If there is to be a Skylanders 4. I think that Activision should give it at least a couple of years before releasing it as it is becoming a very expensive hobby. What do you think?

I don't think they should stop just because it would get too expensive for me. If it ever came to that, I would just have to skip out. No need for them to stop because I can't support it that year.

I say keep them coming, so long as they keep coming up with new Skylanders, new levels, and new ideas.

And then our Great Grandchildren will be happy playing with their Series 80 Skylanders, always wondering what the original characters were like.

I agree. I feel like, with our 80 and more characters, the new levels, all the new collectibles and all the hidden areas, Swap Force will keep us busy for a lot of time. And let VV/AV make an even better game.

Unless Swap Force bombs, I imagine we'll be seeing Skylanders 4 from Toys for Bob in Fall 2014.

Waiting only hurts Activision; the longer new figures are off store shelves, the harder it'll be to get kids back into the habit of buying them. And they can't sell new figures without a new game.

Nope - no way. I want (if anything) MORE games, not less.

And it's only expensive if you feel the need to collect each and every character. You can always just get the starter set and play with your old figures.

Personally I want more games and more places to take my current figures.

I'm not so sure if I could continue playing anymore Skylanders games, not while the life of my wallet is at stake. On the other hand, if the fourth game is anywhere way more awesome than the third, surely I could try and resist.

I think they mentioned already before that Skylanders was going to become a new yearly franchise. And it makes sense considering the sweet cash that it rakes in every year.

I think that rather than make a ton of new figures, a nice alternative would be to make existing characters (as well as new releases) worth it in the long run. Disney plans on making Infinity games backwards compatible..why can't we do that with Skylanders? And if not, why not make older characters much stronger or at least more balanced/equal with new releases so that regardless of where you jump into the games, you're on an equal playing field.

I think making a smaller release of figures, but worth more bang for the buck next time would be a smart business move. Make the customers happy, and they'll give you the world.

I would say a couple of years is good. Its hard to keep up with the figures. Plus it gives us time to savor the figures instead of rushing to the next game

Disney plans on making Infinity games backwards compatible..why can't we do that with Skylanders?

Because Disney made a horrible buggy mess, that required a day-1 patch on 360 and still wasn’t working properly on PS3 two days after release. DI allows patching, which comes with good stuff (being able to patch new figures into the old game) and bad stuff (messy programing being excused because you can fix it after the game has released).
This is terrible for the ‘mass market’ buyers (who should be Disney’s target market for Disney Infinity) who might not have their console hooked up to the internet – some parents with very young kids might not know how to connect to the net, or they might just not want their kids online… either way, those families won’t be able to use DI2 figures, and they are stuck with a buggy version of the game (and on PS3 it pretty much constantly stutters and crashes).

Conversely, Activision/TFB recognised that by selling a game aimed at younger kids, the game might end up in homes where the console isn’t connected, so they decided to make a rule that the game wouldn’t get download patches and the game would have to be bug free before shipping.
That means that everyone gets the same version of the game, and you don’t end up with two families whose games have different capabilities (e.g. Family A can use Newlanders cause they have a patch, but family B can’t). That’s vital when you’re trying to sell those families toys – parents that know nothing about games or consoles need to feel confident about what the toys will/won’t do, or they won’t purchase them.

They'll lose a sizable percent of their revenue if you stop ;P
Anyway, I imagine the games will keep coming. Unlike a lot of users here, most of the target audience does not spend a ton on getting a complete collection. So while some bemoan their wallets, a good deal of folks (such as myself) don't buy that many.
My family's collection is around 25 for both games (huge triple pack sale helped), And I imagine it'll increase by 10-20 this game (that's if I get the Darkstater).
