Think about it. If you want 4 players you'll have to have 4 skylanders. But the starter pack comes with 3. But if they made it 4 skylanders in the starter pack, they would have to raise the price. And if that price goes above 80 dollars, Acti and VV are going to get a pretty bad reputation of wanting to steal our money. Let me know if thats how you think!

In an Irate gamer video, one of the game developers said it was because of the small space of the levels and that with four players on screen it would be harder to fight enemies.

Didn't see the irategamer video--thanks for posting it.

Interesting comment---they've actually added content/location for Giants!

In my eyes, the only "fix" is to allow network gameplay. Split screen is tenuous enough, no way will anyone like a four way screen.

I am disappointed that some kind of a 4-player option doesn't exist in SSF. The fact that they want 'living room' play instead of online is commendable, but then defeated with a 2-player limitation. I know the older systems can only have so much on their screens at a time, and have limitations as to how far they can zoom out as a result. But given the abilities of the PS4 and XBox One, this is not a factor. Hopefully they'll implement 4-player in some form for the next game (or implement online play). Trying to keep the game identical (with the exception of graphics detail) across all platforms is a noble gesture, but a failing one. It's time to take full advantage of these systems!

They need bigger levels and 4 characters in the starter pack that would be nice :3

Over 2 players will be really rough.

I already have a hard time seeing anything in co op with my 2 whirlwinds (different paths both s2 with one being polar whirlwind)
Adding a third whirlwind will make the chaos an armageddon

No they need to keep it at 2 players

Note: This co op was in the arena challenges with a family member I wont mention

Not only that, the portal wouldn't be big enough to fit more than two Skylanders figures at the same time.

Honestly just make it 4 players with network play. Would work good there maybe.

There would need to be more open battle ground environments I think in conjunction with this to make it work, but definitely yes those feature sets would need to be a prerequisite.

To be honest even 3 player would rock and they wouldn't have to change anything about the starters.

You think paying over $80 is bad?

In Disney Infinity, in order to play with two players in all modes, you have to buy an extra triple pack. Goes up to $105.

Guys....The Portal reads each swapper half as 1 thing. That`s potentially 9 things it has to read, if you include a magic item. I don`t think it is the portal size, it`s the hardware capabilities.

The 3-Characters in the Starter Pack is no biggy. First off you are actually getting 4 for SF - Remember LC Hex?

By the time game 4 comes out, everyone and there mother would have at least 1 from any of the previous games and who's to say they will not hold off on releasing the last character of SF until game 4 comes out (Treat it like LC Hex and get it free - I hope they don't do that again)
That's how you get 4 Characters on release day.

As for capability: I agree with hardcoreignitor on this one. That might be too much that something would give (i.e. Lag time; Glitches; Video issues, etc.)

I remember playing Gauntlet on Nintendo 64 when playing 4 at a time, I preferred playing 2 at a time. I know times have changed and technology is better. Even Halo (Split into 4 screens) is not my cup of tea.

If they had made it four player I'd say the hardest thing on day one would have beed finding 3 more people to play with.

The portal is the same size as the old one, there is just no edge around it so there is a bit more space for figures. And it is much flatter (about half I'd say).
If you allow 4 players you are always limited. Think about it. The giants are quite big, the swappers are not so small either and there are plenty of items one can use (sidekicks, cannon etc.).

There is always chaos on the screen if there are more than 2 players but it should be people's choice. Maybe the fourth game will feature a 3 or 4 player mode. Could help if there is no Wii version next time.

Because little kids are most likely to have a Wii as opposed to an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.

Also, while I can understand why there wasn't four player co-op, I think they still could have implemented 2-4 player battle mode.
I often play the game with two friends, so we constantly have to swap controllers. This would've made more fun and user-friendly.
Imagine the different modes: Free for all, team battles, capture the flag, etc.

I think the only way they will be doing it 4 player is online. It would be pretty cramped on that portal with 4. The screen as well.

This is why I'm justifying the price of the Dark Edition. 6 figures which is roughly $72 in figures alone (2 Swap, 3 core, 1 LC). Then after a $10 off coupon, I'm getting the game for $90. Not counting the figures, I'm only paying about $18 for the game and portal.

And before you go off saying, the $10 coupon doesn't work at GameStop, I'm not talking about the Frito-Lay one, I'm talking about an actual GameStop $10 off coupon that you can get from Power-Up Reward points from having a GameStop Power-Up card.

The space issue would make sense. Particularly on the limited hardware of the Wii (the lead dev platform for SSA and Giants). Having space for four players, enough enemies to keep them busy and everything else would be quite a task. Also, since a big deal about the characters is their "personality", simply zooming out would make them smaller, therefore less of a personal connection to your avatar.

I distinctly remember this being true with Power Stone on the Dreamcast, I loved that series. The second game, while superior in many, many ways lost some of the personality in the chaotic four player battles since it had to stay zoomed out so far most of the time. The first game only allowed two, so unless you ran really far away from one another you could still see the fine details on the characters.

Also, keep in mind the need for the portal to have even more RFID tags to recognize at the same time consistently. This might have also been a technical issue. It has to recognize two figures and a magic item at the same time - four player would mean at least two more. This is still true with Swap Force, even with the swappers since it really isn't talking to the upper half indepently, the upper half simply connects directly to the lower half where the RFID is located. Use of a second portal might also cause interference.

I miss that game it was so good. I think the only way it would work is to have to be network play. If you want 4 figures you need to be on least 2 systems. Think skylanders now but 4-player. System 1 would focus on player 1-2 on that system, system 2 would focus on player 1 and 2 of that system (which would be player 3-4). OR if each player has there own screen and system they can play alone the game focuses on them but shows where the others are. Would need to double the enemies and make the worlds larger. Would take work but I think at some point it could happen. Maybe skylanders 4 or 5, once they abadon the wii completely (which we all know will happen at some point) they can focus on this.
