Washbucklers Parley Popper upgrade [CLOSED]

Does anyone know how to trigger this?

I've been upgrading all the characters and checking the upgrade to make sure I know how they work. When I tried this I couldn't figure out how to make it happen. The description says:

Popping bubbles with sword attacks will create a bubble shield that reduces damage and explodes when attacked.

The only bubbles I have are the ones he shoots out of his gun that are filled with piranhas. I can't even remotely get close enough to pop those. I don't know what other bubbles they could mean.

Any help would be appreciated.

they mean the enemies in the bubbles, you have to break these.....

not the bubbles you shoot
