Traps confirmed to be compatible: Villains are not playable.

According to the latest HDRoom article, there is a new Trap slot in the next Portal.

Traps ARE compatible, as they can be used to power up vehicles of the same element, but the villains remain in the Trap, unable to be used.

Although, each villain DOES unlock a Skystone once placed in the game.


I am quite sad to hear this, but at least they didn't drop all support for them altogether. Surprised that they can actually be used for something special; They have never done this with any of the "gimmick" characters before.

Well that REALY SUCKS smilie ....i liked many of the Villians. Maybe if enough people ***** they will do a patch update to make them playable in some places...like the mini's have there spot in the Library.

Getting the traps was so painful and expensive that it is a bit sad to see that they won't really be enjoyable in the next game.

Good. I really didn't want playable villains. I'm happier with traps being repurposed like this for SuperChargers.

Completely expected. At least this also means Skystones is coming back, hopefully they keep expanding it so people that collected traps don't feel ripped off.

So I colleced a trap for every villain for... Skystones? Um, no. I bought them so that I coul play as the villains. I did NOT pay 6.99 plus tax for a Skystone.

I'm not really feeling this game as it is more of a racer/vehicle game than a Skylander game. I guess we shall see.

Ok. I will still play Trap Team even after this game is out so I don't care honestly. It's nice to see they have it. Besides it isn't like Trap Team is instantly unusable when this game comes out. Besides I wish people would wait till the game is out to rant. Same with STT's elemental zones.

I was expecting them to be fully supported with playable villains but seeing how they are truly focusing on the vehicles I'm not that surprised.

It will be fun to see how much they will influence them with the new powers.

Isn't that what Trap Team is for? Sheesh, I was not expecting this many people to be surprised by this decision. A lot of development time and energy would be needed to put the villains in this game and, judging by what I've been seein, the two main developers don't seem to want to cooperate all that much.

It's the Call of Duty formula for sure. The only question is when Beenox will get the go-ahead to develop a new Skylanders game. ;>.>

Regardless of the emotional side of not playing as villains in superchargers, I'm wondering about the rational side that lead to this decision. I mean, they have already created the villains, including them in the next installment would have just been like a copy-paste with a few technical improvements. So, this decision is not due to resources or time limit but rather like, I don't know, driving more attention towards the new gimmick?

It's driving more attention towards the new gimmick, and possibly to balance out the game instead of spending time with TFB's gimmick to make them not destroy it. Looking at the gameplay with the UI on, it seems they're back to ~100 damage being something powerful.

Eh, not that big of a deal for me. I can still go back and play as the villains in Trap Team anyway. Also, something worth pointing out is that they basically have nowhere to take the villains any farther, since they're already ultra powerful.

Oh what a surprise. This is EXACTLY what I predicted months and months ago.

I wonder why I didn't go out buying all the traps? Oh! Because it was the worst greedy cash grab from Activision yet. It was obvious from the way they treated Giants and Swappers that Traps would not get any real support.

Don't feel bitter about "wasting" money on the traps though. You bought them for Trap team. Never buy a product based on what might happen in the future. Judge things on the here and now only.

SO happy I never purchased more than 1 trap per element. What a waste.

See, I'm really tired of the excuse that developers have to radically cut content just to save on disc space so they can work on compatibility with older characters. If they were really worried about not being able to have the disc space to allow all past Skylanders, we wouldn't be dealing with so many series 3 and series 4 characters. Two editions of a single Skylander is more than enough.

I think it's less about cutting space and more focused on this game's gimmick. How can VV make this new vehicle thing "fun and enjoyable" if they have to waste time programming in playable villains?
