Figure for Target UFO Hat [CLOSED]

Posted this a while back in another thread, thought I'd follow it up with some pictures

Quote:
i ordered two little plastic toy story alien figures last week and intend to affix the rfid chip from the pre-order card between the base of the figure and a piece of blue plexi glass. Hopefully before i get time to do that i run into something better than the toy story alien figures to use though, because i'm not big fan of crossing disney into skylanders, but it was the best/cheapest thing i could find that fit the ufo hat theme.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Disney...251346780779%26

It ended up working even better than i planned because the seller told me the base of the figure was solid plastic, but as you can see in the below pictures it is actually hollow and the size of the base fits the rfid chip perfectly. I haven't got the plexi glass put on the bottom yet since i think i'm going to re-order a clear blue sheet instead of opaque like i bought so it matches the real figures better. Also I still plan to paint his skin a darker shade of green and give his uniform a black-ish color scheme to more closely match the in game "figure" and paint his base to look like the base of the other magic items.

Yeah, i'm not super happy with the toy story alien instead of a UFO either, but you try finding a cheap small UFO let alone one that looks anything like the one in game... i couldn't smilie

I previously thought it would be neat to hook up with someone who has access to a 3D printer...

That is a pretty neat idea, but as the card is a single use item I don't think I would have gone that far!
I just put mine back in the box the game came from and left it at that.

Great news on the way the base fits though, almost like it was designed for it.

Was it hard extracting the chip from the card? Looks like it got a little messy...

Oh, yes it can be used on MANY games, but once used it doesn't do anything new is what I meant.

I don't think I would feel the need to house it in a figure.

You could probably make one pretty easy with some sculpty clay. it's pretty cheap and would work just fine.

Similar to the Volcanic Vault.
I'd love to have an official-looking figure to house one in. smilie

I love to model with clay! I even made a few fan Skylanders, albeit they look like crap.

I might try this.

i actually have spare clay from another project and that thought had crossed my mind, but i didn't want to have to worry about it breaking if one of my kids dropped it. I could sculpt it from clay then make mold and cast it as well since i also have spare stuff for that too, but i thought that would be way too much work and use of costly chemicals when i only plan to make two of these "figures".

for anyone who attempts to make one from sculpting clay I'd recommend using the bottom clear hemisphere from one of those little plastic shells that you get stuff in from the crappy vending machines for use as the dome of the UFO. When i was thinking about sculpting one myself, that is what i was planning to do, but as i said i feared that method wouldn't survive my 2 year old.

I remember rumors saying that the UFO Hat could be found in the game (one of the end levels IIRC), for people that didn't pre-order/get the card.
I'm guessing this was all false?

Well has anyone finished the game and found all the hats yet? If I would have bought the game on opening day I'd probably be that far by now...

Even the game suggests that there is a mystery around the hat. I'm fairly convinced that this is just an item unlockable, afaik we seem to have no way to enter a web code on this game.

Officially, no one could 100% complete the game, yet. There are bonus levels that can only be opened with Swap Force characters that haven't been released, yet.

Totally worth putting in a figure if future games support it (and the vault is still supported, so I don't see any reason that the card wouldn't be).

This is cool, but what's the point? Once you've put the card on there once, it's unlocked. You don't have to have the chip on the portal constantly to use it...

Couldn't the same be said for any of the adventure pack figures that unlock stages? Would you rather they just sell you piece of cardboard with an RFID chip in it for those too?

We have our skylander collection stored nicely and when my daughter takes them out to physically play with them (most times not in the actual game) i don't like seeing her chuck the card off to the side because it cant be played with. IMHO a "card" has no place in our skylander collection... hence my desire to make a figure out of it.

Funny... In the store today I saw R2D2 and Darth Vader candy dispensers, about this size, and doing THIS is the first thing I thought of, especially R2D2. smilie Almost took a picture to share here.

Those are magic items as well. They serve more than just unlocking stages.

I agree with FloppyKing....having a real toy not a card is a lot better for those of us that like to display our collection. The battle packs for example....would you rather the just put the RFID chips in little round disks with the Skylander logo on it? ....I for one prefer the figures(the Vault, the Cannons, the Catapult...ect.) I was going to do something...but i can't aford it right now, have to wait till the end of the month when i got the extra funds to buy the materials.(get paid every 2 weeks....3 this month ...woo hoo smilie lol)

Just to chime in again on this. I ordered one of the alien figures and fitted the RFID in his base. It came out pretty good - I re-glued the bottom cover on, and wrote 'UFO HAT' on the bottom so i remember why there's the Toy Story alien in with the Skylanders. So I have two figures with the chip -McDonalds Kaos and the Toy Story alien ( I have 3 RFID chips). Pretty good idea you came up with - thanks again for the info. And my daughter prefers the figures over the cardboard Target card.

Have you never used a stage piece in the story mode of SG or SF? They serve as magic items. So they aren't useless

Didn't say they were useless... but how often do you actually "use" them? Their usefulness past unlocking the stage isn't worth the time to take them off the shelf.
