaknight sighed.

"He's staying with me," Missy snapped. "Malefor, I heard that that

young boy Jamex was found with a shattered body a few days ago,

they don't know if he's going to make it. It's not safe. But I just don't

know what could have happened because he's having side-affects; he's

all shivery and weak and he keeps being sick, so they say he can't have

fallen from a great height. He keeps burbling about Convexity, so

unless that's another side-affect a dragon must have actually

summoned it."

"I wonder who that is," Calaknight spat, glaring at me with her scarlet eyes.

"Indeed," said Missy, not understanding the sarcasm. "Convexity is dangerous, 'those who use it must not abuse it', it shows that Convexity is hard to control. I think the dragon who summoned it should be locked up."

My stomach churned. I didn't want to hurt her.

"Come on then, Mally," Missy said.

"Mally," Calaknight mocked. "Yeah, follow her, shove off. I've got
news for Ignitus."

I felt torn, wanted to go back with Missy, but I didn't want to hurt her.

I had to think of her.

"No Missy, I'm not going back. I was the one who attacked Jamex, I'm the summoner of Convexity."

Chapter 10
Dragon Time

"WHAT?"

Missy glared at me. It was the first time I'd ever seen her angry, I could

see the skin between her smooth scales flushing crimson in her anguish.

"I did it. He was bullying me," I said, but it sounded so babyish, I wasn't meek little Malefor anymore. I was a wicked dragon who had put a dragon's life in danger.

"Oh yes, so it gives you the write to damn near kill him?!" Missy shouted.

"Look, I know the little git has nearly killed someone, but you're missing an important point, just how the heck did he summon convexity? Or has that slipped your mind?"

"No, I know well. But that kid is nearly dead! You haven't seen him, he's worse than ever," Missy hissed.

"Not only has this wonder boy kid of yours summoned Convexity, but he's summoned fire too, so doesn't that give you some indicatian that your son is different," Calaknight sighed, scraping her milky-white claws on the shadowy earth.

"He's not my son," Missy spat spitefully.

My eyes clamped shut with the effort of keeping the tears inside.

She had always said I was her son, even though everyone knew I

wasn't. Hot-headed, bad-tempered Malefor couldn't be the son of

sweet, kind, never-angry Missy.

But it turned out everyone had a angry side.

Even her.

"Get lost," she said.

I shivered, though my skin was scortching with the heat. My wings

drooped, my tight eyes relaxed and I collapsed onto the floor.

When I opened my eyes Missy was gone.

Calaknight was looking at me sympathetically, and genuin too.

"I'm sorry, Malefor, I didn't think anyone could do that to their child," she whispered.

"I'm not her child! Will you stop saying that!" I shouted.

I wished everything would just STOP!

I opened my eyes.

It had.

Again.

Wait, no, the world was moving, only very slowly. My vision was clouded

round the rim. I could just see Calaknight's every move, her paw slowly

about to touch my shoulder. I dodged out of her way just as it was an

inch away, but then the motion became normal and my vision flashed

clear.

"How did you do that?" Calaknight questioned urgently.

"I don't know! It's happened twice, only the first time everything slowed," I said.

"Right." Calaknight grabbed my shoulder and steered me away very firmly up the hill.

We arrived at the golden temple, only it was pearly gray in the

moonlight.

Calaknight grabbed me and shoved me into a musty room.

"You're staying here for a bit," she said.

Then she slammed the door shut.

I noticed the dusty bookshelf pinned on the wall, with faded old books

in its grasp.

I pulled out The Amazing Abbilities of a Dragon and flicked through

it. Reading certain passages I came across one oh-so-familiar one.

This abbility is one that very few dragons can summon. The abbility is

most useful in battle and in travelling unsafe surfaces. It allows, when

used corectly, the dragon to see things slowed down many a pace. It

could be confused with a trance, though you will notice that everything

will darken and the vision will cloud, then end suddenly if you find

yourself using this abbility. It is a greatly useful abbility that many wish

to yeild. As seeing each others actions slower, it allows the dragon to

see things almost before they happen.

I stared at the titel, it was definatly my abbility.

Chapter 11
Shadow

I stayed in the cupboard for a day too long. The dark shadow hung over

me making me feel like a skinny shrimp. I'd curled up in the corner of the

cupboard reading for three days, and I was sick of spiders. I wanted to

come out, but I didn't want to talk to the elders.

Then their was a knock at the door and Airess peeked her head inside.

"What do you want?" I said rudely.

"Oh theanks A bunch, Igneitus would liek too see you," Airess said.

"Well you can tell Ignitus to stick it."

"What is up wivth, you?!"

"How would you feel if the mother you'd had all your life just suddenly
told you to get lost?"

"I-I heard about sat, I...I sorry, but Igneitus still needs too see shyou."

"Must I?"

I clambered out of the corner, knocking an old hooked metal pole over

making it clatter deafeningly.

I sauntered into the first room with the emerald pool swirling away. I'd

named it Bad Vision Room. Ignitus turned to me.

"I know you must feel down in these...circumstances, but the show must go on, we request you train," Ignitus announced awkwardly, like he'd been rehearsing what he was going to say for the last ten minutes.

"Says who?" I said.

"We would appreaciate it," Ignitus said.

