We have the Wii version of SF, however, given the serious issues with it, I'm considering picking up a copy of the game for one of the other platforms as they don't seem to be reporting this freezing issue. The portal appears to me to simply be a USB interface with no real software in it at all. Does anyone know for sure if the portal will work on another console? Or am I going to have to pick up a second copy of the game as well as another portal?

It may work (but may not). With the other game the portals where interchangeable with the exception of the Xbox 360 (the Xbox 360 portal will not work with any other system, and any other portal will not work with the 360). This was because of some rule that Microsoft has about how USB things have to work with the Xbox 360. But all others where interchangeable. (tho if you ask Activision they always say that only the portal made for that system is guaranteed to work).

Also you can't buy the game with out the portal (well in less you buy it off ebay or something) They only sell the starter pack.

I believe that the PS3, Wii, and Wii-U versions share compatibility between their portals.

Just to note, old Spyro's Adventure and Giants portals are incompatible with Swap Force.

swapforce 3ds portal has no usb port. but wii/ps3 portals should be inter changeable. no idea bout the wii-u portal
