Only for the Swap Force Skylanders, I can either take them out of the packaging or leave them in. Usually, I leave the figures inside just in case if I wish to return or exchange them.

you can put them on the portal and use them without opening.. so do that.. it will be the best for you...

If you want to swap a character you have to open.

The only ones I leave in the box are the specials that I never intend to play with like my red drill sergeant, and blue bash.