"Appreaciate it" I mocked. "Do me a favour."

Volteer edged close to Ignitus. I said something quieter than a whisper

but I still heard it.

"Anyone would think the fine boy was turning into a Fear Dragon, Ignitus."

I glared at him.

"Let me take him for training," Calaknight offered.

They stared at Calaknight, then turned to me. They seemed to think

that me and Calaknight had taken part in a Soul Swap.

She nudged me into the dojo where the dragon statue sat proudly.

Calaknight nodded and then the stone dragon gently sank into the

floor, then the honey-coloured ground closed above it.

"Right, just fight and do what you want. Test your fire breath, and if you
absolutely must use convexity for God's sake aim at the bloody target," Calaknight said, the she chortled.

"Can fight against dummies, then I can use my Dragon Time," I said smartly.

"Oh, you've got that freaking abbility now, have you? Well then Guy-Of-1000-and-1-Wonders, start smashing," Calaknight said, shaking her head.

I started smashing while Calaknight read an old olive book. I beat the

dummies until the crispy straw spurted out of them. I spouted gold-red

flame and destroyed targets. I whirled round and used Convexity and

accidently blasted through the wall.

"Right! What did I tell you?" Calaknight hissed, looking up from her book.

"To aim at the targets?"

"YES! So what possesed you to shoot Convexity out of your face into the WALL! Oh Cyril will be thrilled," Calaknight said sarcastically. "He'll give me another lecture about," she changed to a dull, droning voice, "being a responisible dwagon."

I cracked up for the first time since I'd came to the temple. Calaknight

slapped her forehead and order an extra-large amount of dummies to

stagger towards me, and all of them extra-big. I leapt up and kicked the

air, curled into and ball, summoning all of my power, then flexed out, as

a burst of smokey, sooty black energy surged from my body and burnt

the dummies into ash.

I landed to the floor with drifts of black smoke swirling off me.

"Wow! What was that!" I shouted joyfully.

Calaknight was astonished, mouth hanging open, eyes prised open

wide. She shouted to me.

"Shadow!"

Chapter 12
'It's something about the purple...'

I ran over to Calaknight.

"Really!?" I shouted.

"Yes, really. I'm the master of shadow, aren't I, I know a shadow fury when I see one, and that was as nearly Goddamn powerful as mine," said Calaknight. "So now you've mastered it in fury, try breathing it."

I focused, narrowing my gold eyes on the bright target. I spun round,

blew so hard it rasped my throat, then a bullet of black flame burst out

of my jaws and shattered the target into cinders.

"Wahoo!" I yelled triumphantly, punching the air.

"Nice one," Calaknight said. She stared at the door of the Bad Vision room. "I suppose we'd better inform them."

I just nodded and said nothing. We walked into the room, and

everyone was crouched round the emerald pool in a tight circle. Ignitus

was whispering.

"It's something about the purple..." he said quietly.

"Okaay, sorry to interupt your gossip but this guy has two new abbilities you need to be aware of. Number one, he gained Dragon Time a few days ago, Number two, he just gained shadow breath and his fury is nearly as strong as mine already," Calaknight announced.

I tried to speak but my throat was as dry as sand.

"Look, I have been researching the purple dragon and...and there is no record of any...but him...he's...he's the only one and it seems that, that the purple dragon is the special one, the one that can yeild every element and abbility," Ignitus said. "He's stronger than all of us, even now, we just don't know it."

I felt like my insides had knotted, that they were clamping tighter and

tighter until I couldn't breathe. My heart was punching my chest so hard

it hurt, my blood felt icy, like I had frozen water surging through my

veins.

"You, you mean I could be an elder?" the words blistered my lips, I didn't want to have this enormous responibility.

"No, Malefor...you're going to be much more..."

Chapter 13
Darkness is falling
The next weeks followed with long hard training, in which time I gained the elements earth and fear. I learnt how to use my Elemental attacks such as Comet Dash and Earth Pound. I was doing great in my training, I could just about beat Airess in battle, but Calaknight's melee and Volteer's speed were too much for me.
But then suddenly it all ended, other worrying things fell upon the guardians minds, even Calaknight couldn't joke around and play the fool.
"It is time, Guardians," Ignitus said hoarsly. "The Celestial Moons are nearly at an eclipse once again."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"It means that things become difficult," Calaknight said.
"When Celestial Moons come to an eclipse we go through a time called the Eternal Night, also known as the Everending Darkness. When a shadow falls over the land, and a few strange things start happening to dragons..." Terrador said, then exchanged glances with Ignitus.
"Like what?" I croaked.
"Dereams, Vissions, all sorts. Shyou may feind yourself taiking more reesks san unshuel," Airess said.
"Quite right, Airess," Cyril said. "The moons affect a creature's body in many ways."
"It's all to do with lunar waves," Volteer burbled. "Our bodies consist of 80% water so as the lunar energy contols such a large field of water such as the sea it shall also effect us in a simalar-"
"What he means is the moon affects us," said Calaknight, who'd caught hold of Volteers mouth to shut him up.
I watched out of the balcony, though it looked fairly ordinary, a misty orange sky deepening to rich crimson on the horison. But as it started to darken to shadowy purple I found myself nodding off into a rather strange dream...
