I dont have the game yet (Europe ) but I heard from many users that there is no ownership option anymore. But how will the game count my Skylanders into my Collection?

It counts any skylander you put on your portal.

Do you still need to take ownership for older characters in your collection like in Giants?

The ownership option is still present. It is there in the "Manage" section only when the ownership of the toy has been taken already in a SWAP Force game. It looks like if the toy has been used in another skylander game, SWAP force doesn't consider it as ownership already taken.

What may be confusing is the "Ownership" option only appears if you don't own the figure. I only found this out after one of my Skylanders Swap Force characters wouldn't show up. He'd been factory registered for whatever reason.

Okay, can someone help me understand how Ownership works.
My only familiarity with the concept of Ownership comes from playing Disney Infinity. When I first put a character on the Portal, should I "take ownership?" Also, can multiple profiles "take ownership" on the same figure?

Swap Force, and Spyro's Adventure/Giants are treated as independant games for the sake of ownership. It'll remember if it's been in another Swap Force game, but anything relating to the first two games is irrelevant.
Ownership is something you can switch freely, once a figure has been registered with a game, it'll be listed on your collection, and ownership can be changed again.

I'm not too sure what the problem is... maybe its using the same console... I have two ps3 in my household. One is mine and one is my husband's. I wanted to test this "ownership" problem so I had most of my swap figures on mine so I put the game in my husband's console and played the first level of the game with a non-used character to get to the hub. I put on a used character and hit select, it allowed me to change ownership. So my guess is if you do two profiles on the same console, it may not change. But console to console, its fine

Its definately different than Giants or SSA. You can no longer just go in and change ownership once a character is scanned into your system on Swapforce. Quote:
Im not sure about other systems but on the Wii U the ownership option is not available once a character is scanned into your system on Swap Force. I had this problem trying to scan characters my son had already scanned on his profile, there was no ownership option and it wouldnt let me rescan them. I ended up having to delete save files and start over. So scanning across multiple profiles becomes a problem. However when you first get the game all of your characters you scan under one profile will scan in fine. The problem comes in when you try to do it across multiple profiles on the same system it usually screws up. Quote:
This is pretty much how it is. Different consoles can probably change ownership no problem because its looking at it as the first time it is scanned into that game. Im wondering what happens if you take a character already scanned into swapforce, then go into giants and redo ownership, then come back to swapforce? Does it then allow you to rescan them to another profile? |

This is a problem that has to do with Nintendo's Network ID.

Yikes -- somehow I'm getting more confused.
I have a Wii U. When my kids and I first sit down to play Swap Force, should we just plan on playing the game under my profile and only my profile? I have no problem with everyone using combined stats on characters. What about game saves, though. If I start the game under my profile, could my son go into his profile and start a new game save in case he wants to travel through the story on his own?

Call up Activision Support; we are truly winging it here. They've had almost two months of support data that they should have a realistic idea of what's happening. If you get the cold shoulder, ask to have a support incident and assigned support rep to follow through until you achieve satisfaction...and bring your story here.

Yeah, its confusing at first. Like i said thats for Wii U, but i think ive seen other systems are also having the same problem. Im not saying it will happen to you, everyones situation is different. For instance my system has three profiles, one of them protected (internet). Im not so sure that it happens to everyone. But if it does, unless somone has figured out a work around, you will have to delete the save files because that is the part that is remembering all the scans. Now if you make one profile, but everyone uses their own save file, you should be fine, it should give the community benefit to all those save files no problem. The problem only seems to be when you have several profiles and everyone trying to scan the same skylanders. It also depends on your kids and if they care or not. As far as the collection part of the game i can tell you now you will reach the Level 80 portal master cap no problem without scanning any skylanders. So the only thing i can think of that can be missed out on is the boost to Elemental that you get for putting so much of so many characters of one element. |

Right, and in reality...what does the Elemental aspect REALLY do for you? It helps you get to your Elemental quest quicker, but so would putting on a hat with a high elemental number.

I put all my old (and new guys) on my Wii U version and they showed up as part of my collection. I got portal master ranking credit for it, which is a big deal when you consider the treasure bonuses.
I put the same guys on my XB1 and they did NOT count towards my collection. I went into 1, changed ownership, and then it did count. Reaching lvl 80 isn't a guarantee either, it takes quite a bit of work and I liked the bonuses of the elements and portal master ranking early on. I only have so much time... Far as profiles, I didn't get into that at all so I don't know. |

Has anyone been able to SUCCESSFULLY register and SHOW UP IN YOUR SAVE FILE the SAME CHARACTER across MULTIPLE systems? This sounds a bit more involved than simply multiple profiles to me, as these two platforms are different. Just for kicks...have you tried taking ownership of them?

When you have ownership of the toy, the ownership option won't be present no, as you already own it. But creating a second profile on the same console will allow you to manually take ownership of the toy on that same console. I tried it on X360 and it worked fine. |

That's good to know. I guess the problem can't happen for as many profile you have I guess. I just wish they had just put the "check ownership" function they had in the previous games. Funny that the previous games HAD this function (but didn't need it) but this game needs it and doesn't have it. I also liked being in charge of which save files/profiles the ownership of my figure went to---under the new model, if I use figures on a friend's save file THEY AUTOMATICALLY get the ownership of it. Not cool.

I had them all on the 360, registered no problem. 25% did not register when i then placed them on the Xbox One. I had to take ownership of that 25%. With so many variants it was not fun figuring out which characters didnt sync.
