While on a special mission, a team of Skylanders discovered a secret lair where Kaos was experimenting with a new discovery – Petrified Darkness – which he initially intended to use to stage a coup against Skylands. In their fight to stop Kaos, the lair exploded, releasing a cloud of pure Darkness. The Skylanders knew they couldn’t let it escape, so they absorbed this energy, transforming them into dark versions of themselves. Fortunately, Spyro learned to tame that darkness within him long ago. So with his help, these Skylanders now have also learned to control it – combining its power with their own to fight Kaos and the forces of evil.

They should make a backstroy for the other variants.Especialy legendarys.

For centuries, Skylanders have competed in gladiator-style events inside epic arenas of sport, where only the greatest of combatants become immortalized as magical, golden statues that stand and watch as guardians. These are the Legendary Skylanders. Whenever the world is in peril, special Portal Masters can bring theses statues to life and summon the Legendary Skylanders to defend Skylands against any evil that threatens it.

No, Gamestop listed it for all consoles except for XBO and PS4 which hasn't been confirmed whether or not they'll have the Dark Edition Starter Pack.

It's going to be really interesting to find out how they handle that with the swappable variants.

"Varients" don't have back storys, that is why it is frustrating when Legendary's and Dark Skylanders are labeled as so. xD

Here's my backstory:

Activision needed a way to sell more skylanders so they came up with a silly one liner story and repainted some skylanders. The rest is history.

- Zook and Whirlwind were having a staring contest against Medusa. They thought 2 against 1 would give them an advantage, but they were wrong.

- Eruptor has always wished to touch snow, but it always melted whenever he got close. One night, his friend Prism Break painted Eruptor in glue and poured flocking on him while he was asleep. Eruptor's allergies made him wake up with a sneeze, covering Prism break too.

- Instead of bronzing Hot Dog's baby collar, Mama Hot Dog bronzed Hot Dog instead. Oops.

Darkness makes your horn get bigger, just look at Spyro his turning into a Ram

Wow, didn't know that. They really could've done better though.
I'm still sticking to my theory that they're infant clones of various 'landers :P

I think Spyro must've used the spell on the others when they first went dark that Eon used to help him control himself when he first went Lights Out.
Anyone else agree.

what about kaos just used a minimizer on these skylanders

its simple as a piece of corn

I think of dark Spyro like dark sonic from sonic x it's a transformation that only happens in a extreme state of rage

i mean, its Always kaos does this kaos does that or the skylanders are too foolish, with makes me feel down

My custom Variant Stories:

Sonic Boom, Zap, Wrecking Ball, Fright Rider, and the ither GitDs were in the bioluminescent cave of glowingness, where they where trapped for a month. When they came out, they were green and could glow in the Dark!

One day, Hot Dog decided to go back to his Home Volcano to see his family. He went there, but then he saw that a gang of ruthless trolls were attacking his parents! He threw the trolls into the mouth of the volcano, but one sneaky troll pulled him in too. After a monent of sadness for Hot Dogs family, he arose from the Volcano with Awesome Lava Powers! (And he turned yellow)
