Hey guys at target they are selling 1$ cards that serve as a magic item for swap force. (Chip inside)

Says it will unlock an exclusive upgrade

What do you guys thinking it could be?

Im gonna go on a limb here and guess its just a free pass for an upgrade.
if not, then maybe something similar to the volcanic vault. a recolor of an existing feature. (instead of the upgrade shooting blue sparks, it shoots red flames!)

It says that it unlocks in-game character upgrades. Pictures and discussions have taken place here, here, here and here in particular.

Currently, it comes up as errors on 3DS and Wii versions of Giants. Obviously, it'll work specifically with Swap Force, but so far we don't have any complete information on WHAT it does. If I had to guess, it'll probably give you like X amount of coins or completely upgrade a character. Maybe a bonus power, or a Wow Pow for characters? Could be anything really. It's worth noting that promotional stuff with figures like Red Drill Sarge also mentioned that they had "upgraded powers" or the like, and it was simply them being on level 5 with 2100 coins. To draw some similarities, that's what I'm kind of expecting it to do.

While I like to do the upgrading and leveling up myself I seriously hope it isn't a Target hat. What if it is the signature red t-shirt that the workers wear as a skin? I am not expecting much from it though.

We've never gotten a "skin" for Skylanders and I can't imagine having an upgrade unlocked for a single character. So we get gold, maybe a pvp arena (unlikely), a hat, a charm, or maybe some new piece of kit debuting in Swap Force.

Says in game upgrade so I highly don't think a hat would qualify

It would be cool if it can buy you any upgrade you want for every character
Heck it could just give us a full upgrade path for free once we picked

It could mean an actual Skylander's upgrade, or it could mean an "item" to UPGRADE the experience. It could be anything, really. Its very, very vague.
