The artwork appeared with series three terrafin, series three trigger happy, and some of the swappers.

Unless they change the way LC works, I don't see them offering any character in the LC line that has a S2/S3 since people obviously didn't buy any that fit that mold for SG.

They may go for an even split of 8 S2 and 8 S3, but that just seems silly to pigeon hole yourself as to which characters to repose. If they really liked two characters for let's say undead but they both would be series 2, why limit yourself with self imposed meaningless rules?

Well, I would have wanted the forgotten 8 to be the 8 Series 2, and Series 3 could have been -

Magic: Spyro
Earth: Terrafin
Water: Slam Bam
Fire: Ignitor
Tech: Drill Sergeant
Undead: Chop Chop
Air: Lightning Rod
Life: Zook

However, I think it will be this -

Series 2/3 -

Magic: Spyro, Voodood
Earth: Terrafin, Dino Rang
Water: Chill, Zap
Fire: Eruptor, Hot Dog
Tech: Trigger Happy, Sprocket
Undead: Ghost Roaster, Cynder

I hope it's that, because it means we at least get 4/8 forgotten 8, instead of Series 2 figures of Newlanders from Giants, which that list still has 3.

I sort of doubt we'll be seeing more Giants. For one thing, story (not that that really matters) says that those are the only eight, and for another, they seem to go with the mindset that new gimmicks sell, so going back to an old one doesn't seem to be in the picture.

Ironically, none of those guys were my favorites from their respective elements, but most of them are the strongest from their respective elements.

It wasn't. Everyone is just assuming it. Something I see as a possibility though still believe in the potential to have 2 S2 or S3 in one or more elements.
