TRU is offering the "Special Edition Gill Grunt" to all Rewards R Us Members who spend $100 or more in Skylanders stuff from today until December 31st. According to the little blurb at the bottom:
"Offer Available while supplies last. Quantities limited; no rain checks. Limit one per household. No substitutions. Please present your Rewards R US membership card at the time of your Skylanders Swap Force purchases during the event period of 10/13-12/31/13 to qualify. Cumulative purchases of Skylanders Swap Force video games, figuers and video game accessories must be $100 or more before any applicable taxes and fees. Coupon will be distributed via email by 1/18/14 and expires on 1/31/14. (...)"

If you're not a member already, it appears that you can sign up and still get the figure, but you should probably call TRU for more infos.

Pretty sweet though that they're giving away a figure...now if only they could figure out some other way to distribute other special edition figures lol.

So of you don't buy $100 in the same transaction you have to spend $1000. cumulative!? They can stuff that.

I think that may have been a typo <.< either way i am safe. Even though i broke mine up into 3 transactions to make the most of the BOGO sale my largest purchase was $102

Shouldn't be hard to reach $100, If you buy the Starter $60 (20% off) and any 2 of the Adventure/Battle/ 3-Pack you got yourself a free Limited Gill Grunt.

Where do we find that offer? Was it in a flyer or an email? I bought over $200 this morning, but I did not know about that offer.

First off, You have to be a reward member to qualify. Then you should have gotten the email.

I did not get an email. I made sure to buy $100 in one transaction. I bought the game and the for Swappers. That made my total around $104.

I am waiting for Toys r Us to finish adding items I am up to $94 in my cart but need them to add zoo lou, roller brawl or count down so I can add those and be over $100, just to be sure. I want my Gill Grunt

OK, I am an idiot. The emails will not go out until the promotion ends at the end of the year. I went back to the store thinking they had them now. You have from today until 12/31 to make you $100 in purchases. Then in January 2014, they will email you a voucher to take to the store.

My Toys R Us had it listed in an in-store flyer, they acted like they were supposed to have them on-hand, then when they found out they didn't, they took down my name and number and said they would call when it came in for me to come pick up in store. Could have been employees not knowing whats going on? I didn't read the fine print in the ad she showed me when I asked about the Green Gill Grunt, just wanted to make sure it was the right Green Gill Grunt in the picture, which of course it was.

Found out while i was in the store...you don't get Special Edition Gill Grunt in the store...you get a voucher/coupon....saw it taped to the bottom of the portal display. Don't have a cell/smart phone or i would have taken a picture of it. Said something about getting it by Jan. ....im guessing it gets mailed to you.

Edit:Might take my camera back up there an take a pic of it tomarrow.

My Tru didnt give out vouchers or anything. ..they kept a written list of those whp spent 100. I gave my rewards number --same one---three separate transactions--(I had a couple different rewards to use but they said I didnt need to. They said they'd give me 3. We will see. I had manager write it on my receipt.

This is how it works. You go in spend 100 bucks, make sure you scan your rewards card. You do not get the character then. As said above the promotion runs to 12/31. They email you 1/18, then you have until 1/31 to go into the store and present your coupon to get your character, in store. From all of that i surmise that this is going to be a character that is being sold regularly (toysrus exclusive varient), but your getting a coupon to get it free. If you dont go in before they sell out of characters, or before your coupon expires your S.O.L.

Oh, and has anyone else noticed the Gill grunts base is orange?

It's just a series 2 Gill Grunt from Giants with a different color. I doubt it will be a true in-game variant, it's a "Special" fig.

It is a Giants chase variant. It will show up as Special in-game but NOT as an in-game variant like the Legendaries.

i'm going to take a stab that it's cumulative and they track it by your rewards card purchases because otherwise why would they give you such a long time? they probably factor in everyone is not going to spend 100 in one sitting, well most won't.

It is definitely cumulative.

The TRU I went to at midnight thought it was $100 at one purchase and that they should be giving them out at time of purchase. It was a mess there. I'm going for cumulative though, not too worried since we don't collect non-in-game variants. But if it's free I won't refuse.

