Looking for some advice on Skylanders. A 10 year old got burnt by a as...hole. He traded all Spyros Adventure. Ghost Roster the works legendarys also most of his Giants and poppys rtals other game etc, etc for less then 80.00. Now from my understanding he still has a clear Wham Shell and possibly some other chase variants, but their all out of box. What do you think a good offer would be for aanything out of box as far as variants. Any help would be great.

You could get.. ehh.. maybe $90 - $100 for him loose.
You should have sold the figures on eBay.

Either they think eBay is a major pain and didn't want to bother or their head has been stuck in the sand for the last 15 years.

I can imagine quite a few of them will be traded for nil and/or hit the garbage bin. Ive spoken with a few of parents and kids who dont think the figs retain any value.
One kid was trading in some at my friends gamestore, and was getting $2@. I picked a few higher dollar ones out and showed his mom the ebay listings. To be fair to my friend, no matter what the figure he always sells them loose for $4@, regular, retired, and varients alike. |

The cost decreases when it's out of the box? That's laughable.

A sealed, new toy tends to be more then a used open one...how much more is up to the market. |

How is that laughable? It's 100% true. New items always sell for more. Let's say I have a brand new car. It's limited edition, and I decide to sell it. More people will see that it's brand new and will bid. If someone else sells the same car, but he used it, there would be less interest because there could be possible damage, or it could be a possible fake. Same goes with all toys. If you have a brand new Glow in the Dark Flocked Metallic Blue Dune Bug, it will sell due to the condition. If you have a used one, you'll have less people interested because it might not work and / or it could be fake. Though, it's been proven that loose figures can sell better than packaged ones, especially prototypes. (Even though they never have packaging) Just look at my prototype Ninjini, I sold the darn thing for $500! I also sold a bunch of other prototypes to a guy for $550! You'll just have to see how the internet deems the value.

Ah, I understand now. I just really don't see how cardboard increases the cost.

Brand new items are usually guaranteed to be working and/or in good condition inside, while loose ones could have loose parts, damage, etc.

Problem is the glue doesn't hold worth a tinker's you-know-what on these boxes, meaning they're going to be opened by their own eventually anyway over time.

So, then what would be a fair price for a clear SSA variant that is still sealed in the packaging?? The clear ones on eBay are in the $300 range but I have a hard time believing that's a "fair" price, or the "going rate"... what would you guys say??

I think the $300 price is crazy mark-up for a figure that cost $15....that arn't even 5 years old. Most rare things take years...if not decades to reach that kind of price value increase.
For example ....Star Wars figures when i was a teenager cost about $10 bucks.....that was back in the '80's.. and there are some that have the several $100 bucks value on them now...but only a few are worth that much....because of there numbers, theres not many left is the reason why they sell for the $300 to $500. The Vinyl Caped Jawa is very hard to find now...not to mechin' Ben Kenobi with the Double Telescoping Saber is impossible to find....and if you do find one he's worth about $3000 bucks....yes i typed that right. Thats because he's SUPER MEGA RARE. Most of these figures where broken or burned...blown up...ect...ect...ect.. by kids. Ahhh toys...hello?...they played with them. So these idiots on Ebay wanting $300 bucks for a figure that there are close to OR over 5000 made...(and are still out there, mind you)...have completely lost there minds. |

Clear variants were the second rarest, with Silvers and Purples taking the first spot.
Even though I managed to find Clear Stealth Elf, to this day, I haven't seen any other chase figure. Call me lucky, but I also found 2 other Chase Variants in stores, the Rock variants, and scored numerous amazing deals online.

It all comes down to personal preference and financial situation. I would spend more on the clear variants than the gold or silver ones b/c I like the look of the clear ones better. I would spend more on a spyro variant than a drill sergeant one b/c my kids love spyro. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $100 for any opened/used/damaged packaging variant and $200 is my limit for any new one. Master Eon would have to be delivering it to my house and handing it me personally for me to spend more than $200 on a $15 toy that isn't getting opened...
