I have had to change my preorder now 3 times, now it's going to cost me $ 260 and I have to get 3 versions of the starter pack:
-Dark Collectors Edition-Wii U with 5
-3DS version with Volcanic Eruptor, Free Ranger & Rattle Shake
-Regular Edition-Either PS3 with Ninja Stealth Elf (Series 3), Wash Buckler (Swap Force), Blast Zone (Swap Force)

Then I'm going to have buy one of the double packs and have a dupe of Free Ranger or Rattle Shake so I can get the Nitro Magna Charge.

You are killing me Activision.

Believe me you are certainly not alone! I will be doing the same thing but with different consoles... Good thing my sister wants her own Rattle Shake.

I know, right? I mean, when I preordered for the Starter Pack, should I ask to change it to getting the Dark Edition?

I haven't pre-ordered yet, glad I haven't. On the fence about which pre-order to get, as $25 more for just two more (non-swappable) characters is a bit steep. Good thing it's only a bit before christmas.

I' just going to pre-order it when I go get Disney Infinity at GameStop.

What's this about the Dark Edition? Where's Nitro Magna Charge coming in?

He's in two double packs.
One with free ranger, one with rattle shake. I like Free Ranger better, but if possible, I might get Rattle Shake if L-Free Ranger comes in a double with L-Nightshift.

Dark starter pack has the main trio of console starters (but in a dark form)
and dark megaram spyro along with dark slobbertooth

And Nitro magne charge is in 2 double packs (1 for rattle shake and 1 for free ranger)

Of course not. They want more money...and they know that the hardcore collectors will always give in, no matter how ridiculous the situation is. Take Gnarly Tree Rex for example: People bought entire Wii systems just to get him, and then he was released as a single character. They'll probably end up doing the same thing with the dark variants, just you wait.

Yeah, but then, I find it more likely they won't release all the Darks in Single packs, just 1-3.

still not alone. you have about 3 months to make $100 since the dark starter is released on new years eve.

i suggest the 3ds version first. then the other for xmas.
i have about $225 right now. my goal is $255

The darkstarter is released with the game. 10/13/13. New Year's eve was just a placeholder.

As others have said, you don't have to buy three different versions and a double pack. I will be very happy if I get the standard starter pack, and then no extra skylanders, you just don't understand when you're buying too much. $260 dollars on one game! I may be getting the dark starter pack if it comes to the UK, but if I do, I probably won't be able to buy any more! You do not need too buy any version of the game,, but three versions of the same game is ridiculous.

It will be. Assuming that the Darkstarter is synonymous with the Collector's Edition, Coolshop (which leaked all those prototypes) has them.
Also, I'm probably going to buy just one version of the game, and maybe a few characters that appeal to me or will unlock stuff in-game. I might get the 3DS version on sale some time, if it's a really good game this time around.

Why would they give the details to an online retailer that not many people use, but not to large retailers? I personally think the Collector's Edition is a completely different pack to the Dark Edition - they have make such a big fuss over the Dark Edition, so why would they give the details to a online-only retailer who not many people use? And also, the Collector's Edition is showing up as £69.95 - only about £15 more than the average standard.You would normally get 2 standard characters for £15, so why would they sell a Collector's Edition at the normal price? It all seems a little strange to me...

Stores don't charge extra for variants. That's only eBay

It is almost certain not to be the same - Game have it up for £85, so I am intrigued to know what is in the Collector's Edition.

As for the double packs, I planning on getting only with Nitro Magna Charge and Rattle Shake. Then I'll go get Legendary Free Ranger at Toys 'R Us. I'll probably intend to get the new figures of much different colors instead of their original version.

If the double-packs are real. For one thing, only a couple of sites are listing them for pre-order and they aren't major retailers. Second, they don't have any boxed photos available. Why not? Nearly all of the Swap Force items listed for pre-order on launch day have boxed images now. Some leaked images even show boxed images for singles and LC's supposedly coming out on launch day.
I've seen the art for Nitro, it just isn't enough. Until more is discovered, I probably won't be pre-ordering.

As for the topic starter I can relate to the sheer amount of money spent on these figures. Even just starters. I bought three seperate starters for Giants including the Wii Bundle so yeah it kind of sucks. Probably just as frustrating as wanting those chase variants on e-bay. If your not collecting all the in-game variants like I am then I only have one piece of advice for you. Set a budget and stick to it.

I have to revise my plans. I didn't know about the double packs. Now I won't need to buy the 3DS starter pack. Rattle Shake is coming out in a single pack and I can get the Free Ranger / Nitro Magna Charge double pack. That works out perfectly since I have no desire to own Volcanic Eruptor and the 3DS version of the game isn't a must buy.

I intend to order off gamestop, but I do want to pick up one of those handy Target cards.