One per household sucks. Split all my families orders onto 4 separate rewards as 4 ppl here collect skyanders and each want one of those. Guess i could try changing addresses on 3 of them

I seriously hope they get their email system figured out by the time these coupons are issued. I never received the coupon for the free 2nd figure with pre-order and others were getting emails regarding their pre-orders not being delivered on time. I just spent close the $300 at TRU and I will be pretty upset if I have to deal with TRU "customer service" again to try to resolve an issue.

I've called Rewards R Us and they said they are unable to change date so they have escalated it up to Corporate Guess Relations

I'm sure they will fix it for everyone. That's a great deal of backlash they do not want. Even though most will be re-breaking the $100 barrier once Wave 2 hits anyways, and you can only get one.

The purchase amounts on mine are vastly different! We made 2 purchases, one receipt was $114.71 but it only shows $66.90 on the web site and the other receipt is $153.80 and only shows as $145.10 on the rewards site...? Very odd.

Does anyone know if you qualify for the figure by purchasing online only? The closest TRU to me is over an hour away, and I don't have time to drive there.

How do you see this promo online? I logged into my rewards are us account and I see the 10% gift card section but nothing about this promo. My purchases aren't showing up yet either.. I can't find anything on the regular website either. Kesrael, are you seeing that under purchases or is there a skylander specific thing I should see.

The promo was mentioned in store and in the ad, i don't believe it's on the actual rewards page.

I've been talking with Corporate and it's like talking to a wall. All they can focus on is the Pre-Holiday promotion for 10% back and I have to keep pointing them to their ad about the gill grunt offer.

I'm in the same boat, my midnight opening purchases show up as 10/12, not 10/13 and the starter pack didn't get included.... that was the only reason i bought the game there. Looks like i'm going to be on the phone with their support people in the morning... WTF!!!!

I only bought the legendary stuff at Midnite. Thank good I bought everything else at 8AM and have well over $100.

I'll just return it and have them re-ring it up. Real pain but I will get my gill grunt

I just got off the phone with Sandy at 1(800)TOYSRUS and she was very helpful. She took down all my information and assured me not to worry about the 10/12/13 date showing up the Rewards R Us website. I suggest if any of you have worries about getting your Gill Grunt figure to call the number and refer to page 7 of the current ad. Ask them to set up a case number for you in which you can give to your local store upon release of the figure. It is exactly what I had to do to get my 2nd free figure for the pre-order since I never got the coupon emailed to me for that either.

Hmmm, perhaps there was a cosmic reason for why my family and I got cock-blocked by the State Police detouring a massive amount of traffic that was exiting the damned NASCAR race in Concord last Saturday after all.

Since I wasn't able to attend the midnight release as planned (thank you SO much unhelpful state troopers!!!), at least the silver lining is that I won't have to worry about this potential mess involving the 10-12 versus 10-13 date for the Gill Grunt promotion.

However, if I was in the shoes of the folks dealing with that, I fully agree with Gooch in post #46 here. Call TRU up, get a reference/case number, and lodge your complaint/concern, and make sure the phone representative records it. If the phone representative sounds ignorant, then hang up and call back to get a different representative. Repeat until you're satisfied that your message has been heard and recorded. And definitely get a hard copy of this week's TRU flier and stash it away in a file at home; you may need it in January if/when TRU staff gives you a hard time then.

I wonder how TRU plans to limit these special Gill Grunts to "one per household" when they are distributing the coupon/certificate by email? That type of limit/restriction is easy enough to implement using regular snail-mail ... but I'm perplexed as to how it can be enforced by email?

Because it will be one per account. I guess you can have multiple Rewards accounts, but you do have to enter your address and stuff when you create one so they can mail you normal coupons. I created a new account for myself, the old one was in my wife's email. I wouldn't want her to discard the coupon as spam, and I would be looking for it. Personally I will be happy if I just get one.

I will try to get one for each wave that comes out. my plan is to use the extras for trades for other figures i have a hard time finding though i will probably end up giving them away if i find eveything i want.
