Maybe 50 KB instead of 30? Countless times, I had a gif that was like 48 KM and I had to do a color dither. Maybe you could change it to 50 KB please?

Discussed many times. Apparently it was once changed from 20 to 30, So I don't really think Dark is willing to do it again.

As DummyZ said, this has been requested a ton of times. No luck has been had.
Just increasing it to 30. You'll just have to make do with what you have.

I know that feel, but by the looks of it we should be grateful for having the 30kb limit instead of the 20kb one...

I don't do usually get the problem where 30 is too little since I usually do still images.
But for this new avatar, I could get it to 48kb and still look at a nice quality, but since it has to be 30, I had to keep decreasing the color. Doesn't look too bad but it could've look better. I would like to see it increase as well, but I understand that even when it's increased, we'll like get some user asking for another increase. And another. And another. So on, so on.
I'll do what I can with what I have, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want to see an increase.

Not quite sure why people feel they need GIFs? I'm quite happy to have a site where there's such stringent limits on avatars and signatures. I've been to forums where people's avatars make their one word posts take up half a screen, and their signatures make me have to SCROLL.

m8, explaining why people want to use gifs in their avatar is like explaining the meaning of life, i for one love gif avatars but since i have to completely butcher any gif avatars i want to use i rarely end up using them

also on a side note, i hate it when people say that "huuuur it will cost money to have larger avatars"when most extremely small forums have a larger avatar kb limit and as you can tell by the april fools prank this year, dark still has all our previous avatars on the database, so if there was actually problems with having enough space for larger avatars then why is dark keeping all our old avatars on the database for no reason what so ever?

idk this is just me rambling at 2 am dont pay attention

Well I find cool gif avatars and make some and I occasionally get over 100KB ones and PunyPNG will not shrink it down enough. I made Shorty a Glow avatar and well the damned KB prevented usage of it. I hate making crap quality glow avatars/gif avatars. I don't want to touch the quality and PunyPNG will not work with the image itself. And thus I say make it at least beyond 100KB. It can still be 100 x 100 pixels Just make the KB limit a lot bigger than it should. Plus it's hard to find nice quality avatars under 30KB.

I do have to agree though, i'm pretty sure there's more complex sites out there that allow more KB for avatars.

Bandwidth.

bandwidth really shouldn't be an issue when we see MUCH smaller sites have a larger kb limit and that most people will most likely not use an avatar that's over 30 kbs
but hell, just give us a 50 kb limit and most gif avatars should be okay to use

also cool site for reducing image kb that i use for my butchered gif avatars

That doesn't make sense, really. Smaller sites have less users uploading avatars = less bandwidth use, and usually less users in general so = less bandwidth use. Bandwidth isn't storage space, it's the load on a server, larger avatars mean higher loads especially with more people loading pages.
