Please advise what my next purchase(s) should be for Skylanders Swap Force for my two children (7 and 8 years old)? I'd like to open up more content for them as well as just increase the enjoyment for them playing the game. Any help would be appropriated as I don't really know much about this game other than I thought I should get them 1 character from each element. Thank you.

I currently have these characters:

Wash Buckler (swap force) water
Blast Zone (swap force) fire
Ninja Stealth Elf (swap force) life
Cynder (giants) undead
Jet Vac (giants) air
Trigger Happy (S1) tech
Voodood (S1) magic
Dino Rang (S1) earth

you need more then just the 8 elements in swap force. you need the 8 abillitys as well.
Wash Buckler is Climb and Blast Zone is Rocket.
so any Swap Lander that is out currently other then Boom Jet would be a great choice

I would advise Magna Charge.
Spy Rise would not be a good choice either, and is out in some countries.

I would say Magna Charge or Hoot Loop
If you're looking for one that's not a swapper I'd say Countdown or Scorp

You're going to need swappers to unlock the special movement areas. Look at the symbol on the base. All of these come in 2 parts.

Grilla Drilla - Dig/shovel symbol
Rattle Shake or Fire Kraken - Bounce
Night Shift or Hoot Loop - teleport
Free Ranger - spin
Magna Charge - speed up

12/29 - Stink Bomb - stealth

^yea Spy Rise is out elsewhere, I need to stop assuming everyone is from the US lol
but yea, any Swapper other then Boom Jet or Spy Rise would be the best choice.
so the choices are:

Hoot Loop or Night Shift for Teleport
Magna Charge for Speed
Free Ranger for Spin
Fire Kraken or Rattle Shake for Bounce
Grilla Drilla for Dig (or Rubble Rouser if you live outside the US)
Stink Bomb for Stealth (again hes only out outside the US)

When shopping for your children, the best place to get information is from the children themselves. Of coarse you can't ask "which guy do you want" because I think the first words they learn are "I want! I want!." However, you can ask them what they enjoy most about the game, or watch them, see what they are good at and what they struggle with. I would recommend a figure that is actually swapable, those are the most fun since they make your existing figures new and shiny again too (you can swap tops and bottoms with your existing swapable figures.)

What is actually unlocked by new figures are challenges, and certain mini zones that are designed specifically for certain abilities. Here is a list of what they actually play like:

Bounce: these are jumping zones and challenges, my 4 year old struggles with jumping so these aren't fun for him. This would be Rattle Shake and Fire Kraken
Speed: These are what you would imagine for a race car on a track where they have to pick up objects and avoid obstructions. This would be Magna Charge (he's also a pretty fun character in game.)
Spin: These are challenges that resemble pin-ball. You have some control of your guy and throw him towards bumpers that break after being hit so many times, some more times than others. (he is also very fun in game, several forum-goers call him overpowered because of his abilities.)
Teleport, dig, stealth: I haven't done any of these yet, my time to play is very limited, but you could probably look on youtube to see what the challenges are like.

On a side note, since you have 2 children, make sure they know that for the elemental gates that say they need a swapforce skylander of 2 elements (earth and fire say) you can use 2 non-swap characters to unlock these gates (one earth and one fire.)

Teleport is where you must collect runes on platforms that collapse overtime. A bit glitchy and maybe too hard for your kids. Hoot Loop and Night Shift are Teleport.

Added teleport.

He isn't everywhere outside US.
Only some countries in Europe and not UK.

Dig: These are pretty fun, yet in later levels they can get pretty tricky and frustrating. I don't have kids (Im only 15 after all) but I think kids might not find this easy. Grilla Drilla is so far the only dig character out. (In the US at least)

The Best combo to access all the elements and movement abilities is:
Blast Zone (Fire Rocket)
Wash buckler (Water Climb)
Magna Charge (Tech Speed)
Free Ranger (Air Spin)
Rubble Rouser (Earth Dig)
Stink Bomb (Life Stealth)
Hoot Loop (Magic Teleport)
Rattle Shake (Undead Bounce)

If you get all those skylanders you should be able to access all elemental gates and all swap force ability zones, I'd ask them what their favourite skylander is that they don't have and get it for them.

Of the 15 swappers that my son has, Rattle Shake is by far his favorite. He is very good in the game and his Swap Zone challenges are pretty cool. Magna Charge and Nitro Magna Charge are also very good. I have never really understood players' obsessions with Free Ranger. That is one of the great parts of the game, though, that different players will like different characters. Good luck. I am sure that your children will enjoy whichever ones you decide on.

I recommend the following for each element:

Water: Wash Buckler

Fire: Blast Zone

Air: Legendary Free Ranger

Tech: Nitro Magna Charge AND Spy Rise

Undead: Night Shift AND Rattle Shake

Earth: Rubble Rouser

Life: Stink Bomb

Magic: Enchanted Hoot Loop

Nitro Magna Charge is in a Double Pack with Rattle Shake.

Having a 7 yr old boy i'll name his favs.

Anything that swaps, he loves the swapers the most.
His favs atm are:

Rattle Snake, nitro mag charge, popthorn, wash buckler and grilla drilla.

He also really wants jolly bumbleblast for some reason maybe cause it's xmas season?

Today scorp was a new fav but that's prob cause his grandmother gave him it early while they were out shopping (he wanted jolly but she didnt get him it cause she knows we got him it as a stocking stuffer, as mom and dad (me) are getting him also that day in our stockings. smilie

Now im trying to decide besides jolly what ones to give him. i have wave 1,2 and 3 sitting in my closet so far all he's gotten is a few swappers, scorp and the dark edition (which itself was an early early xmas gift which he knows). Luckily his birthday is in feb so whatever is leftover is his bday or gifts when he does good in school. Some wave 1 i have to return as my sister is law got him some, which is fine. smilie

Oh and your kid may find giants figures fun as they are giant!

My kids want every one and that is not happening, so try give them options while unlocking content as others have stated.
Also TRU has SSA figures buy one get one, if you want to let the kids pick random guys without trying to unlock anything.

Go get dune Bug, he is already become the most popular figure in my house. The kids fight over who gets to use him, and I think he may be almost as awesome as Magna Charge
