This is my first time doing this and Im not one for making videos.
For this to work you need to make a copy of your game save on another drive(I used the cloud save on my xbox 360), and you need the elements that are on the totem pole for this to work(I had to create a new save since i used all the stages of the totem pole when i finished the game). If you only have the first 3 skylanders you can keep repeating the first stage of the totem pole by following the steps below.

The best way I did it was to go through the levels as fast as i could and never touched the totem pole with the elements on it, i stopped at creepy citadel and after it saved i went to my xbox settings and created a copy of my game onto my cloud saves. After that I played the game on my cloud save and just did the totem pole to collect money. I exit to the main menu of the game then went back to collect the next stage of the totem pole and so on. after I could not get anymore money from it, I go back to my xbox settings and recopied my hard drive save over the cloud save and repeated the process. I hope this helps anyone. smilie

Couldn't you just do this in a second save slot as oppose to moving your main save though?

I think it'd be easier to get all available slots to that same point and then reset the cloud save after. The purpose of replacing the cloud save is so it quickly resets to a point where the totem is available again.

you can have it on any of your save slots as long as you copy and use it on another drive so the main save's totem pole never gets used.

you can actually start it anytime. lets say you only have the first three, you can start the game until you get to the ruins and see the glowing totem pole. make a copy of that save first then take the money from the totem in the copied version.

You know what's simpler? Running the first level of the Lava Lakes Railway half a dozen times. You always come out with 1600-1800 gold per trip and any Skylander can be taken from start to completion (including the soul gem ability) for about 11k-12k. Are my wife and I the only ones to figure this out? Spend 15 minutes running the top floor and you'll have all the money a character will ever need.

Yea that too. I did something similar at the beginning of the kaos level. i run through the first part where there are all those diamonds and let it sit for a few seconds after to make sure it saves my money then replay the chapter again. i get about 800 coins in 2-3 minutes depending on how fast you beat some of those creatures.

12K?! for completing the whole level minus the boss fight?

No, I'm talking about the top level of Lava Lakes Railway, just the first part with the train and flipping the switches to move it. You make between 1600 and 1800 gold on every complete runthrough. If you put a new Skylander on the portal (fresh out of the pack, never upgraded), it'll only take a maximum of 11-12k gold to completely upgrade the character. Don't bother going any deeper if you're just doing it for money, the other two levels are pretty money poor. Hope that makes things clearer.

Gotcha now!

Yeah it the upgrade cost is like 11460 to get all the upgrades if you got the full 20% off.

I've just been re-playing the game in a 2nd save. It's more interesting to see all the levels again than to just do laps around the same place. Also, all the treasure chests and gifts return for loadsa money.

...So how much money does this actually give you each time you do it? Is it really worth the extra effort?

If i need money i usually play through the first part of The Lair of Kaos. as long as you keep picking the money over the food you can get a reasonable amount of money pretty fast. then just restart the level when you get to the part with the 2 lava kings and repeat as many times as you want.

Well for the last totem pole I think you need 6 skylanders but it gives you around 2000 and the one before gives around 1500.

I honestly find it easier just to use the treasure chest from Pirate Seas, talk to some random character and then repeat

With swapping back and forth on paths to make comparisons an fast source of money would be nice.this sounds nice but I have the PS3 version. Anything on that console you can do?

I've tried afk dragon flight but that doesn't net much before the screen freezes up
And the camp fire thing, but neither are as fast as Kaos runs but those get old.

While I understand the purpose of the thread, what I don't understand is how all of the time spent copying saves back and forth is less than just running a money rich level again and again (as I suggested earlier). Now, if there were a way to instantly get as much money as you'd need in one shot and be able to reset it, sure, I get that. But, seriously, get all the money from the totem pole, reset, get all the money from the totem pole, reset...there's not that much money in that pole, really. Factor in all the time for starting the game, shutting it down, etc., and you've most likely invested more time than just earning it outright. (shrug) Just my $0.02 and food for thought.

Well the time the console is rebooting and whatnot you can pick up around the house, start dinner and whatnot. While running the money levels you can't do anything but run the levels is my motivation for why something like this would be beneficial

Ok, gotcha. I didn't think of it that way as Skylanders is all we have in mind when my wife and I sit down to play for a while. For us, having to load and reload is just annoying when we've blocked out time to play.

You might be able to pull off the above mentioned 360 trick using a thumb drive or perhaps the Playstation+ cloud save service, but it all depends on whether the PS3 considers the save file "protected" or not. What I mean by this is there are certain saves that you can't transfer, back up, etc., unless you're moving all of your data from one system or hard drive to another (Uncharted 2 comes to mind--I got a new PS3 and lost my save due to this "wonderful" feature).

If you're wanting to get other things done, though, my method works just as well--just get up between runs to do those other things. Each run takes a max of 3-5 minutes once you're familiar with everything on the level, which would equate a full boot cycle on a PS3. Make a run, make a sandwich, make a run, start some laundry...(shrug). Hope you find the method that works best for you!

I can already do that. I also liked the idea of doing the saved game part so I wouldn't get burned out on doing the same levels or parts of levels again and again

That way when I have enough gold to switch from one path to another it'll be more of a fresh experience to make the comparisons with

Thanks for this money tip btw. I'm playing through the game again to get to that point. I have a lot of newer guys who missed out on the first trip its actually quite fun. Plus I'm yanking in 4 chests per level, so thats helping gold wise!

Im glad you like it. I just figured since most of us beat the game already and maybe want to try the other upgrade path or get new skylanders this would be a easy way to do it.
