Portal Master Rank...What is it good for...? [CLOSED]

...Absolutely nothin....

So yeah I thought your Portal Master was tied to your player i.d. on your system not the save file. I saw a video of a guy playing on hard that got to rank 16 I think. Then he started a Nightmare game file and by the time he unlocked his rank it was level 6. So what gives? How is that global across multiple save files? Did I miss something?

Actually It unlocks new items in the shop and more pedestals in the HUB...

Yeah that kinda sucks though If it's tied to your save file rather than your Xbox Live account ID

I wish the guys who made this game never added new features involving getting stars to measure our ranks. I kinda liked how it was done from the first and second game. I mean, it's too much for me to handle and is don't think I'll ever reach up to Rank 80 or higher.

I wish more of the data was getting saved to the Skylander itself, but I am SO HAPPY to not have to do 40 heroics across all these characters again. I'm happy to just be able to go into survival mode and compete with friends for high scores rather than spend the next 2 months doing bizarre heroics.

And yes, the portal master rank just allows you to get more items and special maps, and occasionally opens up a new pedestal to put a treasure on for some stat boosts.

I don't know why people think this is that different from the previous games, though, I mean you literally had to have one of EVERY new orange base character in Giants to open up all the heroics to be able to even get the full stat benefit. In Swap Force not being able to get to level 80 would just mean, what, missing one hat?

I know what the P.M.R. does while in the game but it sounded like it was global since it was said that it was associated with your gamer tag and not the save file or Skylander itself.

Between 8:14 and 9:00 Mr. Bala explains P.M.R. The reason I'm kind of bummed about this is that if it was global I was going to play all three difficulties and have a butt load of stars for Nightmare. It had the since of rewarding me for all that time spent. Now there's no real reason to play the other difficulties and just go straight to Nightmare.../sad panda.

Nightmare Mode does the same thing in Giants. If you want 100% you have to do everything again on Nightmare Mode.

Yeah I know that now but that's not what was sold...that's what I'm slighted on.

That sucks. I'm still playing on my 360, not beat yet, but I'm currently at Rank 8 there. I'll need to start all over on my Wii U, which I'm fine with, but I don't want to have to reach Rank 80 on my Wii U THRICE. smilie I hope they cut that nonsense, I hated wasting my hard-earned gold so much (approx 120k per file) to unlock everything in Giants!

It'll be good for upgrading everyone, but still! What the heck, Vicarious Visions? We're in 2013!

Ugh, and then starting it again next game will stick out like a sore thumb... Can we all agree that will suck? It's supposed to be like your rank and the game even recognises your user name and yet it's something stored in the game that isn't really integrated into your account. That will just be awkward.

Are you guys saying that you can't switch the difficulty to nightmare using the same save file once you've beaten the game?

You don't need to start a new game to unlock all. When you finish the game and unlock Nightmare, you can change the difficulty to Nightmare in your completed game, then redo the levels but without starting from zero to get the Volcano Hat (which unlock when you do all levels on Nightmare if I'm correct) and you can also do the Accolades that require to complete certain level and challenges on Nightmare difficulty.

That's good to hear, newkill. I thought it would let me because, unlike Giants, you can see "nightmare" right in the options screen, it's simply marked as locked. I was thinking that it would just unlock.

One thing about higher difficulties in this game is that I am pretty sure that you get higher scores on challenges when on higher difficulties. I have played the game entirely on hard mode and my challenge scores are significantly higher than any of my friends.
