Ok. First of all, I love Pop Thorn. I really like his moves, and the overall character concept.
Especially the colors.
And, guess what? His Soul Gem make the disappear under a bluish metallic "shell".
Seriously, am I the only one who think that his Soul Gem makes him look horrible?

I was so angry when I purchased that! He looks awful, this is the first time I have ever considered restarting a character just so I don't have that upgrade.

I don't mind his soul gem ability. I have purchased that upgrade actually, I like the coloring.

If you don't like the Soul Gem ability, you don't have to purchase it.

Can someone post a pic? And what does the upgrade do for him? Just wondering.

Yeah, you are right Aura... But, to compleately upgrade that character I need tu buy it. Oh, well... I think I will just have to get used to his new colors.
And, it's not that I don't like the new color. I just preferred the old ones. They were perfect, for him.

it seems to me that a lot of the soul gems are armor. Rattle shake, blast zone, pop thorn, etc.

I usually end up caring more about figure looks, as in the past games, characters aren't very big on the screen anyway.

Actually, over all Popthorn is my surprise favorite character. I assumed he'd be like Hotdog (overly cute to appeal to kids, so much so that I end up hating him). But he's really quite neat.

I know, he's really fun. Well, at least, he looks fun.
Plus, I don't really care about looks too much.

I thought I was going to play as Starstrike and ignore Popthorn - been almost the other way round.
(In my defense, Starstrike has survivability issues on hard).

I'm not too big a fan of his soul gems recoloring either, I also didn't buy gnarly tree rexs final upgrade so I wouldn't get that lime green armor >.<

Since the topic is Pop Thorn here is a good character?

He is a good character, just this is about his coloring after his soul gem.

Really? I mean like... really?
Popthorn's change isn't really big at all - it's just a tad bigger with a metallic tint. Unlike TreeRex, whose upgrade looks awful. Or Terrafin, where the fin doesn't even look properly attached. There are WAY worse upgrades.

Pop Thorn is an epic character very very useful to Nightmare plays. You can run circles around bad guys and use your lock on missiles. Very helpful.

Not even a little. The metallic shade is pretty subtle, not something that changes the look of the character (like the armour for Tree Rex/Chill/Crusher/etc)

You guys have talked me into grabbing Pop Thorn tomorrow. I always say I'm going to buy 1-3 characters every time a new Skylanders comes out, then $150 later I have way more lol

How would you even know he looks terrible unless you bought it? I didn't know chill was going to look like crap after i bought one of her upgrades. i cant "unbuy" it. If we knew what it would look like, then we probably wouldnt have bought it.

Yes he does look horrible, it's hard to ignore at times, he just doesn't look that cute after it.

Best advice would be to copy your save to a thumb drive, get the upgrade, and if you don't like it copy the old save back over.

I haven't seen it yet, but it wouldn't be the first time I wanted to re-lock content that I have unlocked in a game. I distinctly remember playing Tekken 3 on the PS3 and spending a good amount of time unlocking the last two hidden characters, Gon (a little dino) and Dr. Boskonovich (a guy that spends most of his time lying down). They completely ruined the main game, as they would both frequently come up in the the opponent rotation - and they both were really crappy to play against. It wasn't fun because you had to use low hitting gimmicks to beat them. Unfortunately I would have to delete my ENTIRE save file with everything else unlocked to put them back in their place.

Ok, it's not that I haute the new colors. It's just that his old ones (yellow belly, light blue body and blue spikes) matched him more. And the new coloration after the Soul Gem actually covers these colors with a weird metallic tint. And make them less beautiful.
I honestly don't dislike that much Tree Rex armor.
One thing I think they should add in the next game is the possibility to keep the initial look of your Skylander even with all his upgrades purchased.
It would be cool.

Yeah, because then they would look hideous. some people have enough skill to not rely on a single upgrade to get by the game.

I also skipped his soul gem I don't like the goggles and it's not like his soul gem is useful anymore

Well, to be honest, at first I was one of the many who said that Rattle Shake would have been better as an Earth character, because of the look. I said "they could have at least colored him purple!".
But then I start to get used to his look, and he grown a lot on me.
And then came his Soul Gem.
Seriously VV and AV, are you kidding me?
But, as I already said, at least his skin turn yellow again, after a while.
Pop Thorn ALWAYS stays the same.
But I'm starting to get used to his new look...

You should always get the adventure packs – if only for the additional levels to play through.

I am converted, I did not like Pop Thorn initially but he was first one I got due to being in an adventure pack.
Now he is fully upgraded he is great. Quick and powerfull attacks. He is quite a good skylander even with his metalic soul gem.
I have been proved wrong, Pop Thorn is cool.

Just fully upgraded Rattle Shake.
I must admit that his Soul Gem make him looks cool, but the brown of his jacket matched better with the yellow, than with the purple.
Oh, well. Still a better look than Pop Thorn's (after his Soul Gem).

I'm not too much of a fan how the soul gem of some of the skylanders change the coloring so much that it doesn't match the figure anymore. It feels more disconnected that way. Rattle Shake being purple, Rubble Rouser being obsidian black, Dune Bug with the Gold. And a little off topic but I hate that floating sword dance thing with Stealth Elf, they never stop! I wish you could put them away! But at least her figure matches what she will eventually become with the soul gem.

Yeah, seeing all of this makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. I wish there was some way to turn off the fact that some upgrades change the appearance. I mean it's cool sometimes, like when Chop-Chop gets a new sword or something, but others, like Pop Thorn, I wish I could revert them without totally resetting the character. For example, when I used to play World of Warcraft a few years ago, you'd put some work into customizing your character, only to have some kinds of helmets totally hide their face, so the game gave you the option of hiding the helmet, but still giving you the armor bonus if you had it equipped. Why can't Skylanders have that too?

^This. I hated having to buy the hideous armor for Chill, it's prevented me from upgrading either of the Lightcores because I hate it so much (I mean what were they thinking with that helmet) Because of the Lost Islands glitch my Pop Thorn reset and I haven't repurchased the upgrade (problem solved!). I'm currently playing with Rattle Shake and I plan to avoid both of his Soul-Gems.
