In Giants, if you replay a level to get something you missed (soul gem, story scroll, whatever) you could leave the level at any point and still have it saved that you found that item. Does Swap Force work this way? I've been going back looking for things I missed, but the levels are so long (which is good!) that I haven't had the heart to test it by leaving the level. If it still works that way, how exactly do the checkpoints work? I mean, it's not the sort of game where if you die it sends you back to the checkpoint. Do you go back there if you restart the level once you've past that point?

From what I understand, if you get the checkpoint for a level, you are able to load the checkpoint after turning off the console or going back to Woodburrow. If you load a different level, you lose the checkpoint. You must complete a level to get the Stars, but you don't need to re-collect stuff you found in the level if you exited it before the end. For exemple, if the only thing missing in a level is a Bonus Mission to get the third star, you can get the mission and exit the level to play it. But if you exit, you don't get the third star.
