Has anyone here got first hands-on analysis on the swappable & non-swappable blue-based figures? Do they run the same RFID tech that were on the green-based & orange-based figures? I hope for thorough answers & no BS...

They probably have two RFID chips one in the top half one in the bottom

Apparently they use some sort of "patent-pending" way of having the portal receive both chips and connect them.
Sorry if these aren't the detailed answers you're looking for, but nobody except the devs can properly answer your question until people get their hands on the new portal.

I would guess it will be around January before we find out what the new technology is. Activision probably won't say, so it will be up to the buyers who are willing to take it apart.

I'm pretty sure that it's a rfid chip in each the top and bottom. They needed a new portal because it will need to read from a possible 5 chips at once (Two swaplanders and a magic item)

That, and the first 2 portals will not work with magnetic activity around them. Magnets make the swappers stick, so they needed a new portal that could handle the magnets.

Now that Swap Force is out, can someone here properly & thoroughly answer my question? Obviously, the top half of the Swappable Skylanders does NOT have an RFID chip inside, but it does affect the bottom half, which does have the RFID chip...

i think the top half doesnt have an rfid chip, but has a memory chip. so when the top connects to the bottom it makes a single figure data. but other than that, same tech as regular skylanders. you can pull the data off them using the same protocols the previous editors have used and original portals (im pretty sure anyway) we just have to figure out the data format. i highly doubt activision changed their encryption scheme.

This is pretty much how I figured it worked, too.

I know there us some kind of, uh, I'm going to call it a dot since I don't know what it is, on both the top and bottom. They have to be lined up or it doesn't work. That's why there are two magnets on each piece, two make sure they align properly. If you put a swapper on the portal and then twist the top the portal acts like you took the figure off.

I'm confused as to how the game knows which swapper top is on which bottom. If you have Wash Buckler and Blast Zone on the portal, how does the portal know that it's not Wash Zone and Blast Buckler?

It definitely takes longer for the game to figure out what you have on the portal when it's a swapper. All I can say is that these things had better be some pretty solid tech! I like the swappers so far and I want them to always work properly - so far so good.
