I hate that you can't turn off the gamepad when playing games with the Wii remote. When playing Skylanders Giants with the Wii remote I see this stupid message "Player 2 press A to join" flashing constantly on the screen during the game. It does that because the Wii U sees the Gamepad and Wii remote. If I take my gamepad to the other end of the house (so it's out of range) and go back and turn on my Wii U it doesn't turn on the gamepad and things are then fine but it's stupid that you have to do it that way.

I think under the home button there is controller settings. If you select the gamepad there is an option to turn it off.

IIRC, there's an option when you first start the game to choose to use the gamepad or not.

I can turn the gamepad off through the menu but it's too late at that point, the system already saw it and the second player message still flashes during Skylanders Giants. The only way to get rid of the message is to not have the gamepad come on in the first place.

Also, that only turns off the display, it still drains the battery unless you let it sit on the charger all the time.
